  1. I have tried various curves, none and very gradual- 1) very small change near the center of the stick 2) very small throttle near center (200 - 220 knots IAS) I don't use any rudder. Yes, I'm overshooting on the speed and roll. I've known that since day one. Example: I start to get off the boom center to the right, a little left control, plane still moving right, a little left control, plane still moving right, a little more, plane still moving right. I'm now at the boom limits with plane still moving right. A little more left aileron, plane starts moving left. I start small right movements, everything continues to behave as above with no sense of control, then I'm off the boom to the left and disconnected. I can see the results of my inputs as as I try to compensate. Although the rolling is a problem, the speed control is worse. I'm pushing against the boom stops or I'm disconnecting. Staying in the center is impossible, even if my speed indicator shows that my speed hasn't changed. Example: Connect to the boom at estimated tanker speed 270 ground (based on intercept and looking at the mission in the editor. I do everything I can to hold the 270 but I'm collapsing the boom. I try to back off and see the boom unwinding. Speed indicator still shows I'm 270 ground and a moment later, I'm disconnected. It doesn't help that the speed indicator is rounding to the nearest knot, so I could be 269.6 - 270.4. Now if I had a tanker track 150 miles on a side, maybe... but that's not typical in the game. I'm not likely to get a long, perfect weather track in a campaign or the missions that require a refuel near start or end. -Pv-
  2. I started reading this thread because I also had trouble with the EAC activation and when I realized I was just not waiting long enough for the align before activating the switches that depended on it, then problem solved. I use acceleration (contrl-z) to get through the timeout quicker. -Pv-
  3. There's no SAS damping when I fly the plane. As soon as the door is open, damping goes out the window and the plane flies like a kite. If I didn't try to adjust L+R, I wouldn't stay on the boom even the short time I do. I'm not using the Warthog stick which is too expensive for me, but I am using a fairly expensive one (Saitek X65.) Once I'm on the boom, if I could cut ALL controller sensitivities in half (like the Space Shuttle DAP) I think I would not have any trouble. -Pv-
  4. There are unclear items in your post: "update firmware" You mean drivers? When you click on driver update for the driver properties, an update will not happen if the MICROSOFT driver server doesn't store a driver for your device, or doesn't have a newer one in their database. That's doesn't mean an update is not available. You should check the website for the manufacturer for your device. That the throttle works, but your stick does not, sounds suspicious. They use the same driver. Do you have another game besides Warthog to try? Have you tried the free plane in DCS World to make sure it's not your A10 messed up but your controller is OK? 1) You need to tell us the make and model of your controller and operating system with hardware specs. 2) You need to provide us the link to the forum thread where other people have tried to help you so we don't cover all the same ground again. Also, have you started up your controller configuration software from the task bar and moved your joystick around, clicked the buttons, etc to see what works and what doesn't outside DCS World? -Pv-
  5. As with you, pitch for me isn't as much of a problem as bank and throttle. Coupled with the lack of boom connection stability and throttle control not being fine enough, keeping yaw under control too is just too much. -Pv-
  6. The A10C in DCS world is much better than the stand alone and is constantly improving. It costs you nothing to change. Sticking with the stand-alone means you don't know what you're missing. -Pv-
  7. The keyboard throttle implementation is too course to be practical as the only engine power control. A single tap will change the RPM by 10% which is too much. I cannot image trying to use the hotas throttle for only idle and max. Pulling out of a ground attach dive or bushwacking a hind without the mech throttle would be much more difficult. If you do any AI formation flying, they require about 4X the distance to completely form up than if you used 90% RPM early in the flight. -Pv-
  8. Yea, the plane crashing into the ground during playback when I got no where near doing so is an immense irritation. -Pv-
  9. It's just a toggle (on-off.) Once I have it activated, I actually use the mouse joystick on my hotas for those times when I do not want to take my thumb off the trim or fire button. I cannot imagine taking my hand off the joystick completely (not using the hat switch) in favor of the mouse. Since I cannot afford track IR (and if I had it would suffer from too much body movement) the hotas joystick is a nice convenience at times. I suppose you could use the game mapper to assign Lalt-c to the right mouse button? -Pv-
  10. My gut tells me once connected there should be some small resistance to falling off the boom (maintaining connection should become slightly less difficult than obtaining it in the first place.) If this exists in the sim, it's virtually undetectable. -Pv-
  11. It works for me. You might want to view keyboard.html to see if the key combo got deleted or remapped. -Pv-
  12. I have a split throttle. It helps, but not enough. Another complication is the speed setting in the editor is not IAS (as displayed by default when the plane loads up) but ground speed so there is a difference in about 35-40 knots depending on altitude. In a year setting controller curves, what works in combat where agility is needed doesn't work in refueling where finesse is needed. Not to mention working to get close to pre-contact, opening the fuel door and having everything I've done to that point thrown out the window, so the door needs to be opened a great distance away while setting up speed trimming. In nearly 25 years of simming, I've found real world charts and specs often go out the window and are an exercise in "I know more than you do" and the sim pilot really ends up having to discover by trial and error what REALLY WORKS within the context of the computer program regardless.
