News about release date or new movie?
Mike Cinch Perry replied to black-ninja2007's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
LoL, WOW, thats is a nice way of saying " Yea we tell our friends here in our country what is going on with the development, forget everyone else in the world. Hmm seems like they had the same idea when all the American Aircraft were made for the game, (wow 2 AC). I could see the talk around the dev meeting when Lock on was born...... "Hey why dont we make a sim with our planes in it and give them the upper hand with weapons that will shred us aircraft to bits. But we will give the other countries 2 aircraft to fly and give them several different weapons that will miss their target most of the time, Oh and forgot lets give the f-15 a radar that will not show an aircraft 15 miles off my 12." Thats my .10 cents, and with some of the Q&A going on around here, you would think that ED, and the beta testers would be a little more customer service like, rather than from what I have seen as nothing more than, and it seems like childish fighting (The "Mom he's touching me" syndrome). -
OK here is my thoughts, 1. How often do you see Civ Aircraft flying in a combat zone. 2. So one type of aircraft will make the sim more real? (is that the only civ aircraft around) 3. Why is it when a person gives his feelings he is given a week away from the messgae board. I'm starting to thinks the message boards are one sided. Just like the Sim. I guess that a person can not place his views for improvements for the sim. I just dont understand why one person can not voice is thoughts on the subject, I didnt see and rants or raves in Thumpers post, so where that came from I dont know guess its related to a time zone thing or something! Little History and Information in depth about"Vacuum Bombs" On December 27, 1999, Interfax reported Russian forces were using fuel-air explosive bombs in the fighting in Chechnya.(1) The use of fuel-air explosives (FAEs), popularly known in Russia as "vacuum bombs," represents a dangerous escalation in the Chechnya conflict--one with important humanitarian implications. FAEs are more powerful than conventional high-explosive munitions of comparable size, are more likely to kill and injure people in bunkers, shelters, and caves, and kill and injure in a particularly brutal manner over a wide area. In urban settings it is very difficult to limit the effect of this weapon to combatants, and the nature of FAE explosions makes it virtually impossible for civilians to take shelter from their destructive effect. According to one Russian military scientist writing for the Russian military magazine Voyennyye Znaniya (Military Knowledge), FAE weapons are effective against exposed personnel, combat equipment, fortified areas and individual defensive fortifications, clearing passages in minefields, clearing landing sites for helicopters, destroying communication centers, and neutralizing strongholds in house-to-house fighting in a city.(2) In addition, he stated that "fuel-air explosives are capable…of completely destroying in a given area vegetation and agricultural crops that have been planted." "In its destructive capability, it is comparable to low-yield nuclear munitions."(3) Used in large numbers, fuel-air explosives and other blast weapons can have enormous destructive effects. When multiple FAE warheads are exploded, the different blast waves reinforce each other, increasing their destructive power.(4) The effect of blast weapons is also compounded in buildings and other enclosed spaces, and is twelve to sixteen times more destructive than conventional high explosives against targets with large surface areas, such as frame buildings, bunkers, and vehicle shelters.(5) Because FAEs cover a wide area, they are prone to indiscriminate use, especially in or near populated areas. Since this weapon is very effective against personnel in fortifications, bunkers, and other buildings, Russian forces may be tempted to use them in towns and cities where Chechen fighters are dug in. In urban settings it will be impossible for the Russians military to limit the destructive effect of this weapon to combatants and very difficult for civilians to take shelter from the FAE's effect. So far, the Russian military has reportedly used FAE bombs against the Dagestani village of Tando, in August 1999,(6)and more recently in the southern mountains of Chechnya.(7) How FAEs Work A typical fuel air explosive device consists of a container of fuel and two separate explosive charges. After the munition is dropped or fired, the first explosive charge bursts open the container at a predetermined height and disperses the fuel in a cloud that mixes with atmospheric oxygen (the size of the cloud varies with the size of the munition). The cloud of fuel flows around objects and into structures. The second charge then detonates the cloud, creating a massive blast wave. (For a demonstration of a FAE explosion, see the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, China Lake, California, page at "http://www.nawcwpns.navy.mil/clmf/faeseq.html".) The blast wave destroys unreinforced buildings and equipment and kills and injures personnel. The antipersonnel effect of the blast wave is more severe in foxholes, on personnel with body armor, and in enclosed spaces such as caves, buildings, and bunkers. Fuel-air explosives were first developed, and used in Vietnam, by the United States. Soviet scientists, however, quickly developed their own FAE weapons, which were reportedly used against China in a 1969 border conflict and in Afghanistan. Since then research and development has continued and currently Russian forces field a wide array of third-generation FAE warheads. In addition to classic FAE munitions, Soviet scientists have also developed other "enhanced-blast" munitions, particularly reactive-surround and slurry-explosive blast warheads. Both types of warheads work on the same principle by which the explosive is dispersed and mixed with atmospheric oxygen before the detonation process is completed. The destruction, death, and injury are caused by the blast wave. Reactive-surround warheads are thin-walled containers filled with combustible aluminum and nitrocellulose. Slurry-explosive warheads are a mixture of a high explosive or other explosive solid mixed with a combustible liquid. Blast Injuries Blast explosives kill or injure in three ways: with the blast wave; with flying debris or by collapsing buildings; and by the blast wind throwing bodies against the ground, equipment, structures, and other stationary objects. According to a 1993 study by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency: The [blast] kill mechanism against living targets is unique--and unpleasant.... What kills is the pressure wave, and more importantly, the subsequent rarefaction [vacuum], which ruptures the lungs.