  1. These mountains look even crazier than the ones in Georgia...
  2. Iran doesn't operate Ka-50s AFAIK. If you want to create an Iranian skin you could probably use the brownish one as a template and add Iranian markings. If you're after desert terrain there is the Nevada terrain available at lockonfiles.com, and there's an early WIP Afghanistan terrain not yet released. There are also tools for you to make your own map of the Persian Gulf region available in the eagle wiki.
  3. Yep I can think of entire continental areas to model: East Asia for instance with China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Another would be the entire Middle East from Israel to Iran and south towards the Gulf of Oman. Actually if ED ever was interested in some good resolution maps to use globally here is something I've found: http://www.resmap.com/products/products_L7_tc.html
  4. Is this because 32 Bit operating systems can only use 2 GB of RAM? (Or 3GB with the Windows XP 3GB switch?) Maybe in the future DCS can make the move to 64 bit and allow for larger maps.
  5. I think if you really want a map for long distances, an island hopping map like the Ryukyu, Aleutian, or Spratly islands would be ideal because of the low object count and abundance of water.
  6. The actual map displayed in DCS/LOMAC FC is actually closer to 800km x 1100km as it encompases the entire Black Sea Region. The detailed map is finite though because of the large number of objects like rivers, roads, buildings, farms, airbases, etc so its comfined to mostly Russia and Georgia. I agree there should be support for larger maps, but I'm comfortable with having a map pulldown list like in IL-2. In older games like Janes F-15, the maps were so large that some flights took 5+ hours... I'm not sure how many of us have that much time to devote on a weekend with real life obligations ;)
  7. Well at least the Russians try to write English mission briefings. When was the last time we wrote Russian missions for them?
  8. 500km x 500km seems to be the limit for moderately object dense maps ATM.
  9. Nothing is unrealistic in this world. 30 years ago nobody would have every expected NATO based in Iraq and Afghanistan either.
  10. Will not be ready for a while, the map is quite large.
  11. Some low altitude shots :)
  12. Glowing Amraam and Fahrenheit are going to do some movies once it is ready.
  13. I am working on perfecting the satellite imagery now.
  14. Yeah the noise texture really is important!
  15. USAF F-15E pilot of Indian Descent. USAF T-38 pilot of Thai descent.
  16. Do I have to rebuy it to download it again?
  17. Nice lights Hawg, now the real question is when will we get to buzz the Strip ;)
  18. "You want it done fast, or do you want it done right?"
  19. I tried a 4096x4096 NOISE_1.bmp... horrendous frames per second. I noticed you guys used 2048x2048, you think that's the best the engine can handle right now? I hope with the more optimized code in FC 2.0, the engine can handle higher terrain noise textures because there is a huge improvement in the sense of speed at low level with higher detail.
  20. Congrats on getting it fixed! :)
  21. 3rd party terrain tools are out already for DCS and FC...
  22. Well I built mine using the one in the wiki word lesson not the 26 mb one so I'm wondering if the more detailed dem info would make FC run slower..
  23. Any performance hits ingame?
