Oh yea, I understand that Weta43, the idea of using some of these vehicles even if just in 1st person simplified mode made me look for more info on them, hence the video. The important thing is that this addon is going to be a lot of fun. :D
-
I'm interested in trying this mod out too. I have a pretty high end machine, wouldn't mind seeing how well it can render terrain like that shown. :D Will this mod work with DCS World with A-10C or the upcomming Combined Arms addon?
-
I'm pretty intrigued about trying out an AA unit in Combined arms. Check out this video from the German company that produces the Gepard Flakpanzer vehicle. I had no idea so much was going on inside that vehicle.... Can engage surface and air units, and the thing can slap on a few guided missiles too?? There's some footage in there of the simulator training too. Pretty neat stuff!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BukkrjTc370

I felt the same way, but actually settled on the "HDR Warm" setting and it seems or at least looks more natural to me in the sim.

Hate to bring this thread back from the dead, but I was wondering the same thing. Any way to bring back the bulletholes and small craters from my 30mm cannon and other weapons?
-
Thanks for that detailed info WildBillKelsoe, I understand it now. :D
-
Thanks for that WildBillKensoe, but I'm not familiar with using my wingmen very effectively yet. How exactly do I use the wingman to hook SPI and let him abort? I don't know what hook SPI means lol. I tend to play the quick mission generator missions, and sometimes I don't get a dedicated SEAD flight to work with. Plus it's a fun challenge to try to deal with such potent AA threats.

Oh man yes!! THE GUN!!, I can't believe how fun it is to strafe and actually be able to knock out T-80's. I found I need to fire about 0.5 miles and less from them, at the sides and top/rear, if they aren't damaged though it takes about a 3 sec. burst for me to make sure it's a kill in one pass. T-72's I start firing at 0.7 down to 0.5 miles or less and only use about a 1 sec burst at the same angles. They are much easier to kill than the T-80's This PAC system is absolutely genius in it's simplicity!!! I love the A-10C :pilotfly: Rusty, you can knock out the tanks with the CBU-87, but depending on the situation, like tightly packed colums going down a road or advancing on the front line close together, go with a low burst altitude and low or no rpm setting to get the most number of bomblets in the target area to help destroy the tanks. Drop two for twice the fun! It can be done, and it's very satisfying when you do it. Now to figure out how to take care of the Tunguska while flying under 3000 feet...... Without losing all my wingmen.... Hmmm. Does anyone know if there any plans for us to get the mine dispensing CBU-89?

Very cool noc_orthodontist, I appreciate that very much!! I've been having a lot of fun experimenting with the carpet you can lay down with these things, also a lot of fun to just degrade the tanks and come in straffing afterwards. :D

Mentioning the Cobra reminded me of an interesting video I saw: It's literally in your face guncam footage from Cobra's in the 2003 Iraq War. Just look at some of the TOW missile guided shots, man that would be fun to try with a Cobra.
-
So, what was wrong with tanks being able to fire while on the move? Will the offline Campaigns progress again and branch from mission to mission with this patch?
-
Hey Guys, Thanks for all the great suggestions, got to try out some of the different settings you all recommended. I was able to knock out 3 T-72's using the HOF at 500 and RPM at 500 on a colum. Attack was at under 1000 feet, and rather hair raising!! If your aim is good, it's really effective against any soft targets. Didn't get to try on any T-80's though. Very cool, and very fun though. There's a lot of flexibility in the pattern you can create with these, after seeing what the HOF and RPM settings do. I'm actually enjoying them more than the CBU-97. Many Thanks for the assist guys!!

Hey Guys, I had some fun with the CBU-97's for awile, but now I'm trying to get used to the CBU-87 for some tank busting. Can anyone tell me what the best burst altitude or other settings should be to make a very concentrated bomblet pattern on the target? I'm trying to maximize the number of bomblets on enemy vehicle colums on the roads that are close together and in a line. I've been able to use the default settings for spread out vehicles and such, just wanted to increase the chance of disabling tanks moving in tight column.

They both look great to me, where can I download to use in my campaign?? P.S. has anyone made an A-10 skin from the origional Jaws trials?