… If the fuel deflagrates but does not detonate, victims will be severely burned and will probably also inhale the burning fuel. Since the most common FAE fuels, ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, are highly toxic, undetonated FAE should prove as lethal to personnel caught within the cloud as most chemical agents.(8) According to a separate U.S. Central Intelligence Agency study, "the effect of an FAE explosion within confined spaces is immense. Those near the ignition point are obliterated. Those at the fringe are likely to suffer many internal, and thus invisible injuries, including burst eardrums and crushed inner ear organs, severe concussions, ruptured lungs and internal organs, and possibly blindness."(9) Another Defense Intelligence Agency document speculates that because the "shock and pressure waves cause minimal damage to brain tissue…it is possible that victims of FAEs are not rendered unconscious by the blast, but instead suffer for several seconds or minutes while they suffocate."(10) Lung injuries are particularly difficult to diagnose and treat. If FAEs are used in Chechnya, this would present an additional burden on the ill-equipped and overburdened Chechen hospitals. Kornet-E Long Range Antitank Guided Missile System, with thermobaric (fuel air explosive) HE warhead, Infantry antitank rocket with FAE warhead. RPO-A Shmel Rocket Infantry flame-thrower. Reportedly, the lethal and destructive effects inside a structure will cover an area of 80 cubic meters. In an open field the lethal area reportedly covers 50 square meters.(13) AS-11 and AS-12 rocket warheads. Much of the information about these warheads is classified.(14) FAEs are not currently banned under international humanitarian law. However, because they are wide-area weapons, military forces must exercise extreme caution and refrain from using them in or near population centers. Operational Status The the ODAB-500PM bom is in service with the Russian Air Force and was exhibited in Paris in 1995. There are no known export orders. After being around the lock on comminuity for a while now, and reading the fourms over the past couple of years. I have came to believe that after Black Shark that Lockon will be no longer developed. Is it safe to say that? Because if it is, I was thinking something, and I know there will be some of you that will agree with this idea and some that will say I'm full of it......well that is what is great about opinions, and I listen to everyone and respect the opinions of others, so with that said lets not take this thread and turn it to a major fight. But with that said here is my question, answer, or whatever you want to call it. OK we all know Falcon 4.0 right? and we see where Falcon AF went right? well in my opinion, Falcon AF went no where at all, still has alot of issues. I bought it and was thinking it was going to be a treat to get the sim the way it was ment to be sold, Boy was I wrong. Same Graphics,Flight model, so on so fourth. So do I consider the repackage and redevelopment of Falcon AF from Falcon 4.0 a success, No Does the developer of Falcon AF yep I bet they do because they got my money and so many others. Was it worth it, Nope and I found a way to return it and get my money back. Falcon 4.0 was so much better when there was groups of people working on the different patchs and mods for Falcon 4.0. There was so much more to see with these mods. Aircraft were AI are now flyable plus several other improvements. and you had several versions to pick from. Ok ok, I know your saying this is a lock on forums and not a falcon 4.0 forum, yep I know but here is the 2nd half of this..... Well if Lock on is not going to be developed anymore after Black Shark, the could it be possible that ED could make a SDK or something that could make the game grow more in more with the people that own the product? Could the virtual Pilots of the Lockon start to make their own mods & improvements. I know that mods are now being made but they are just simple mods, not mods that require a person to learn how to say fix certain things. So I know its a little off the wall and really just an Idea I have to make the sim stay around and make a few of us happy that we can improve on some things. I just had to get this out and on the fourms to see what everyone has to say. Cinch\

Cougar Hotas at Compusa
Mike Cinch Perry replied to TomKatt's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thrustmaster Cougar The Thrustamster Cougar is the best hands down, and with the price of the Cougar at Compusa it leaves no questions not to pick on up. I love my Cougar! Everyone on the Virtual Thunderbirds Team uses one and as you can see our flying shows how well the cougar performs with the Foxy software as well as setting up your curves on your axis in Lockon. My Cougar is strait out of the box no mods, and as of right now I see not using any mods due to the fact that it is smooth as glass in the controls. So with that said it would be a great add on to your computer if you want realism and the feel of quality and performance in your hands while flying your favorite sim!! Out, Cinch -
Hey Ram Could that be from Pearl Harbour? I will look thru my DVDs and find it, I think I might have it and look thru the credits for the score composer!!! I'll let you know tomorrow. Oh by the way Ram, if you could could you tell me how you capture your ingame footage in lockon with fraps? Your videos look so sharp, but I cant get mine even close, as well as what program you use to make your movies!!!

Thrustmaster Cougars on sale . . .
Mike Cinch Perry replied to VapoR's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is not the end of the Cougar!! The reason the cougars are in Compusa's now is that they wanted to get them in the retail stores, compusa has been able to special order for a person who wanted one, but never had them in stock, but now they do. Now on the price, the price I bet was set for Xmas pricing, but the sticks never made it to the stores on time, who knows what could cause that to happen (Remember they are imported to the states) so it could have been several things that delayed cougars being at your local compusa. All I know from what I have heard thru the grapevine is that they are not going away and will be around for a good while. So if you ever wanted a Cougar now is the time, and for the "Cougars are going away" stuff, na its all hog wash!!! Mike Cinch Perry -
