  1. Wow, may have found something, take a quick look at config/world/world.lua Seems to have burn times associated with each vehicle. I see also what you were talking about how each vehicle is given its own burn time variable(the GM variables). I need something more along the lines of global variables. But insofar, this looks promising. The only problem so far is that these are burn times and I dont think that means smoke effects. So I'll continue looking. Neat stuff anyhow, perhaps we could have ED modify these files in the future so that smoke effects wont last forever and everyone will be able to make larger battles. Oh and found a smoke folder, what program are we supposed to use to read .cfg's, or is it even readable...? Nevermind looks like notepad works just fine... der.
  2. Flags are also used for AI units. You can use them to trigger certain events. If you set a tanker on orbit and give him an end condition, click the "is user" and put in a number, whenever that number(it is really a flag) becomes true, the end condition is triggered and it'll stop orbiting. A lot of the tasks you can assign to AI can be stop/start conditioned in this manner. And being able to couple AI tasking with flags that can be set using triggers there are a lot of possibilities. Once I learned how triggers worked I was happy as a tornado in a trailer park...
  3. Quick question I've probably AAR'd about a hundred times now, none of them logged in my logbook... anyhow is the tanker crew supposed to give you those little cues, like up down left right?? I was wondering cause I've never heard it. Not really a problem or care much anyhow, just wondering....
  4. Yeah I downloaded N++ so I could read and learn your chatIO... which ive used in every mission since... Thanks I'll take a look and let everyone know. See what I cant effectively screw up...
  5. I feel kind of dumb... I downloaded the easter egg mod and i tried to get in a vehicle for like an hour today that crap didnt work for me. I couldnt get into anything...
  6. That was kind of the point. I was happy you didnt say "it cant be done". I was looking for anything other than that. Would this only affect the host? Im intrigued about this file you said I could modify, maybe I could start looking there..... Where?
  7. I'm glad you responded speed, I know if you say it cant be done we're screwed. Im looking forward to that guide, as of now I dont know where to find the functions or environments of this engine, and would easily read this just to be able to figure my way out around lua. I've noticed in the dcs log that smoke "effects" die and then get recreated. Really I just need a way to end the loop as I see it seems to keep running the cycle indefinitely. Maybe there is a time limit but I havent run the server long enough to find out, nor would I benefit from it here. But if it does have a timer of some kind of counter perhaps we can change some variable just for one mission.... Hopefully. Anyhow, thanks for your input.
  8. :helpsmilie:I was wondering if anyone has anything for use as a garbage script? I have a rather large mission Ive been testing the last week and it is really fun, about 60+ pieces of armor take a friendly airfield that is somewhat defended. It gets relatively insane with all the AAA and small arms going back and forth. The game runs relatively smooth on my machine, however it lag spikes with different players. I know I have one option, limit the number of advancing tanks. But of course we can see how that would limit the fun and replay-ability of this mission.:protest: Instead I would like to attempt to limit the graphics. Does anyone know how to clean up smoking vehicles or have some kind of garbage collecting script? Is it possible to add a trigger for each vehicle once dead>deactivate=no more smoke? Going to test today with scenes set to low, traffic off, and anything else I can limit using triggers. Thanks for any help.
  9. Been having this issue pretty randomly since I had both my gtx470 and now my gtx560. Only happens rarely but when it does im usually running a server and i wont restart the game. Restarting the game fixes it, and sometimes rejoining later works too if i can stand to sit around and wait. Turning off the engines and repairing the bird has no effect. Happens usually once every few days or so. Very random. *if i switch IFFCC to test it shows nothing. If switched off and on it still shows up as shown in attached pic. Finally found this thread, no real solution though... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=73437
  10. Honestly I knew that was coming... Thanks anyhow. Not really running a dedicated server, only testing my own stuff, maybe ill throw it in anyhow. No one have an answer to why people jump into a sever take a screenshot then leave? I thought maybe they are checking graphics or testing something...
  11. What is up with people joining a server, taking a screenshot then leaving? About half an hour ago I saw two people come into the server with the usual signs of this and i said plz dont take screenshots and leave. Play or leave. Then about ten seconds later my server crashed. The other person left just before so it must have been something "jebus" did. If I took a guess I would say he went into pool and tried kicking me. But the logs were empty so I have no clue. Anyone wanna shed some light on this, maybe provide info on how to counter or stop users from being able to do it?
  12. Yeah it was a 3, dual launchers... for some reason after that last shot I just couldnt seem to trim her out... Maybe something I need to look into...
  13. its worth checking out... for the first time I melted the CICU the other day, I was teaching someone to create cdu entries... that was retarded...
  14. Doing a little sam engagement zone testing and such and after recording my data i chose to watch the carnage. The damage in all its glory.... Incredible blurring and explosion effects. I was watching when the missiles launched, when they left the rack it was so loud and caught me off guard that I actually jumped. Like the kinda jump the lil lady does at scary movies...
