A few months back, I ordered 2 x 300Gb Seagate IDE drives (one for boot + apps, the other one to ghost entire first 300Gb drive to once a week, then disconnect it totally from power and IDE cables... just in case!). When the box arrived, it had an extra 74Gb 10krpm WD Raptor SATA drive it... it wasnt on the picking sheet, it wasnt on the order, and I didnt pay for it. I kept it for a couple of weeks to see if they noticed, but they didnt contact me. So, now its in my machine, with my pagefile and system TEMP directory sitting on it.... whoosh! :) Drive space... if you are doing video (which you are) you can NEVER have enough drive space... ever... (go for drives with 16Mb cache if you can, but choose Seagate first cos they have 5 year warranty!!)

X-45 here, but with a "slight" mod. I have a long term injury that flares up every now and then (big motorcycle crash 12 years ago, shattered my right thumb in 6 places, plus my wrist), and found that the return to centre spring was too hard, so much so that I had to put my hand in ice (no, the cold Ice, not 169th_Ice :) ) to stop the swelling. So, I took the black plate at the base of the stick and ripped it out totally, then gaffer taped the spring up. Bingo... zero return to centre force, no pain in my wrist/thumb anymore, and with the added advantage that minor flight trimming adjustments are done on the joystick rather than having to adjust the real trim settings. Next HOTAS will be a x-52, which has a much lighter force on the spring, but might remove that too....

I have a friend of mine who has LO:Gold, and was wondering: Is this compatible with LO:FC 1.1 servers? and What the situation is with regard to LO:Gold and the 1.11 patch that is due soon? Will there be a LO:Gold version of the patch, as well as patches for the LO:FC web and LO:FC CD versions?

Kuznetsov carrier + Kirov spotted west of my town

landing is easy, its the stopping thats tricky :) http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/su25/ "The Su-25UTG is the two-seater aircraft carrier variant fitted with an arrester hook under the tail. The Su-25UTG is deployed on the Russian Navy 50,000-ton aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov" -

Are helecopters harder to fly than jets??!!
zorlac replied to Mizzy's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
personally, i am looking forward to flying the helos more than anything else that is due in any future version. I love helos... yes, its gonna take some practise, but the results of the long hours training will be oh so worth it :) -
are you using the in-game "screen grab" or "capture screen" option? If so, it will grab the image at the size that you are playing it at.

Work is in progress on this, but as I am away from work (where the server is), I wont be able to get stuff done until next week at the earliest (unless I can convince the wife that this is "essential emergency maintenance for work related equipment"... :) )

Is it possible to ban a player from a server (not just kick)? If so, how do i do this? Is it a ban on the player name or the IP address? Where is this list held, and can it be undone at a later time? Thanks in advance for the help

glad i could help...

Nice vid (You need to disable that DiVX logo though when you create/export your AVIs) Video is mirrored here, if anyone wants a faster download: http://www.syn-ack.com/vvs504/25tsurprise_erdem.wmv

Is this all MP messages on/off? '"Noobie" joined the mission` 'Red "Noobie" killed Blue "Smacktard" spamming all his AIM-120s in one go` '"Smacktard" exited the mission` these messages are useful `"Noobie" landed <somewhere>` I can understand the removal of the "landing" messages, but i quite like knowing who is doing what to who in MP

4 mins! whoah! Obvious things to check: Set your page file so its minimum size is the same and your maximum. This prevents the pagefile growing and shrinking when windows thinks you require it (And it fragments your drive really really badly) Defrag the hard drive(s)... lots... Move your pagefile to another physical drive (not just another partition on the same drive as your boot partition) Move you TEMP location to another physical drive (as above). Run PageDefrag ( http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/PageDefrag.html ) to make sure your page file and system files are not fragmented (it defrags just before XP really starts, so there are no file locks stopping it). EDIT: Turn off any antivirus you have running, and see if that makes any difference in load times. That might help... maybe....

Its a "Tron" 27... or for the slightly older amongst us, anyone remember "Automan" ? Still look cool though :)

35Mbit SDH conection, have flooded the line with traffic (using netperf to a machine in our London office), and got 34Mbit UDP, and a throughput of 30-32Mbit for TCP (with the sliding window bumped right up)...line wasnt totally empty when i tested it, soI am happy with that.... its a company line, not residential, so if we dont get close to 35Mbit, i will be on the phone to our ISP to ask why :)
-
I run Dedmac on the server to rotate maps, so after 2 hours, the camera will be looking at the airport again... 24/7.... so i did set MaxFPS to something low, fiddled with the graphcs.cfg to make it 800x600 in a window, and it does appear to help with the general smoothness on the server machine (maybe its just that I *THINK* it should make it smoother, and therefore am fooled into thinking it is :) )
-
umm... not sure I follow you.... the server has 100Mbit NIC, sitting on a 35Mbit link, and is currently set to 10Mbit wthin Lockon, and is set for 21 player slots (1 taken up by the server account itself). What should the server bandwidth be set to in this situation? 100m/35m/10m/128k? (Wasnt aware of the scene setting being enforced on the client, have dropped that from high to medium now)
-
OK, was just checking (was already on 10M). Whats the difference between scenes high and medium? What doesnt get shown in medium settings?
-
On a Lomac server, in the "speed" section, is the bandwidth choice you enter there the maximum that any one client can connect at, or is it the total bandwidth that can be used for all the connect clients at the same time? eg 128k/128k - per client (so 10 clients would allow 1280/1280 bandwidth) or 128k/128k - total, shared amongst all players (10 players would give 12.8K each...ouch)

I was bored . . . have an Su25UB!
zorlac replied to britgliderpilot's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
mmmm... I spotted that too.... grrrrr :) /me goes home to overclock EVERYTHING.... -
thats because the server is (normally) running at ~100% CPU if you dont lock the frame rate... so its shoving polygons at the graphics card as fast as it can, *AND* doing all the game/server related stuff at the same time. If you get down to 25fps or less, then the server is heavily loaded... not because its chucking any more graphics around, just because its doing more "server" work in the background, leaving less time to check stuff at the screen. If you lock the FPS to something very low, that frees up a lot more time to do background stuff. Setting low FPS for the graphics on the *SERVER*( doesnt affect the rate at which it process the server stuff and returns the info to the clients... i would much rather it was spending CPU time on that, than updating a low res, low setting windowed version of Lomac that most of the time I never look at. (Hell, the 504 server is running on a weedy 1.7GHz Xeon with 1Gig of RAM and copes with 20 player OK most of the time... and it has a LOT of ground targets to look after as well as connected players).
-
Also: in config/graphics.cfg MaxFPS = 5; (why do you need 40-50+ FPS on a server? :) )
-
<comic-book-guy> Best tool ever :) </comic-book-guy> M$ Terminal Services wont work cos it views a "virtual" desktop, which wont show the lomac server you started on the real desktop (and under 2000/XP, it will log that local user out anyway when you connect from remote).
-
VVS504 server sees ~2Mbit upstream for approx 20 players.... upstream is the important bandwidth (its on a 35Mbit link, so 2Mbit is nothing in the grand scheme of things) Dedmac is also highly recommended, as is at least 1Gb of RAM (trying to find more all the time), turning off all non-essential services, setting lockon process affinity to a single CPU (if you have multiple CPUs or Cores). As for remote desktop administration, try VNC (free) or Sunbelt's Remote Admin (not free). If you have a lot of objects in your maps (ground vehicles for example), expect the server to eat memory a lot, and crash regularly...
