  1. To OP: It really depends what you want from your Trek. While TNG occasionally flirted with serialization in its later years, it remains a firmly episodic show til the end. DS9 begins with a slightly more serialized approach, though it’s still episodic at its core. It then does a remarkable transition to full serialization in its later seasons (5-7, roughly) and bears little resemblance to its TOS/TNG ancestors, both structurally and thematically. My personal opinion is that DS9 in its early seasons (1-4, roughly) is consistently higher quality than even TNG’s best seasons...but it’s markedly less interesting also. There just aren’t those instant classics like “Yesterday’s Enterprise” or “Best of Both Worlds”, “Family” or “Inner Light”, in DS9. It’s a much more consistent 7, rather than TNG’s 9 followed by two 3’s and a 5. In the later seasons DS9’s another show entirely and you can honestly see the beginnings of modern serialized television taking form right in front of your eyes. In answer to your question, you may not be a DS9 virgin, but my advice is still to start at s1e1. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of recommendations to start elsewhere with DS9. I obviously disagree with your opinion on DS9. Voyager, yes, is best avoided altogether.
  2. No they don’t simulate tides. I guess it’s a bug since the threads been moved to where nobody will ever see it. Didn’t even know there was a DLC Maps forum section. Also I noticed that the helicopter rotor downwash effect occurs at what I assume is the original water level, about ten feet above the current water surface. I really hope sea level is returned to its original state. Besides looking really bad there are now gnarly ground effect consequences when flying NOE and transitioning land/sea boundaries.
  3. I’ve been away for a few weeks and just updated to whatever the current beta is. My Persian Gulf map sea level seems significantly lower than before and the land/sea transition is much more abrupt. Like, all beaches and coastlines are now a 10+ foot vertical drop down to the water. Is this a deliberate change or a new bug? Either way the coastlines look pretty terrible now when doing low level work.
  4. Pre-ordering open, but no ea date. At this point they probably need the $$$
  5. Interesting indeed, care to elaborate?
  6. Unless you’ve somehow disabled it, DCS should be checking for updates once every 24 hours. This can lead to a little confusion/frustration if the last time your install checked for an update was 2200 Tuesday night and you fire up DCS Wednesday morning expecting the update, DCS won’t check for it until after 2200 Wednesday.
  7. Much improved, thanks ED!
  8. That's a long time, what, three years? Strangely though, Wags doesn't seem to suffer from the same jaggy wake as the rest of us. It looks like the effect is identical but with anti-aliasing applied. So what gives? Maybe a tester or dev can let us know if we're missing something or if they're doing something different for their videos. I didn't know such things exist. I'll look into it!
  9. I actually did try SSAA again after your first suggestion, and I'm currently using a 1080p monitor. My fps still drops like a rock with SSAA and it doesn't show any visual improvement over MSAA. Whether SSAA or MSAA, AA overall is ok, the ship wake jaggies are really bad. The only visible difference between the two that I can see is much higher fps with MSAA. I appreciate the suggestions though. Edit: Based on the video I posted up top, is my AA significantly worse or does everybody's look like that.
  10. Yeah I tried it when it was first released. It turned my normally smooth running sim into a slideshow, and negligible affect on wakes.
  11. Is this really what it's supposed to look like? The ship's wake has been ugly since I first installed 2.5 and I've spent many, many hours testing and adjusting settings both in-game and Nvidia CP, trying to smooth the ship wakes. AA works ok (and just ok) on everything else, but ships wake specifically is a nightmare of jaggies and strobing. I finally bring it up now because I was showing DCS to a friend last night. Catapulted off the carrier, circled around and he literally said, "oh wow, that looks terrible." He's right, and to be honest, it was embarrassing. Attached are my settings and a video, though it looks quite a bit worse when it's not masked by youtube's res and compression limitations. Again, I've messed with nearly every setting in CP and in game and nothing at all affect the wakes. Am I missing something? Are there config values that can be manipulated? Or is it this bad for everyone else too?
  12. It's just that my expectations got re-grounded and excitement tempered, probably a good thing. It's been awhile since I've been around ED/DCS. It's also been much more than four years for the Hornet. Back in 2010, during Warthog beta, Wags was openly stating their next module was a modern American fighter. A forum member then discovered that ED registered some domains with F-18 in the name, so it's been 'known' around these parts to be in development for at least eight. And don't forget that blood-orange NTTR map that was released, then quickly pulled, during early Warthog beta. It took five. more. years. before they finally re-released it to you guys...as a beta, of course. I was already long gone by then. Computer had let the smoke out, kids and career showed up, etc. So a few months ago I heard that 2.5 came out, saw that third parties can and have developed some awesome looking stuff, was legitimately appalled that the Hornet was unbelievably still in development, and decided to start dipping my toe back in. Gotta say, fundamentally this is the exact same simulator it was ten years ago. New skin on the Caucuses, a couple new (and awesome) maps, new version number. But the same bugs, same super archaic (yet powerful) mission editor, and seemingly years and years of the exact same missed expectations. If you're expecting the pace to pick up now I suggest doing a deep dive in these forums. That's always been the expectation, both internally and from us customers, and it never has. Sorry about the rant. I'll end with this: Despite everything I wrote above, DCS is still the best flight simulator on the market, bar none, combat or otherwise.
  13. Wow. Early 2016. My jaw was literally hanging open while reading that. They were saying "this year!" over two and a half years ago. Most, not even some, but most of the items on their "this year" list still don't exist. Hell, most of them are still being given the "maybe someday" treatment. This is just a huge reminder that with the massive amount of weapons/sensors/systems modeling left to do on the Hornet I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's still in early access 12 months, shoot, 24 months from right now, and all of those 2016 items are likely to still be missing then too. Damn, reading that newsletter was a real bummer.
  14. This was my fault Wags. I think you're referring to the in-game tutorial missions, and this whole time I've been scrutinizing your YouTube videos. I totally forgot that modules come with training missions. I'm gonna jump on those right now. Apologies, sir.
  15. I literally just watched your cold start tutorial and there's nothing about key commands. You literally say "at, uh, about 20% rpm on the right engine we'll move the right throttle forward and at that point it will introduce fuel..." My warthog throttles are also not moving, won't bind to any throttle options in the control options menu and won't even respond to key commands.
  16. Looks like it's confirmed, we're getting an F-16C! I'll be first in line in 2027 when it crawls kicking and screaming out of beta.
  17. Mystery solved: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=60652 :D (I can't even speculate why he needs this!)
  18. DM - You obviously spent a lot of time and effort creating your wiki...and I like it! Very well laid out. I'm going to go snoop around in there for a while now.
  19. HAWX = BS (And I don't mean Black Shark.) I don't remember the exact year that the A's got an autopilot, I'm pretty sure it was early 90's. I guess not before GW1. Am I correct that the autopilot wasn't upgraded with the C? Thanks for the book suggestion. I will definitely pick it up soon!
  20. I actually do this with FSX, but with my race sims. I'll "fly" to Europe or Cali or NY from my home airport the day before I plan to "race"! Immersive!;)
  21. IIRC they got the autopilot in the early 90's. I'm not sure, but I don't think the autopilot was upgraded at all on the C model. (My first post! Hi everyone!)
