  1. I've managed to get this working with LUA from Helios, although the technique should be easily transferable if someone is clever enough to script LUA for use in-game (e.g. pop up a dialog with the briefing in game instead of relying on Helios to do it). Details here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=70408
  2. When I respond to these instructions I end up doing both - i.e. fly @240 for 5nm AND set the TACAN to airfield freq and HSI course set to the run-way heading. Then as you approach the point given by ATC you'll get CDI guidance on the run-way approach path as well. You can get airfield TACAN and Runway info from the CDU DIVERT Page.
  3. Yes I've had it a few times and assumed it was a Helios bug, not a DCS one. Have seen it whilst using Beta 4 and release. There's a thread on the SCS forum about it: http://www.scsimulations.com/forums/showthread.php?835-Sticking-Helios-keys!! Craig introduced a mod in the latest Helios update (RC4) in attempt to resolve, but it's strange that you're seeing this with the Cougar MFDs. Perhaps a DCS bug after all.....
  4. APU + APU Gen needs to be on for the AM radio to broadcast. Also double check the freq and check you switched the freq after the radio was turned on (not before).
  5. I think I just solved it (or at least got a work-around) - logging out and back into the forum seems to cure it. In Firefox I normally just save my tabs when exiting so I don't end up having to log in again - perhaps this creates an extended session on the server or something which eventually runs out of steam...
  6. Thanks Ethereal. Suspected it might be something like this. Ironically, as soon as I posted the above it gave me (you guessed it) "The page..." so I couldn't even view my own post. Somewhat bizarely it does seem to be work in IE (or perhaps I'm just getting a different set of blocked threads). I normally use Firefox.
  7. Recently I've had no end of problems displaying some posts in the forum - I get a white page with the words: The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. It only happens with some posts (not all, even in the same forum), but when it happens it seems to be specific to those posts (i.e. doesn't change randomly). Any ideas? This has only started happening in the last day AFAIK.... Thanks SM
  8. My last attempt at this yielded the same problem with JTAC, except that this time I checked before contacting that my user/group id was set to 1 - but I still didn't get data. However, on a positive note, having flown this many times already I was much quicker at entering the JTAC provided coords into a new flightplan and (unlike previous attempts) managed to arrive at the ADDER IP on time - from there direct to the JTAC waypoint and I found the line of tanks first time. So I think my problem before was loitering too long at WP1 fiddling with the CDU / JTAC coords. Getting to the IP on time seems to pay dividends....
  9. Why are you trying to program the boatswitch? (in fact same goes for most of the WH buttons/assignments - the A-10C provides the correct mappings for TM HW by default, so you only need to set-up the few unused buttons where you want to program some extras).
  10. Strange - I wouldn't expect there'd be any difference between the download and CD version. Have you tried posting over at SCS (not wanting to hi-jack this thread) - the support from Gadroc is excellent.
  11. Have you tried the training missions yet? I really recommend them - they lead you through the avionics and weapons deployment step by step (well not quite, you do have to remember a few steps, but you get text prompts and can always pause to take it all in before proceeding).
  12. No mouse only - none of my displays are touch screen.
  13. I created a conversion table for this and embedded it into my Helios profile: Much quicker/easier than fidling with calculations on the fly (literally ;)). If you have Excel it's very easy to knock up something like this for printing.
  14. I think it's in the downloads section here as well, but possibly not as high-res as the SCS version. I had the same problem with the format/printing, but managed to get something usable by chopping it apart in an image editor, printing separately and fiddling with printer settings.
  15. Try this: http://www.scsimulations.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=2
  16. Great tips guys- I keep learning more about this sim every day. Thanks for posting. Reps inbound....
  17. You're comparing apples and oranges - flight control software is safety critical and developed to much higher standards of integrity, for good reason. Coding rates on safety critical systems are very low and the burden of proof that the software is correct is very high. Not sure where you got the idea that Shuttle FCS is the only defect free software on earth - now there's a claim just wanting to be shot down by someone . One thing is for sure, if you ran DCS-A10C on shuttle hardware the frame rates would be appalling (the computer HW is about 20 years old isn't it - smartphones have beefier processors these days). :music_whistling: But that's the point really - Shuttle and similar safety critical systems have enormous constraints due to the safety risk, so they don't end up being large and complex (like DCS) without very good reason - keeping it small and simple is the watchword in that game...
  18. Thanks - I'll give that a try next time - really missing the TGP - keep getting shot down using the Mav seekers before I've had chance to properly ID the tank column.
  19. You hit the nail on the head Frogfoot - it really is a baptism of fire - quite a challenge for the first mission of the first campaign. I'm playing without labels turned on and am really struggling just to identify the tank column (before getting shot up to the point I have to give up). The low flying experience that the cloud base forces you into is amazing (esp. when you're trying to dodge tracer from one of the shilkas that's lurking) and for that I think it's a great start, but I'm finding it difficult to find the targets with just the Mav and no TGP. Also, given the close proximity of friendlies it seems odd that JTAC type 3 is employed (i.e. no designation) - the first time I tried I ended up committing fratricide :(
  20. Cannot comment on the Saitek as I don't have one (and per the response from Viper I didn't think they produced an A10 replica HOTAS anyway). For DCS A-10 I find the TM Warthog to be excellent - not only because of the quality of the build, but also the default support in the game - i.e. button references in the manual referring to the very same buttons on the HOTAS. Makes learning this complicated sim just that little bit easier....
  21. Almost as important as a joystick IMO. You can also use for various other games if they support (e.g. driving games). Well worth the money.
  22. I take that back :music_whistling: It is possible from the Options screen (I just figured out how I did it last time with BETA 4), but it's not very intuitive. Basically you have to select Systems in the Filter in the options and then you'll see a "Toggle Landing Gear Up/Down" action which can be assigned to the Warthog buttons. The "G" key assignment for landing gear toggle is assigned to a different action "Landing Gear Up/Down" (under the Landing Gear panel selection) but this doesn't allow you to assign to the Warthog. So two actions for the same thing - you just have to find the right one. Quite why it's done this way I've no idea, but it ain't very intuitive.
  23. I can confirm that this is newly broken in the release version. Under BETA 4 it was possible to assign the left throttle button to toggle landing gear up/down as the OP wants to do (I know because that's how I set it up in beta4), but it just isn't possible in the release version without editing lua files. Giving the crashing as well, it seems like the options screen is more broken now than before.
  24. If you want to place a waypoint a certain number of NM from a position and know the bearing it's far quicker/more accurate to use the OFFSET page on the CDU - see pg 240 of the manual. OFFSET only allows calculations from a known point (waypoint or markpoint) so to do it from present position you'd need to create a markpoint at your position using the TAD, then go to OFFSET page and enter bearing/distance from that markpoint - once done it will give you the lat / long, which you can then copy to create a new waypoint from the data using R7 (pg 241 manual).
