  1. This is all very interesting. I've tried capping my FPS, both in the Pimax Play software and in the DCS settings. Both increase stutter. So, in DCS, I have the slider at max (300FPS). My monitor is at 120htz. When I run DCS in monitor mode I can barely see the most tiny evidence of micro-stutter. The FPS window shows FPS at 240-ish to 300. The frame-time graph at the bottom is almost 100% smooth (occasional tiny spikes). Message, yellow/green "CPU Bound, Rendering Thread".
  2. Thanks. Another issue I've discovered...after enabling the UVC, then disabling it, my desktop camera was completely gone from the system. I had to do a scan to re-find it. I hope the pass-through software for the Super will be in good shape. It would also be nice if the Pimax devs would fix existing software before dumping it and moving on to the new stuff.
  3. And then add headset software to the mix. And myriad utilities (NeckSafer, SimHaptic etc). And then when they're combined vs running on their own. It's a minefield. Having said that, DCS stutter seems to be ubiquitous.
  4. If my Pico4 was 'plug & play' on the ethernet cable I'd give it a go. I can't remember how it was with DCS. I do know I seriously considered going back to it after firing up the Crystal for the first time.
  5. Suck it and see. Soon as I reduce it to anything other than max (300) I get stutters. I think it uses a fair bit of CPU to do it.
  6. Oh, might be a clue...running in 2D, the FPS windows shows exclusively green and yellow "CPU Bound, Rendering Thread". In VR, exclusively red "CPU Bound, Main Thread". So, VR is hitting the CPU very hard. Is that a Pimax thing or is it the same regardless of headset brand?
  7. I enabled HAGS and did a test flight. At the margins I'm getting it's kind of hard to know if there's a real difference but I did get the feeling there were less micro-stutters, just the same micro-jerks (inconsequential, because I really have to look for them). I'm going to leave it enabled. FPS window, almost entirely red "CPU Bound, Main Thread". Previous test was with everything connected to running DCS excluded from Windows Defender. Can't say I saw a jot of difference with all that done. I'm of course wondering if HAGS will do better with a 5090. The more load that can be taken off the CPU the better, right? Plus the Crystal Super will almost certainly need the 5090's extra horse power. I'm still pointing my finger at your CPU. I'm clueless about AMD, broadly speaking, but can your mobo accommodate a 7800X3D?
  8. Jesus, and I thought doing it with the Pico4 was a PITA.
  9. They don't do themselves any favours with not showing stock. It's either "Pre-Order" or "Back-Order" and "Back-Order" sees your stuff either immediately shipped or goes into limbo while new stock is on the way. They don't send any emails to tell you which is which or when the limbo stuff is due, so unless you email them to ask (before or after you make an order) you're left hanging. I've bought close to 2000 Euros worth of gear from them over the last couple of years so I've not had any aggro getting refunds in a timely manner (cancelled a Flanker grip and a heli base & grip). Possibly they had ordered a restock to cover your order and got miffed when you cancelled it. They need to clearly show what's in stock and ready to go of course, that whole "Back-Order" thing is a PITA.
  10. When mapping this cockpit knob to Virpil Rotary Encoders it doesn't function correctly. All other knobs (so far) map correctly. I've tested it on multiple encoders that work correctly for other cockpit knobs, so it's definitely the plane's code that's bugged.
  11. Yes, BAR is enabled. DxDiag.txt
  12. Yes to those three, all disabled. One of the devs said a set pagefile isn't needed with 64GB of RAM. I'm on fast SSDs (Samsung "UFOs" according to UserBenchmark, lol). I should point out that, in general, the micro-stutter I see is either extremely low or seen only in specific places. When I'm on the deck of a carrier for instance, looking at the other planes from my cockpit produces noticeable micro-stutter. I consider that to be very odd.
  13. Sure. dcs.log It's simple logic though, going entirely from the FPS window's message of "CPU Bound".
  14. Got it working but it crashed the headset mid-game. The tick-box had unchecked itself in the process.
  15. Er...is the Crystal camera called "UVC" by Windows, by any chance?
  16. Ah, ok, thankyou. Unfortunately, however, it won't always stay toggled. It either un-ticks itself when the headset reboots, works until the next Pimax Play startup or entirely crashes the Pimax Play software. In general, flakey as fk. Just tried it again, had to reboot the PC to get Pimax Play to see the headset again.
  17. It's caused by the anal sphincter clenching so hard it disrupts blood pressure to the optic nerves.
  18. My FFBeast should be on its way soon and I have no intention of running it at max force. The advantage is I'll be able to run it at max Moza equivalent but without triggering overheat protection.
  19. The headset rebooted but the "Video Pass Through (Lab Mode)" check-box had un-ticked itself. The camera is all turned on in W11 Settings. Why is there a line below that one that says "Passthrough" (check-box is ticked but it's all greyed-out and can't be un-ticked), with a little note-link that says "Double-tap the HMD"? I don't understand why the one above supposedly needs to be checked too, or even what it's supposed to actually be for? A desk-top camera?
  20. Huh? The headset is working fine via the powered hub. I actually haven't tried re-activating the pass-through since I reinstalled the OS but from what I latterly learned, the top check-box is for an external camera? I'll give it a go anyway and see what happens.
  21. More often than not, re-checking the tick box leads to a headset reboot that kills it dead and only a PC reboot will bring the headset/Pimax Play back to life. Consequently I don't use it any more.
  22. I believe total elimination of micro-jerks/stuttering is impossible. Tweaks (with a very top-notch CPU) alleviate it but after weeks of that and reading/watching countless reports and videos it looks like DCS likes to spike one or more cores to 100% and that's where the problem appears to exist.
  23. Took possession of it in July 2023. I bought the Apache strap for it and some extra gasket layers and it's now comfortable as fk. The FOV is crap, I can see semi discs on all edges (horizontal and vertical) but once in the game I don't really notice that anymore. Binocular overlap isn't great, I never even noticed that in the Rift, G2 and Pico4. Image quality is top notch. Software...these days, pretty damn good. The double-tap camera pass-through almost never works though but the in-built OpenXR and Quadviews, flawless. No battery issues and I've had the same one in since I bought it. So, fire up Pimax Play. Center the unit with a controller. Fire up NSXR. Fire up DCS. Hit center button. Fly. If the Super performs as well I'll have no complaints. I figure I'll have to downscale that however but maybe the 5090 will alleviate it somewhat. Roll on January and a big dollop of Pimax QC Lottery luck. Lol.
  24. I fondly recall a conversation on the phone with a real human at Amazon UK support, who tried to insist my warranty claim had to be made directly to the manufacturer. Within a minute of me citing UK Trading Standards regulations she folded. The item was in my possession around seven months and it failed, sent it back for a full refund (after the convo with support). I've had numerous similar phone or email interactions with retailers over the years. Some genuinely don't understand the regulations but just as many are trying it on.
  25. Absolutely, but unfortunately a lot of his advice is based upon completely erroneous information. Plus no mention of the very decent discount (over $400) that Crystal owners can get if they put their pre-order in by Dec 31st. I did a video. Sure, I "don't come along very nicely" but I have no hidden motives. Shoot from the hip at clearly deserving spivs, hucksters and charlatans. If he was honest he wouldn't hide critical comments from his viewers, that's pretty basic ethical-101. Be transparent and take the rough with the smooth. But image-manipulation is standard with these 'influencers'.
