Memory advantage 8 GIG vs 16 GIG?
Sappo replied to Fakum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Just upgraded myself, also went with 16gb For the price of RAM (now) there is zero reason not to, we're talking $30-40 difference between a 8gb kit and 16gb kit -
Frositken, Holy heck mate... I agree with 100% of that actually! Well worded. And yes it is an open public forum, if you are going to advertise a product on ANOTHER companys product page (basically the same as going on Apples forums and posting "Hey look at this sweet new tablet I just released... only $29.99") , expect some flak. That being said, IF I owned an ipad (never will) I would probably buy this. Since I don't, I am interested in other versions for my specific tablet. Don't like the criticism ? Jog on

Good to see apps being developed for this game, but I echo the comments; 1) A bit too much $ , I understand it is a tough job to develop and release these things, and for a very small section of the gaming world. I would still have a hard time commiting that much cash for something with such a limited use 2) Port to other platforms. I have no intention of joining the ihoard

Yes I believe so. Forgot about HELIOS Are they listed somewhere already? I just know a newbie coming on here would have a heck of time finding all the resources available
-
Would it be possible to have a sticky at the top, with a listing of the current and in-production packages available for us? Off the top of my head I can think of; Hawgtouch IControl TARS DCSCoPilot I know we have one for controller profiles, but am kind of lost on the options available for me when it comes to alternate input devices :)

Nice video... I used to love flying in FSX... but it seemed like for every 30 minutes of good smooth flight time, it was 1-2 hours of crashing, tweaking, alt-tabbing, crashing... etc Also that video makes me wish DCS A-10 had nice airports... ours are so desolate and 'painted on' looking, plus the lighting sucks. :(

HawgTouch - Free Panels & Gauges for A-10C
Sappo replied to ClearDark's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Excellent I will do all the testing if need be... I'll install and setup the tablet for development when I get home. Also is C# different from C and C++? -
HawgTouch - Free Panels & Gauges for A-10C
Sappo replied to ClearDark's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
OS is proprietary Blackberry , OS1 - with OS2 coming in February. 1ghz dual-core cpu, 1gb ram, 7" touch-screen etc. This is the developer link; http://us.blackberry.com/developers/ Notice it is possible to code for C-C++, Adobe, HTML, Android, and Java. If I may inquire, what is your program built on? I am looking into installing the development tools myself... but have very little experience in coding apart from some tinkering over 10 years ago :) -

HawgTouch - Free Panels & Gauges for A-10C
Sappo replied to ClearDark's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well got the playbook... What info do you need ? How can we get started on porting this bad-boy :D -
THanks for the update Not 100% sure I like the direction the newsletter is going with the inclusion of 'free' patches and 'paid-for-addons' But heck any news is good news... Just hoping we don't have to start paying for every new skin and feature added (ala modern warfare series)
-
Also noticed the same problem, but not 100% of the time I also alt-tab out often to check TS or use the TARS panel. Maybe 30% of the time when going back into game its as if everything has a contrasting layer over it, the whole screen... as if someone cranked the Gamma up too far. Anyways, I will try the posted suggestion of disabling the Aero peek now!

WIP DCS A-10C and Teamspeak 3 Integration
Sappo replied to Headspace's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Incase anyone hasn't noticed already.. the new patch requires you to 'uninstall' and 'reinstall' the TARS plugin to A-10 By this I mean go into the TARS control panel, click A-10... uncheck Install Tars once, and then check it back again to re-install the files. Also make sure the game is closed when you do this. Myself and 2-3 other people all had to do this after finding out the patch broke the links between TARS and A-10 -
Well you do good work it seems, very sound design and well thought out. I just wish I had the room / time / budget to build something of my own! Perhaps some day in the future when I have a man-cave to devote to the finer aspects of life.

Looks great! Let me give you a scenario and see if you can help. Is it at all possible to use my Blackberry Playbook with this? I am thinking (when I get it this weekend) ... to use the citrix client , to remotely control my laptop, which will be running Helios. Have you any thoughts on performance and or screen lag with this choice? I know I have seen videos of the Playbook running a citrix client to a desktop, with absolute smooth video playback... but not sure how it will handle the Helios and touch-screen app.

Uhhh.. oh wow. You certainly are building one impressive pit! I take it you are in some sort of trade involving machining / engineering? Once again , very impressive. Also I must ask... what chair is that you have ? It looks very comfortable.

TrackIR tip for less annoying behavior
Sappo replied to wolfstriked's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Another good tip, is make sure the camera portion of the TrackIR is angled to exclude any windows (if possible) Often times even just a TINY bit of light reflecting on the backwall behind my head will cause the TrackIR to think it is a tracking spot I've gotten fairly used to cranking my head around just the right amount to read the CDU panel or radio settings -
Also a great suggestion, have a selection window pop up when you choose your plane, Allows you to load any skin on your HDD Maybe even have a small repository directory allocated to each game folder, so the game automatically downloads other players custom skins in a read-only format.

Aye, not being able to change settings - key configs while ingame is a massive step back ... I have flown with people before who had a glitch (pinky switch was set incorrectly in the sim) and his lighting was not working as a result, however he did not have the pinky switch set on his HOTAS, AND we both had no idea what the defaults might be for keyboard operation.... Of course to change this you must exit the server, close the game, load single player, make the change, close, reload multi, connect, play. I dunno about the rest of you, but that is a round-about and lengthy (5 minutes?) just to change 1 key On a totally different topic, might I suggest if not already... Improved server browser WITH SORTING, and options such as 'Show locked' servers' When I click "PING" I want to have the list sorted Ascending/Descending etc.

DCS CoPilot. New iPhone/iPad app in development
Sappo replied to TigersharkBAS's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Looks great, very nice to see lots of third party apps being created to help fly this sim. I hestitate to say 'play this game' because, we all know it is nowhere near just a game :) Not an I-anything owner myself, does your team have any plans to port or create apps for other devices (ie, blackberry)? -
I love TARS. On that note, does anyone have alternate PTT sounds? I have replaced the default TS PTT sound with one I found, but am still lacking in a realistic mic click when keying in

Well, those low numbers may well change over the holidays I hope. For those not aware, RIM employees are able to order up to 5 devices I believe, starting at $99 for the 16gb tablet and up. Given the holidays right around the corner, and considering that is how I am getting one for christmas (friend of my brother works for RIM), I expect we will see an influx of PlayBook users looking for a possible port of iControl

HawgTouch - Free Panels & Gauges for A-10C
Sappo replied to ClearDark's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well basically if I cannot find some way to load the application natively on the tablet... I will try to remote view a desktop which is already running your software, and hopefully that will not be terribly laggy :) -
HawgTouch - Free Panels & Gauges for A-10C
Sappo replied to ClearDark's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
BlackBerry Playbook, specifically. I only ask because I am getting one for christmas, and would love to use it as a touch-screen monitor ingame. But I would assume it runs a properietary BlackBerry OS... however, I also just saw a link to a Citrix app, which allows you to view/use remote desktops. I am trying to envision a way to use that and login to a 2nd PC that is running HawgTouch
