Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

We are excited to announce the newest addition to the DCS family - the legendary MiG-17F by Red Star Simulations! Check out the details below and get ready to take control of an aviation history icon. Development Screenshots.

We would like to update you on the improvements coming soon to the F-16C and F/A-18C radars, notably realistic target detection and tracking in various operation modes. Phase 1 of this update incorporates more detailed and realistic modeling of the radar waveform that better accounts for reasonable detection range ratios between HPRF and MPRF modes. The model also has an adjustable speedgate option to select the width of the main-beam clutter notch filter, helping to reject or show unwanted targets. Please, note that this will be the initial release of the new radar model, and development will continue in future phases.

SorelRo is launching their latest campaign, DCS: UH-1H The Last Show that promises an adventurous helicopter storyline. Stay tuned for the next Open Beta update!

Thank you for your passion and support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Eagle Dynamics

    MiG-17F

    Announcement

    Hero1.png

The MiG-17 is a subsonic fighter plane developed by the Soviet Union to improve the high-speed issues the MiG-15 encountered. It became the first Soviet fighter jet to feature an afterburner which greatly improved its performance. The result was one of the most successful transonic fighters ever developed. Ultimately, the MiG-17 was flown by over 30 countries over a timespan of three decades; it was also built under license outside of the USSR in Poland and China.

The MiG-17 is most famous for its role in the Vietnam War where it was pressed into dogfights against 3rd generation U.S. fighter planes. Its ambush and tight quarter dogfight tactics were so successful that the U.S., Soviet Union, and European countries were forced to re-evaluate their own aerial combat tactics and rethink future plane developments.

    Hero2.png

By the 1970’s, the U.S. Navy’s Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) and U.S. Air Forces Weapons School were established to teach pilots new air-to-air combat tactics from lessons learned. The F-16 Viper was a direct result of the lessons learned in Vietnam while fighting the maneuverable MiG-17; it's no coincidence that the F-16 was also the first fighter jet that was able to out-rate the MiG-17.

Headed by two pilots, the Red Star Simulations' primary focus from the start was on accurate flight dynamics. Using Soviet wind test tunnel data, performance manuals, U.S. testing results from a captured MiG-17F, and with the aid of several current MiG-17 pilots, the MiG-17F Lim5 module for DCS has been developed with the most realistic simulated flight dynamics ever produced on a MiG-17 plane.

    Flight dynamics key features

    - Turn and climb performance, 0 to 40,000+ feet

    - Dynamic stall and flap performance

    - Slow-speed/high-AOA drag

    - High-G drag

    - Dynamic engine (speed/altitude/thrust) performance

    Plane key features

    - ASP-4N gunsight with SRD-1M gun radar

    - SPO-2 Sirena RWR

    - SRO-2 Khrom IFF

    - ARK-5 ADF radio and navigation

    - Standard and Egyptian upgrade weapons

Please follow the news for more information about this fascinating addition to DCS.

    Radar

    Development Report

    Hero3.png

Phase 1 of our new radar model for the F-16C and F/A-18C provides more realistic radar target detection and tracking in different modes of operation. It incorporates many new features like signal-to-noise ratio calculations that determine a target’s detection range, signal-to-clutter ratio, and receiver dynamic range calculations. The latter may limit detection of small targets in the presence of strong ground clutter. The new modeling also better accounts for the unique aspects of different waveforms.

For example: Velocity Search (VS) and Range While Search (RWS) both include High Pulse Repetition Frequency (HPRF) waveforms; however, RWS provides range measurement because it uses Frequency Modulation (FM) ranging, that also results in a loss of sensitivity. Our model accounts for such losses, and detection range depends on the type of FM-waveform. Also, HPRF modes can only detect closing targets; detection of low aspect targets are generally limited by strong side-lobe clutter. The Medium Pulse Repetition Frequency (MPRF) mode has eight distinct waveforms. Whereas the use of so many waveforms cause a proportional reduction in the signal-to-noise ratio (thus a reduction in detection range relative to HPRF), it does provide all-aspect target detection aside from beaming targets that may be obscured by main lobe clutter. Phase 1 of our new model accounts for these effects, and faithfully models the detection range ratio between HPRF and MPRF modes.

    Hero4.png

Another new feature is an adjustable speed gate option. This provides the ability to select the width of the main-beam clutter notch filter that adjusts the threshold of minimal radial velocity that can be detected. This may assist in filtering unwanted, slow targets.

