  1. Don't recall seeing anything in the release notes, but it sure seems to me the aircraft flies better than it did in earlier releases. To me it flies, well, just like a jet. Anyone else have an opinion?
  2. You have my attention! Could you perhaps point me/us to some resources that would remove the fog of war, I mean TARGET? So far I find it impenetrable.
  3. Tried several joysticks, ended up—thanks to my wife who supports my every vice—with HOTAS and two Thrustmaster Cougar MFD plus TrackIR and I'm very glad I (she) made the investment. Necessary? Not at all. Worth it? Absolutely. Found a tidy way to set things up (see http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=66927). I've been a pilot for 45 years including a stint in the Navy, and with 10,000+ hours and an ATP certificate can honestly say that I get as much enjoyment (if not as much transportation) from this sim as I do from real flying. Besides, who's going to throw you the keys to an A-10C and let you go play? I have a C-45H out at the airport, and and a friend that will let me fly his straight tail Bonanza any time I want if I'll put gas in it, and I fly many more A-10 hours than I do in them. All of which is not in any way to brag, but simply to suggest that there's a great deal of flying pleasure to be had for the price of this sim and some hardware, or about the same as a couple hours in the C-45 or about six in the Bonanza. Besides, there aren't any other aircraft that have a AN/GUA-8, very few that will let you fire a Maverick, and none you can rent or buy at your local airport. Off topic slightly, but I cranked up Flight Simulator X yesterday to fly the exceptional SuperBug F/A-18 using FTX terrain with XtremeEnviroment clouds...and was back on the A-10 within an hour. Used to think FSX was wonderful, but the Warthog is the new gold standard in my book.
  4. Have two kids and six grandkids. They'll bring tears of pleasure and tears of frustration. (A bit like DCS A-10C.) Best wishes to Mom, baby, and you.
  5. Went Whole Hog Added ejection seat and rescue signs
  6. Throttle Support My wife solved the throttle problem (how do I love thee [her] let me count the ways...) I was figuring and planning and testing and searching for hardware and she said brightly, "Why don't you put the throttle on top of the old Mac G5 tower that's out in the garage gathering dust? It's just about the right height, and it's all metal and aircraft looking." Yup. Exactly the right height and it's easy to slide back out of the way when not in use. Maybe I'll add a 'Rescue' arrow or some such to make it look less computer-like and more cockpit-like. Mine had a failed motherboard, no memory, and no drives...so basically junk. But the case is such a lovely piece of engineering I couldn't just throw it away. If you can find a similar gutted one it's probably worth only $25--less than the cost of the drawer slides, box, and hardware I'd contemplated.
  7. BZ Wow! Absolutely gorgeous airport diagrams, and beautifully laid out booklet. Especially appreciate the DH/MDA info. Without Center and Approach controllers a full-on IMC approach isn't really possible, but I've managed to fake it with your good data. I wonder if it would be possible to create a couple of approach plates? I gather the IRL freqs and other details don't match sim, but with real ones as a place to start.... I'd be happy to help any way I can, but your work is so professional I'm afraid all I'd do is ruin your efforts. Question: is the ILS range unusually short, on the order of only 10-15 miles only? Don't do as much instrument flying as I used to, but seems like the flags don't disappear until I'm way closer to the airport than I expect. Was towing gliders recently from CL35 over 30nm from home (KCRQ) and could pick up the ILS from there, for example. Don't see any other comments to that effect here, so maybe it's just me. Again, thanks for the great addition to DCS A-10 fun!
  8. Is there no 1.1.0.7 solution, then? My load times are painful. Or just wait for 1.1.0.8 and hope the problem is solved?
  9. This thread is like a script for a movie on entrepreneurship...or perhaps cloud source design! Can't wait to download the app, and I'd be happy to pay for it. Bravo zulu, sickdog.
  10. Flare to land, squat to pee. (oops, should have read the whole thread. Guess I wasn't the first Navy guy here.)
  11. Cheap ($20), quick (4 hours idea to fly) http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=66927
  12. Yup, baseplate let me get the holes more or less in the right place, but without a drill press or anything similar, my Black and Decker hand drill skills meant it only went on one way. Sighting through the holes helped eventually get it right. Chin up, guys, this setup is in our otherwise tidy home office and wife says she likes it, it can stay.
  13. 4 hours including shopping, building and paint drying. 2’ x 4’ particle board base—4" black ABS (cheap black plastic pipe) end cap bolted down, insert 4" x 14” pipe and screw in place, sand pipe lightly and paint. Attach joystick to unpainted removable 4" ABS plug (you need four new M4 X 16 or longer screws), insert...and now your joystick is between your legs where it belongs. ;-) One gripe: the removable plug I found (YMMV) has a recessed lip so there's a 1/16" gap between the ABS plug and the base of the joystick. If I can find thick 4" o-ring it will solve that problem. Only tricky part is properly drilling, counter-sinking, and aligning the holes in the particleboard base and the ABS removable plug. Next project is a retractable mount for the throttles, so they're down by my thigh where they belong, but can be slid back out of the way under the desk when I'm not flying. Some kind of modification to a prebuilt top mount drawer, I'm guessing.
  14. I'm happy to test too. Just received a belated Christmas gift, Thrustmaster MFDs. Might be interesting to compare them with iPad version.
  15. Biggest problem with jet jocks transitioning to props or, worse, a taildragger, always seems to be getting them to learn to use their feet (that and use less than 60% of throttle for idle). But I'm with Migo, its practically impossible to taxi with standard axis response. Had to dial mine waaaaaay down. 'Course 9 out of 10 times they aren't recognized, but that's a different thread.
  16. Yes, thank you. Solved the problem myself however, although I don't know how. Brief note for other's benefit. I've been using Safari on a Mac to read forums. Went to my PC and used Safari to do it from there, and everything worked fine. The Payment button produced a receipt with the beta forum link, as advertised. Except that I trashed the Mac's Safari cache and restarted the app I'd guess that was the issue, so I don't know what the difference was. Anyway, I'm in.
  17. Followed procedure to access Beta forums, to no avail. Double checked email are identical, logged out, logged in, etc. What's weird is Payment link from DCS takes me to >> Buy now << and not to a receipt page. Yet if I try manually activating account from rcvd email msg says account is already activated. Tried trashing cache, but that didn't solve the problem, and yes, I looked for it at the top of the English forum top level page. :wallbash:
  18. The real brevity codes are at http://tailspinstales.blogspot.com/2007/08/faclon-codes.html If you don't like them, well, Falcon 269