  13. You can replay your flight immediately after Esc from the 3D sim without saving. I have not had any trouble with that and you can watch it over and over. -Pv-
  14. If the speed at which the A-10 is most successful is so critical, this pretty much rules out success as it's unlikely the current crop of practice missions are going to work without editing. The likelihood these perfect conditions are going to be used in the sim by combat mission tankers within missions and campaigns is even more unlikely to me. The more I work with this, the more likely I'll avoid tanking altogether considering the ratio of tanking maneuver time VS combat time. I know in real life pilots spend more time in getting to-from and tanking than patrol and combat, but I do not have eight hours a day for years (as pilots in training are getting paid to spend doing this, and they die or wash out if they do not.) I was pretty good at tanking in Falcon4 but this sim just does not have the fine control necessary. My throttle doesn't even have to move for the speed to change unrecoverably. If I breathe the speed changes by two knots. -Pv
  15. A Google search would seem to indicate it's available from multiple locations. -Pv-
  16. I thought the code was requesting the wrong damage model at times, or the correct one it's requesting doesn't exist, but to complicate it, the damage model knows there are no tires based on the landing characteristic, so the error is real subtle- the loss of all three tires when there isn't an obvious reason for that to happen, or this is a damage model that has no practical use in the game.
  17. I've spent over 30 hours and over a year trying to refuel. I have a $150 joystick. I've also watched all the vids and run all the refuel training missions. My problem is no matter I use the joystick throttle or key throttle, neither of them is fine enough to keep from collapsing or backing off the boom once I get connected, and the trim/lift problems these large speed changes cause when all I do is tap the controls and not even move them enough to feel the movement. The key controls are not fine enough. Control of the sim is just too course for me and the constraints placed on the sim. -Pv-
  18. I haven't operated in or out of Sochi for a long time, so for me, three missing tires is unassociated with airfield. Most of my recent missions have been out of Lochini. -Pv-
  19. This problem isn't tire damage from take offs or landings. This is combat damage. Take off = Wheels intact and retracted. Mission combat damage of any kind, anything from CRT to fuel leaks. Myself AND AI set up for landing and lower the gear. Three Green. Struts are down. There are three struts with NO TIRES ATTACHED. Not popped, torn, or deflated. No tires at all (not even shreds) just the brake disks. I land with no tires and plane screeches to an immediate halt. If I take no damage in a mission, all is fine and I land with no tire damage. -Pv-
  20. Generated a few more with opfor fighters set to min and friendlies set to max. 8 F16 swooped in firing a wall of missiles. None hit. The two Mig 29s shot down every friendly plane within about two minutes. Doesn't seem right. No more Fast Missions for me. -Pv-
  21. Three gone tires every time is what's getting me. -Pv-
  22. I've noticed lately that for myself and A-10 AI, even minor damage often (if not always) results in no wheels at all when the gear is lowered (empty struts.) The AI will land and taxi normally (I suppose that's a good thing to not permanently block a runway.) As for myself, this results in a landing where the plane screeches to a stop almost immediately and there is no way to vacate the runway (which is understood.) I thought it was odd that after recent automatic updates, this type of damage now seems common (if not predominant.) Is this supposed to model shells penetrating the fuselage deflating all the tires, or is this an unintended bug? -Pv-
  23. "you often get some pretty hard if not impossible missions regardless of difficulty setting" This confirms others got the same impression I do. I'm aware of the "Instant Actions" and agree they are very good for training. Being canned, I was hoping the random generator would provide more interest, but it seems very limited in its capability (only kinda works when dumbed down to lowest optional settings.) -Pv-
  24. I'm at the point in skill that I can call up the appropriate weapon and get it off the rails onto target. I don't have the finesse of all the battlefield awareness, and all the junk packed into the CDU. When I fly Fast Mission Easy, Airborne, I'm instantly thrown into the center of battle with Migs having air superiority. Any CAP that exists, is shot down within two minutes, leaving Migs shooting up all remaining ground attack aircraft. I have tried these tactics: 1) Charge straight in while Migs are engaged with ATA and try to pick off the 1st ground target I can find and escape. Result: The Migs have battlefield dominance by the time I get to the front lines and I'm jumped by multiple bogies. 2) Instantly reverse, extend and come back around with ATA enabled and try to help thin out the Migs by taking one or two out myself. Result: By the time I've dropped a Mig, they have air dominance and I cannot disengage. 3) Reverse and extend back behind my AA/SAM defenses and try to wait out the air battle while picking off nearby intruders and sneak in to ground attack. Result: The Migs attain air dominance within 2 minutes of the battle and enemy lines are unapproachable. 4) Instantly reverse, extend and land. Result: I get medals for flight time. If this is EASY mode, I hate to imagine MED or HARD. Fast Mission seems a waste of UI space. -Pv-
  25. When you call the JTAC again for another task, he'll decide if your current weapon load is acceptable to attack the same target or another target. If you don't meet the requirement, he'll send you home. -Pv-