Upon Phase 1 release and tuning, we will implement Phase 2 that will include the effect of radar azimuth and bar settings on detection ranges and the inclusion of more accurate look down radar performance.

BuddySpike is going to offer Blue Flag scenarios that will include live statistics, an online live map and will feature historically accurate locations that were used by military personnel during the different wars in the region. Here is a list of the upcoming scenarios that Buddyspike is planning to host:

    1956

Suez Crisis (Operation Kadesh) war, mainly between Egypt and Israel in northern Sinai peninsula. This Blue Flag scenario will include various Air operations and ground warfare in the famous areas of this war. Each coalition will be able to push through Sinai to occupy all the objectives and get control of the peninsula.

    1967 - 1973

Starting from the Six-Day war (1967) through the war of attrition (1967 - 1970) and finally to the Yom Kippur war (1973) of the entire Sinai peninsula. Sinai

    Development Report

    image.png

Our third party partner OneReTech continues to develop and enhance the DCS: Sinai map for upcoming early access launch. They have received a lot of positive feedback and comments since the last reviews. Thanks to all of you who commented and provided valuable information and criticism, Sinai can only get better with your support and review.

Some unique scenes have already been improved and many bugs have been fixed. The destruction models are in the final stages of development. Many improvements, including the great pyramids of Giza have already been implemented, along with many other scenes, airfield details and textures.

OneReTech have now added moving trains, greater variety of vegetation and birds in port areas and several models of tankers are already in the works that will complement the realism of port scenes.

For Early Access launch, six new airfields will be available:

    • El Arish, El Gora, Baluza are on the north of the Sinai peninsula.
    • Bir Hasanah is in the middle.
    • St Catherine and Abu Rudeis are to the south.

These strategic locations will allow the recreation of realistic scenarios of the missions of the Arab-Israeli wars.

“Our team has been working hard on a tool that allows you to procedurally get textures that are already used on the DCS: Sinai map. Furthermore, we have improved the tools that allow us to obtain height maps at a more accurate resolution of 1 metre per pixel, where the original resolution was 38 metres per pixel. This allows you to get textures as well as a surface mesh with a higher density using the Eagle Dynamics TDK tool. This can be used to build unique places and mountains. For example, you can make dunes in the desert not only on the texture, but also procedurally generate a surface mesh. We've included a few examples in the Development Screenshots.”

    Voice Chat

    Development Progress

    Hero1.png

We have improved the overall stability of the voice chat connection between users, even when using a VPN. We are now working on realistic radio sound effects and the possibility for players to create their own radio sound effect profiles. We’ve added static noises for better immersion and a microphone normalization feature with an updated mic test option. Many bugs have also been resolved when talking over the radio between different aircraft modules.

We have also added the ability to mute individual players and adjust the volume of specific channels. This gives players greater control over their communication and reduces potential radio distractions during gameplay.

The improvements to the integrated DCS World Voice Chat system are significant, and it will greatly enhance the overall experience. We are pleased to let you know that these enhancements are in final testing and that they will be released soon.

    UH-1H

    Development Report

    Hero2.png

New engine modelling methods have been in progress during development of the Mi-24P and AH-64D modules. The new UH-1H engine model was in many ways a test bed for the methods we then used in the AH-64D engines model. We’ve been gathering feedback about DCS: UH-1H over the years and thanks to our forum users; Piston85, Ramsay and others, we have pinpointed changes we would work on during the new engine model development. Now we are finishing the deployment of the new engine model to UH-1H and are eager to let you try it. Please make sure to give us your feedback.

The new model represents fine tuning and here are some points about why we were working on it:

    • Some of the old engine model parameters did not match with their real counterpart, especially in transient regimes.
    • We wanted to improve temperature regimes compliance to match the real world counterpart, like EGT for example and other engine parameters changing, depending on altitude and outside temperature changes.
    • We wanted to model some of the mechanics better, for instance a new model has allowed us to expand states for connection of the free turbine and main rotor.
    • The new model allowed us to improve details of start-up and shutdown procedures, because of expanded modelling of compressors and free turbine.

The new model allows us to improve the details of start-up and shutdown procedures, because of the expanded modelling of the compressor and free turbine.