Recieved my hard copy 11-2-11 from Amazon.com Glad to finally get it too!!

What's the direct link to the Totals thread? Getting ready to set up for 3D on DCS A-10 as well. -

Here's a forum with users using PC games in 3D with different methods, You can try the forums here: http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/ scroll down to the DDD iZ3D and NVidia subforums, perhaps someone can help. I wish this sim would support 3D, it's just perfect for that sort of thing. -
I'm looking for a different solution, but it's related to running A-10C from the video cards HDMI port to dual TVHD OLED displays in a head mounted package. I'm sitting on the fence right now until this thing comes out in a store for me to try out, but having a full 3D 150" screen simulated from 12 feet away HDTV that's 3D capable and can be used with a head tracker might be the simulation experience I've been waiting for. I just hope DCS A-10C and my hardware will work together to run it. Below is the Sony HDTV system I'm referring to. A review I found of it: http://www.thetechgame.com/News/sid=2244/sony-personal-hd-3d-viewer-video-preview.html Anyone know if this thing might work for flight simulators like DCS A-10C? It had two separate 720p OLED displays, and I don't know how that will work with the single HDMI cable, unless the control box they describe does some of the conversion.

Upgrading for A-10C, what do I need?
Invader ZIM replied to Invader ZIM's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I had the same worries, but when your dealing with true 3D and looking at the review of the older version Z800 system being used with Flaming Cliffs it seems like it's pretty good. Link to review at SimHQ is here: http://www.simhq.com/_technology2/technology_080a.html -
Upgrading for A-10C, what do I need?
Invader ZIM replied to Invader ZIM's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Okay, got myself setup with a new system purchase, but still had one more question. How will A-10C work with a true 3D visor goggle setup? Specifically I'm planning to use the Z800 3D Visor at the following link. http://www.3dvisor.com/ Are there any problems with field of view and depth perception when running the sim in full 3D mode at 800x600 resolution with these visors? Didn't want to sink the money into it if it won't work correctly. Thanks! -
Upgrading for A-10C, what do I need?
Invader ZIM replied to Invader ZIM's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for all the info guys, looks like a full upgrade is in order to play with everything maxed out. I had figured on having to get a new system after 5 years anyways. Thanks again for the good advice, much appreciated. -
Upgrading for A-10C, what do I need?
Invader ZIM replied to Invader ZIM's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hey thanks for that info TZeer, I was wondering about my CPU and my mboard ram bottleneck. I figured as long at the CPU was cranking along at over 3GHz that I'd be okay. So it might be better for me to just do a full computer upgrade. Will have to consider this option. Thanks again! -
Hey guys, I'm looking for the best upgrade path for my system to run A-10C at full high settings, both in the graphics and for the large scale quick battle generator and campaigns. Below is my current configuration. Currently using Windows XP 32 bit Motherboard: EVGA 122-CK-NF68-T1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz (Overclocked to 3.4GHz) Moboard RAM: Corsair XMS2 4GB Paired (Four 1G sticks) 240 pin DDR2 SDRAM 800(PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor 300GB 10,000 rpm SATA150 Graphics Card: BFG GeForce GTS 250 with 1GB Video RAM PCI Express x16 socket I didn't know if I wanted to toss out my current computer for something completely new yet, or should I go for the following upgrades to my current system?: Video Card: MSI N580 GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition (3 GB GDDR5 ram onboard) RAM: 8 GB Paired Corsair XMS2 (Four 2 Gig paired sticks) Windows 7 64 bit SSD HD to increase speed in load times of Windows 7 and A-10C? Again, my goal is to be able to run A-10C on a single monitor with full max graphics settings and to be able to play any large battles with the maximum number of friendly and enemy units in game. I go years without an upgrade to my systems but sometimes a sim comes along that's worth it. My game runs fine, and looked great before patch 1.08 came along, but it seems the sim now needs more resources once I got up to 1.09 and I'm hoping that with my upgrades I'll be able to achieve what I wanted and keep my same computer for a few more years. Can anyone tell me if there's any bottlenecks I should watch out for? I haven't really kept up with the technology since I got this machine 5 years ago. Thanks for the help!