  15. no hes saying the APU must be running, in order to create the airflow needed to turn the turbines, but you dont necessarily need the electrical power it provides.... I think...
  16. Someone just told me the other day you could run the mission in MP and edit it in the GUI at the same time. Holy crap, I felt like I just stepped out of the 1980's. It made testing, edit, and debugging so much faster.
  17. yeah ive already done some heavy testing on it, the bsod tells me nothing because the failure happens in such a fashion that it locks up the cpu before it can even generate a .dmp. I can troubleshoot driver and .dmp files fairly easily thanks to this guide> http://clintboessen.blogspot.com/2009/12/how-to-analyze-dump-file.html an invaluable guide for debug... but yeah havent got it in a few days, perhaps some left over bad code or the memory or bios/cpu flag wasnt clearing after the video card when feet up on me... Who knows.
  18. I'll look into it thanks. Wouldnt know havent played much besides this. And I played last night, Im not quite sure which was better my 470 or my 560. Both look beautiful, full high settings, everything on, high vis, full clutter, mirrors.... My girl was giving me grief for spending the money... I made her play it today.. lol... She was like wow, I think im sick..... *shes never used a trackir....
  19. Dragon thats an awesome screenshot. That would be something to be a part of. Incredible.. My wow moment happened the first time I HAD to refuel in SP. I did some CAS with FAC successful and was on station for a while. I checked out to go pick up some fuel as I was a long way from home and I was looking a bit bingo in case of emergency. So i cruise up to the tanker, just winging it since Id never really done it.... So the wow comes when somehow I manage to tap the boom wrong and I spin over and watch in horror as the tanker goes into divebomb kamikaze mode and my hopes of returning home safe explode in a million pieces.... It was about 1:30 seconds of wow as I watched in horror... lol. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu*
  20. Video killed the radio star, and DCS A10 killed my video card. Last night on my server I experienced some kind of never seen before crash. Shutdown the whole computer. Took me a long time to run diagnostics and figure out I had a video card failure, and that it was not heat, or power dependent. Probably a ramdac or another memory chip problem as it only crashed after I tried to use a bit(128Mb+) of video memory. So Ive downupgraded to a 560 Ti SC. Also getting a semi recurrent "machine check exception" bsod, which usually means a driver is locking or there is an imminent hardware failure. Ram looks good, HDD's are solid, cpu flew through diagnostics but I have yet to find a way to test the mobo and the PS, Im not about to go buy a dmm so im kinda screwed there. (if anyone knows of available software to monitor voltages, and write to dump files give me a heads up please..) Im not attributing this to a game fault, as I feel it was a video card failure, and had relatively nothing to do with the software in address. Im just making this post in case others have a random crash and have to, like me, revert back to safe mode and go into super gopher troubleshooting mode... Ive had video card failures before but usually it wipes out the GPU. This was new. See you all back in the servers... Ill post back here later after Ive seen the performance of the sim with the 560, for any of you looking to upgrade to the series..
  21. Ive checked through literally a billion aerial refueling threads... It seems like the topic that just keeps on giving... Anyhow Ive been doin a lot of it in MP lately, is there a max that shell take from the tanker or is it possible to top the tanks? I have probably refueled about 5 times in a couple days and she never seems to take much more than 4K. Just now I was hooked up for about a minute and I just watched as it sat on 4K, latched and solid... Getting from 2000 or less to 4000 has no problems. It refuels just fine when Im getting low. but an extra 1000 or so could really help... Any ideas?
  22. I'll be hosting a mission I made using Speed and Druids scripts. Its extremely random and requires a lot of SEAD, Strike teamwork. It should be up for the next couple of days while I test. It should be released shortly. Estimated time of completion with competent pilots is looking like about 2-3 hours. Its MP8, and obviously labeled in the list, teamspeak available. Come check it out! See you in the air!:pilotfly: -Wild
  23. lol that sounds like the navy I know....
  24. Druid, I am using your random table script and I have a question. Say I set up a few groups/locations to be triggered at the beginning of my mission. Say if group1 activates, flag 500 goes on, group2 is flag 501 and so on... Can I assign a variable to them so that the task will select whichever group went active? Somehow automatically select the active group so other scripts know which coordinates to broadcast...? I guess Im looking for something like: Tank1={unit1,unit2,unit3.....} Tank2={ '' } Tank3={ '' } if flag#=0, flag#+1 for flag500, flag501, flag502 taskname=flag# set task 1= "taskname or maybe just a getvariablename statement of somekind, but I would have to associate the flag to the specific group, i.e. flag501=tank1, then it would be get flag#, settask1=flag#..... I still would have no way to pass on the group id to speeds script, but I could just write seperate radio messages for each flag, which is perfectly fine. sorta.... lol. I dont know the language for this game, yet. obviously...
  25. I agree, Although the merit of winter IMC is proven. I think you can even set it up to far past CAT II. Im actually doing some testing with that today and gonna do some ILS heads down. You get a bit of rain in fall too. Depending of course.