The image shows that we are now accurately modelling auto-rotation situation readings on the tachometer. The real aircraft dial is on the left and the DCS: UH-1H Huey dial on the right.

    31 March 2023

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

The Heatblur team has started 2023 at full power and is executing on a broad, exciting and ambitious roadmap. Key focuses for the team are primarily the completion of the F-14 Tomcat and AJS-37 Viggen, as well as launch of the legendary F-4E Phantom II.

We are thrilled to share progress on the DCS: F-4E Phantom II by Heatblur Simulations. Please read the details below and check out the Development Screenshots. We are confident that Heatblur will deliver an exceptionally rich and compelling recreation of this iconic fighter.

We are keen to remind you of our Free Trials initiative allowing you to test all our modules for a limited period without having to purchase or provide payment information. At the end of the trial period, you may also benefit from exclusive deals, so keep an eye on the Module Manager!

    F-14A/B Tomcat

    Development Report

“Development on DCS: F-14 continues, with primary focus on refining and improving the flight model for both -A and -B variants, completion of the early -A variant (F-14A-135-GR) and additional new features such as the TARPS pod. All of these elements are key to completing the aircraft and exiting Early Access.” – Heatblur Simulations

    Hero1.png

Currently, the Heatblur team is undertaking a large effort to refine and finalise the flight modelling of the F-14 Tomcat. In the previous update, the changes delivered were exclusively for the F-14A; the TF-30 powered version of the aircraft. The overall goal of this tuning pass was to even more closely match published performance data and ensure that the F-14A performs as it did in reality. The Heatblur F-14A is now more accurate in maintaining energy states across the whole flight envelope, meaning more accurate performance while manoeuvring. The flight modelling refinements for the F-14A are practically complete and the team is now focusing on the F-14B, the F110 engine powered variant of the Tomcat. If you’re interested in a full report and analysis of the changes, the methodologies used and the data sources involved, please read a full length report and article available here.

    Hero2.png

Other major additions to the F-14 and AJS-37 Viggen include quality of life features such as movable mirrors, new details for static aircraft, as well as the first version of “Forge” - a key feature of the DCS: F-14 Tomcat - enabling a more dynamic cockpit experience. Forge will add realistic dynamic elements to your cockpit, such as variations in equipment, field modifications or equipment commonly found in the aircraft. Later, this system will be fully customizable, so you will be able to customise your cockpit based on your preferences and put together your very own jet.

    F-4E Phantom II

    Development Report

    Hero4.png

The F-4E Phantom II is a 3rd generation multirole fighter aircraft, and formed the backbone of many air forces worldwide. Heatblur Simulations’ recreation of the Phantom aims to be as realistic as possible, and marries together a decade of development experience with a new, powerful next generation simulation framework created for all future Heatblur Simulations products.

    Hero5.png

DCS: F-4E is now approaching completion and an unveiling in preparation for early access release. Full completion of the following systems has occurred or is imminent:

    • Professional Flight Modeling (PFM)
    • APQ-120 radar and associated systems, based on a next generation physically based radar model.
    • Weapons Systems
    • Flight control, trim feel and autopilot systems, accurately simulating pilot strength stick feel-dynamics,
    • APR-46 RHAW radar warning receiver, a physically based analogue receiver with analogue sound synthesis
    • Mass Dynamics Systems, providing far more accurate and realistic simulation of all movable and physical components of an aircraft.
    • Persistence and Wear Systems
    • …and much more

Currently, the Heatblur team is focused on completing some of the last remaining major items of the Phantom II, including some of the more unique and complex features found in other Heatblur modules, such as JESTER AI. JESTER AI is Heatblur’s proprietary AI technology to provide an immersive and unique experience for multi-crew aircraft, currently available in the DCS: F-14. DCS: F-4E will debut JESTER v2, a ground-up rewrite of JESTER AI, providing a better foundation for future extensibility, improvements and a more immersive experience. JESTER v2 will also serve as the foundation for future Heatblur aircraft, such as DCS: A-6E.

    Hero6.png

Stay tuned for a full unveiling of DCS: F-4E Phantom II as Heatblur Simulations reaches the end of the development process and dive deep into the aircraft, its systems and this release.

