My personal recommendation is to just buy the full version from ED directly so they get all the profits.

When you install the software from Steam, the BS1 sim puts a Serial Number in your registry. Run regedit and you can find it. When you install the BS2 upgrade, it will look for the BS1 Serial Number in the registry. This will allow you to use the BS2 upgrade.

I am more than willing to wait for the new map engine. With ED's history, it will be fantastic. Imagine if they're coding it to take advantage of multi-threaded processors. AMD has recently come out with an 8 core CPU that runs natively at 4GHz. That's a lot of power available if all cores are used. I'm thinking about building a dedicated LAN server for DCS World. My hardware choices will be made around this topic.

I'll hold my crotch, but not my breath.

Why am I *still* having problems clicking on the QUIT menu?
Blarney replied to GregP's topic in General Questions
I was having the same issue a few updates ago, I want to say it was in 1.2.1. But now, it's gone. Luck? Maybe... I did change my Windows 7 theme to 'Standard'. I have an actual Start button at the bottom left, and everything is in the same format as XP. Not sure if that had anything to do with the fix, but it's the only change I can think of that I made. -
I really hope ED is considering implementing multi-threading in a future World update. I don't see CPUs getting much past 5GHz, even with overclocking, anytime soon. However, having the workload spread over 6 cores at ~4GHz would be Phenominal. Get it...Phenominal...6 Cores... Well, 90% of the time, my jokes are for me anyway. :megalol:

Yeah, we never had to use any additional software. I was just asking to see if anyone realized a performance boost on the clients when using a dedicated server PC that exclusively ran 'The World' on the LAN.
-
I guess what I'm really asking is if anyone who has tried using a dedicated LAN server PC (one that is used to load a mission and everyone playing connects to it), have you seen better/smoother game play on the clients? Does the addition of a dedicated server on your LAN make the game better for players? Does the off-loading of the server tasks onto a dedicated server machine make the sim better for the clients on the LAN? I know the LAN works because we have tried it. Just wondering if adding a dedicated server PC makes a difference. Thanks.

Every now and then, a few friends and I like to get together, bring our PCs, connect to the router and play some 'face to face' DCS World. Currently we have 4 computers for 4 players, with one person also acting as the server. I'm thinking about building a new PC and using the my old one as a dedicated server for the group of us. So 5 PCs for 4 players. Has anyone tried this yet? I was hoping a dedicated server would take a big processing load off of the clients for hopefully better frame rates and a smoother sim. Just wondering what other people's experiences were with setting up a LAN Client/Server configuration. Thanks.

Whether I buy it or not, I say EXCELLENT work ED!! The F-15C looks fantastic, both inside and out. All your work, at every level of fidelity, is always top notch and only getting better. For those in the community who are not that interested in FC3, vote with your money and don't buy it. But please, no more complaining. The best votes are always cast with dollars (or your local monetary unit) and/or feet.

So I took the Ka-50 out for some target practice, starting a Novorossiysk airfield. Destroyed the targets and flew back. I decided to provide the local fans with a surprise landing demonstration at the Football stadium and proceeded to land at midfield. After landing, I ejected out of the aircraft while it was still running. As the pilot came down, he continued through the actual ball field and stopped at what would be ground level, below the field level. I could look around and see the Ka-50 now above me. I could zoom out above the pilot and the field would appear and disappear as I crossed over the field level. It was definitely an interesting point of view, looking up at the Ka-50 from what was apparently the basement of the stadium.:)

Can either of you tell me how to find the Activation Serial Number when you purchase from Steam? And, have you tried installing the software from the DCS download while using the Serial Number given by Steam?
-
Nate, while we're on the topic, does a purchase from STEAM give you a Serial Number? Can you then use it to download and install right from the DCS site? I'd much rather use the DCS software download. Also, any insight as to why DCS doesn't offer the same sale?

Serial numbers management for multiplayer (NOT StarForce!)
Blarney replied to Tez's topic in Forum and Site Issues
I just used Tez's link and it worked perfectly. I used shadowze's method, but did not install anything. 1.) Logged into account1 at the DCS Website and unbound the serial number. 2.) Logged out. 3.) Started A-10 Multiplayer v1.1.1.1, and logged in as account2. 4.) logged out. 5.) Logged into account2 at the DCS Website and both serial numbers were now there! Thanks! -
Got it, and I completely understand the 'takes time' thing. I was just wondering if it was being considered or if I was missing something. Thanks. This forum is amazing. Questions answerd in 20 minutes!!

I had a question about future updates to DCS World. In the past, DCS has always recommended doing an uninstall and reinstall of all their products when upgrading. My question with DCS World is, if I have a bunch of Modules plugged into DCS World (Ka-50, A-10C, P-51D, Combined Arms, etc.) won't it be a nightmare to have to reinstall EVERYTHING everytime an upgrade is released? DCS has given us patches before, but are they working on a better, more reliable patching method that they themselves are confident with? Just looking ahead, since my plans are basically to collect DCS Modules.

I have to agree with everything said so far. TrackIR5 adds so much in terms of immersion into the flight sim experience that it has become essential in my opinion. No more using a hat switch to direct your view, just simply turn your head. I have the Track Clip Pro as well and I find the response to my head movements are better than just using the standard hat clip. Worth every penny (or locally used monetary unit.) I can further add that customer service at Natural Point is great. I had originally received a track clip pro with a bad wire connection, and would lose connection as I turned my head. I contacted them and they immediately sent me a new one. No questions asked. Great service on a great product.

45tycoon - you have to open ports within your router to be able to see your missions on the server. I had the same problem. For some reason it works without opening a port the first time, then doesn't after a second try.
-
Chchildfan, how are you able to map two functions to the same axis? It looks like you have toe brakes and HOTAS slew mapped to the same axis. Don't you get a conflict?
-
Ok. I think I understand. I've been searching through all the axis listed in the A-10C controls and trying to move the toe brake for each one, trying to find what axis moves when I press the toe brakes. To no avail. Needless to say, I have a bunch to learn all around. Certainly appreciate the help.
-
I have the Pro Combat Rudder Pedals as well, but I can't find the right axis that A-10C sees as the the toe Brakes. What axis is everyone mapping the toe brakes to for them to work properly?
-
And with so many buttons and switches, I can map everything I need to and then some. I can also usually get pretty close to the set up of the real thing. Obviously nothing can beat the realism of the Thrustmaster Warthog for the A-10C, but then the accuracy ends there. If you use the Thrustmaster for BlackShark you're in the same boat as the X-65F with the BlackShark. The X-65F has plenty of versatility for upcoming sims and DCS supports it.
-
I have the X-65F and use it with BlackShark. I have to admit, it did take a while to get used to. With a traditional "moving" stick, you can get a real feeling of how far you are pushing the stick in any direction and can hold the stick in that position. With the X-65F you have to get used to maintaining a consistent levle of pressure as opposed to holding the stick in the same place. Doing this took a lot of practice on my part. However, now that I've taught myself this difference, and practiced, practiced, practiced, I would not want to use another stick. It all becomes second nature now and without the physical movement of the stick I can "feel" how the aircraft is going to react without thinking baout how I'm moving the stick. I hope this makes sense. Like I said it took a while to get really used to it (3 months?), but after I did, I would not want to switch back.