    PC-9/A

    Announcement

    Hero1.png

“Check Six Simulations is pleased to introduce the DCS: PC-9/A, a single-engine, low-wing tandem-seat turboprop training aircraft that was operated by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) for more than 30 years. In the mid-late 1980’s the PC-9/A replaced the MB-326H jet trainer and was the backbone of the Australian Air Force and Navy pilot training. Beyond its traipning role, the PC-9/A was operated by the RAAF Roulettes demonstration team and used in Forward Air Control (FAC).

    Hero2.png

DCS: PC-9/A is precisely modeled using 3D scan technology to highlight every detail both internally and externally, accurately replicating this aircraft in every way. Our development team has gone to great lengths to model the flight aerodynamics to allow aviators to experience the most authentic feeling of the capabilities of this aircraft.”

    Normandy 2

    Development Update

    Hero1.png

We are excited to announce that this large-scale map of the Normandy region and southeast England will be available soon. Work on debugging and completion is in full swing. This map will include 69 airfields, many new towns and villages, ports, factories, and the capitals of London and Paris.

    Hero2.png

The Normandy 1944 map will be updated such that it will be compatible with the Normandy 2 map in both single player and multiplayer. This includes the addition of many new and improved fields, cities, and villages that will now become unique and separate territories of France and England.

Other changes include improved buildings and structures, bridges, ports, roads and railways, forests, trees, sea cliffs, and coastlines. All Normandy 1944 map airfields will receive improvements, and their infrastructure and aircraft hangars will become more detailed and authentic. The entire map will receive a refresh to the seasonal changes of spring, summer, and autumn. As part of this free Normandy 1944 update, the five English airfields of Deadland, Friston, Lymington, Odiham, and Stoney Cross will become uniquely modelled. Additionally, 18 new airfields will be added, with 4 in England and 14 in France.

    Hero3.png

The release of the new Normandy 2 map will also be a huge and free improvement to the Normandy 1944 map. This will allow all Normandy 1944 map owners to have all of the Normandy 2 map airfields at no extra cost. Having the same 69 airfields on both maps will allow players to share the sky in online campaigns and online missions. Ugra Media has done everything possible to remove any borders between the two maps.

The price of the Normandy 2 map is $59.99, but for all users of Normandy 1944 or Channel the new map will be available at a price of $14.99. The map will be available on both our eShop and Steam.

    Hero4.png

Ugra-Media would like to thank the DCS Forum participants for their passionate interest in the project and for their active participation in the discussions. This feedback helped add the airfields of Orly, Stoney Cross, Lymington, Odiham, Deadland, Friston, Amiens-Glisy, Poix, and Ronai.

Great attention was given to creating unique objects, buildings, and structures for Paris and London that include famous historical monuments. Transport and military infrastructure have also been recreated in detail. We look forward to sharing more information soon.

    F-15E Strike Eagle

    Pre-order by RAZBAM

    Hero1.png

The F-15E Strike Eagle was developed in the mid 1980's as a multi-role fighter, designed to perform air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. An impressive array of avionics and electronics systems give the F-15E the capability to fight at low or high altitude, day or night, and in all weather.  The Strike Eagle is the USAF's premier strike fighter still in use today.

    Hero2.png

The Strike Eagle delivered fighter aircrew several first-time capabilities. Its APG-70 radar, based on the very capable APG-63 from the F-15A-D, boasted a synthetic mapping capability that can create pictures of the target based solely on radar imaging. A self-contained, networked electronic warfare suite gives the aircraft excellent self-protection capabilities with enhanced battlespace information being delivered to the ergonomic two seat cockpit layout.

The Low-Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN) allows the aircraft to fly at low altitudes, at night and in all weather conditions to attack ground targets with a variety of precision-guided and unguided weapons. The LANTIRN system, consisting of two pods attached to the exterior of the aircraft, gives the F-15E unequaled weapons delivery accuracy. The Navigation Pod contains a Terrain-Following Radar that allows the pilot to operate at very low altitudes following cues displayed on the heads-up display. This system can also be coupled to the aircraft's autopilot to provide fully "hands off" capability.

    Hero3.png

Each of the low-drag Conformal Fuel Tanks adapted to smoothly fit the F-15E's fuselage can carry 750 gallons of fuel. The tanks hold weapons on short pylons rather than conventional weapon racks, reducing drag and further extending range. For air-to-ground missions, the F-15E can carry most of the weapons in the Air Force’s inventory. It may also be armed with AIM-9M Sidewinders or AIM-120C Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) for the air-to-air role. The "E" model also has an internally mounted 20mm gun that can carry up to 500 rounds.

The subject of this study level simulation is the F-15E Strike Eagle Suite 4E+ software installed in Strike Eagles around 2003.

    Key Features include:

    • Advanced Flight Model that provides realistic performance and flight characteristics for the F-15E Strike Eagle with P&W F100-PW-229 engines.
    • Highly detailed external 3D model and textures for the most accurate F-15E currently available in any simulation software.
    • Highly detailed and accurate 6 DOF cockpit based on 3D scanned objects with high resolution textures, specular and bump mapping, and mouse-interactive controls.
    • Detailed and thorough simulation of the F-15E’s AN/APG-70 Radar.
    • Joint Tactical Information Distribution Systems (JTIDS) datalink.

    Hero4.png

    Training material includes:

    • A set of interactive training missions covering all the most important instruments, weapons and aspects of using the aircraft.
    • Fully detailed manual for the aircraft and all systems
    • A free story-driven campaign built by Baltic Dragon
    • A set of single missions for Singleplayer, Multiplayer and Multicrew.

Please kindly note that DCS: F-15E Strike Eagle by RAZBAM is now available for pre-purchase and benefits from a 30% discount.

    10 February 2023

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

After three years of research, hard work and dedication, Deka Ironwork Simulations is pleased to announce their selection of the DCS: J-8II as their next module. They will be developing the J-8PP variant, and we look forward to sharing more information soon.

We are pleased to share progress on our new pilot model for the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet. Please check out the In Development Screenshots and read about the animations below.

Realsimulator recently launched the evolution of the best available joystick bases for the home cockpit. They are proud to offer this highly-realistic base that mimics the F-16C control stick sensor. The R3 MKII “ULTRA” maintains the same high-quality construction Realsimulator is known for.

Thank you for your passion and support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Eagle Dynamics

    J-8II

    Deka Ironwork Simulations

    Hero1.png

During the 1980s, China’s J-7 and J-8 could no longer confront the threats of the Su-24 and Tu-22 from the north. Therefore, there was an urgent need for a fighter with medium-range interception capabilities that consequently gave birth to the J-8II. In order to install a larger radar, the nose air intake and its shock cone were replaced with an ogival radome and lateral air intakes. Benefitting from an upgraded power plant, using two WP-13B turbojet engines, the J-8II, as an interceptor, can carry medium-range air-to-air missiles and fly Mach 2.2 at 12,000 meters.

The upgraded J-8II by Grumman (a.k.a J-8PP) was fitted with APG-66(V) radar, 1553B bus, and other western devices. For the first time, the 1553 data bus concept was introduced to the Chinese aviation industry. To launch and guide Aspide/PL-11 medium-range missiles, a Chinese made continuous wave emitter was installed to work with the APG-66(V) radar. The J-8PP can perform medium-range interception against low-altitude / high-speed and high-altitude / high-speed intruders. It also has limited ground attack capability.

The DCS: J-8II module will include the flyable J-8PP and the AI J-8F.

    Key features of J-8PP include:

    • AN/APG-66V-PRC-F8 radar with NAM, STT, ACM, GM, and AGR modes
    • AWG-27 for loadout management
    • Fire Control Computer from Westinghouse
    • LN-39 INS
    • HUD from GEC
    • Head Down Display from Honeywell
    • Air Data Computer (CPU-140/A) from GEC
    • Radar Warning Receiver SPJ/IFF
    • 2 x WP-13B turbojet engines
    • Air-to-Air missiles: Aspide/PL-11, PL-8 and PL-5
    • Unguided weapons: 250kg GP bombs and 57mm/90mm rockets

We hope you enjoyed this preview of this fascinating new module coming to DCS.

    Pilot Model

    Development Progress

    Hero2.png

We are keen to share the development progress on our new F/A-18C Hornet pilot model. Texturing of all components has been completed and it is now being animated. This will be an authentic recreation of a mid-2000s US Navy Hornet pilot with all of the associated gear and more life-like animations.

We are also working on adding cockpit view F-16C and A-10C II pilots, as well as improving Mi-24P and AH-64D crew animations.

    RealSimulator

    Hardware

    Hero3.png

Introducing the new FSSB-R3L MKII “ULTRA”. This force-sensing flight control system allows you to connect any of the Realsimulator or Thrustmaster grips, and it represents the same displacement and feeling of a real F-16 flight stick. It delivers the same amazing precision and smoothness, found in a real Viper.

    Hero4.png

Based on its professional force sensor technology, it is in use with prestigious organizations like the US Navy test pilot school, Australian Royal Air Force test pilot school, French test pilot school, and others.

    Hero5.png

Since the launch in 2006 of the R1 and R2 bases, which were the first force sensor bases available for the simulation game market, the development and manufacturing of these high-grade force flight controllers has evolved over the past 16 years. This new Realsimulator device has been tested by a beta group of real test pilots and simulation enthusiasts to tune the feel of the new FSSB R3 MKII “ULTRA”. They have confirmed that the new sensor base is smoother and more precise.

We encourage you to check it out for yourselves on the Realsimulator website. https://realsimulator.com

Be Afraid Of the Dark (Part 1)

    F-15E Digital Book

    Hero2.jpg

Be Afraid of the Dark (Part 1) tells the story of the F-15E Strike Eagle’s inception, development, entry into service and operational history up to 2002 (Suite 3E standard).

Based on extensive original research at Boeing’s historical archives, interviews with the men and women who turned the idea of an air-to-ground optimised Eagle into a reality, and access to the front-line crews who rode the aircraft into combat between 1990 and 2002, the book totals 100,000 words of insight, technical discussion and anecdote, all gloriously illustrated by 150 colour images.

This impressive book was authored by Steve Davies, a highly reputed military aerospace defence writer, host of the 10 Percent True podcast, and occasional co-author and contributor to DCS campaigns. Steve has revised portions of the original text and re-imagined the design of the book for this unique partnership between 10 Percent True, RAZBAM and Eagle Dynamics, and we hope it makes your experience of flying the mighty Strike Eagle even richer and more fulfilling.

Steve plans to revisit the text to include F-15E developments and operations between 2003 and 2023. This will be available in time through his website as Be Afraid of the Dark (Part 2).

    Hero2.png

The various cooling systems are now better connected to the new damage model, giving new options for correct engine and systems management after being hit. For example, if one of the two radiators in the Bf-109 is punctured, it can be cut off with a special valve, and then the system can keep functioning with half the effectiveness but still pressurized. The new coolant system means that if there is a puncture towards the upper part of the coolant tank, they depressurise to atmospheric and thus with a low boiling temperature. The visual steam effect size now naturally depends on the type of leakage, either from a safety valve or from a bullet hole.

Another new feature is a new model for bulk boiling occurring when the system is depressurized, and its temperature is higher than the boiling temperature for the ambient pressure. The coolant flow now depends on the system’s temperature and pressure, the total area of all bullet holes and the ambient pressure.

A small but pleasant addition is different kinds of available coolants, from pure water to a winter type coolant with their different physical parameters.

The new DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark 3 adds great new features that include: Igla air-to-air missiles that significantly expands the Ka-50’s combat capabilities against other aircraft and the new Onboard Defense System (ODS) that detects and warns you of incoming missiles. Also, for the first time in DCS, a physical model of the Inertial Navigation System (INS) has been implemented that includes alignment before the flight, drift error accumulation, and the ability to correct according to preset fixpoints. For more details, please read the Black Shark 3 White Paper.

    Hero3.png

The Ka-50 Black Shark 3 is based on the helicopter factory number 8798000025, Serial number 00-05. This particular aircraft was completed on June 18, 1990 and became the standard for Ka-50 mass production. A variety of historically accurate liveries are included.

A special Air Strike Group of two Ka-50s (No. 24 and 25) and a C2 Ka-29 took part in Combat Operations in Chechnya from late 2000 to early 2001.  In those engagements, the Ka-50s had standard camo skins with side numbers, but no country markings. That skin was intended to appear as neutral, but at the MAKS-2003 airshow at Zhukovsky, the skin was repainted with country markings and yellow side number 25 on each side.

The Black Shark skin helicopter was fielded by the 344th Army Aviation Combat and Training Center at Torzhok in 1995. By the end of 1996, it was painted black with a shark tail and mouth. Ka-50 helicopters were frequent guests at many exhibitions and air shows. That’s why there are a wide array of airshow skins. We present two of these to you; the “Werewolf” and the “Black Shark” for the No. 18, commissioned July 1, 1991.
