Everything you ever wanted to know about the M1 Abrams
Invader ZIM replied to Invader ZIM's topic in Military and Aviation
Hey thanks guys, just stumbled on it last night and learned a few things myself reading all that. Certainly tough vehicles that keep getting updated with experiences in the field. -
After playing with DCS Combined arms, it sort of inspired me to catch up on some of the details of the ground vehicles. I came across this rather interesting site that explains all of the modifications, ammunition, and almost anything you wanted to read about the M1 and all it's variants. Link is here: http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/abrams.htm Interesting stuff about the 3rd gen depleted uranium round, and the ability to engage targets at 4km plus. And the 2003 Lessons Learned pdf file at the end of the link is quite an interesting read regarding battle conditions the tanks went through. Figured I'd share for other military enthusiasts out there. Also found some good reading from the same author on the T-80 variants: http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/T-80U.htm And T-90S: http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/T-90S.htm

Abrams Main gun calibration, mission and info
Invader ZIM replied to Pikey's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Now that would be awsome!! If they could make it so if you hit the L key for instance to lase what's in the center of the reticle, and the turret would adjust itself automatically to hit that spot. Almost like the real deal. Just need dual axis stabilization and a very high magnification thermal sight lol. -
Abrams Main gun calibration, mission and info

That's brilliant!! And they look great too! Have to agree I'd like a downloadable version of these sights, especially the M1 and the lead computing dot for the AAA systems. -
*raises hand* Ohh!! Ohhh! Pick me! Pick me!! lol :D

Enable Ambient Occlusion!

Thanks for the explanation kyletiernan, really appreciate it!! -
Regarding the T-80's and M1's. Have you tried the same scenario at night? The U.S. tends to use it's advantage in thermal and other night vision optics with it's armored vehicles. Also, don't forget to look at the terrain, find a way to close the distance with your M1's, but keep the T-80's about 3000m away from the M1's. The advantage of the M1's Sabot round is that it traveles faster than the Refleks guided round of the T-80. So even if they see you at 3km and fire first, you and the other M1's actually have time to pinpoint them and knock them out, you'll see the Refleks round either slam into the ground short or explode in air when you hit them. There are still some issues to contend with, but this is a beta, things will get worked out the more we all play and find problems for the team to work on. *Edit* Tried a lot of scenarios with T-80's vs. M1A2 under different weather and times of day. The M1's do always lose against the T-80's at 3km, even when they get to fire first on the T-80's, day or night under good weather conditions. And both T-80's and M1's in stormy weather, while still able to clearly see each other will not engage in combat. Both sides are using "Excellent" crew settings.

Hehe, me too! It really looks nice, plus with CA out and all the improvements in 1.20 things are really looking nice!
-
Thanks for the update rockwelder. I have CA as well, would be nice to restrict the AI from firing through entire forests at each other though.

Enable Ambient Occlusion!
Invader ZIM replied to kyletiernan's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I'm trying to enable this for my DCS World 1.20 version but I keep getting hung up at the part where he says you have to find the DCS Black Shark profile in the top tab. I can't find any DCS profile in that game listing, let alone Black Shark. If I get to that part, I'm still confused on the next part where I add the DCS.exe Which DCS.exe? the DCS World.exe? and Launcher.exe from World? It looks really good and I'd love to try it out. -
Some of the vehicles on both sides need Thermal sights on top of the image intensified sights. Newer image intensifiers on the American and European side (made within the last 10 years) have autogating power supplies and don't exhibit the image flaring and blooming you see from those images.

Noticed the same issue when I watched an AI A-10 drop two CBU-87's. Also noticed this when MLRS were firing and the rockets dropped all their submunitions... Wow!! Really slow performance then. I'm on an overclocked 6 core i7-990x machine running at 4.5GHz with 12 Gig of Overclocked Ram and a 3GB MSI 580 graphics card. When it stops at 1fps something is up lol.

DCS Combined Arms : Sound Mod (vehicle)
Invader ZIM replied to Keshman's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
This is great!! Anything that creates more variety of sounds will help in the ground war with CA. -
When it become available for download?
Invader ZIM replied to 71st_Mastiff's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
I guess it has run it's course. Was a fun ride though, good to see some good natured teasing and humor though from fellow DCS'ers. :D Hey, if it's gonna get locked, might as well make it worthwile in regards to going off topic lol. -

Did someone say steep? -
Man, it is going to be so much fun using all of these vehicles to play in, and command on the map. I call dibs on the Gephard Flakpanzer!! See a truck, 35mm guns take it out... See an IFV, 35mm guns take it out. See a plane, 35mm guns take it out. See a tank, hit it with 35mm guns and then run screaming like a little girl. Serpentine!!! Serpentine!!! :megalol: Thanks for the pictures Wags, always appreciate any info on whats ahead for us, just can't wait for this, as well as the DCS World patch. :)
-
LOL, I hadn't thought of that..... Hmmmm..
-
Any updates on this engine? Looks really promising, especially with Combined Arms coming soon.
-
LOL, gotta love how the mods get involved with the general discussions here. :D
-
LOL, yea, me too. Super concise info there.

Silver Dragon pretty much covered everything it seems regarding naval warfare. I'm a bit of a naval enthusiast too and was playing around with some naval battles in the quck mission and discovered the following: I was playing around with the CG Normandy in a quick mission and put it just off the coastline in DCS World and did the same in a quick mission in A-10C 1.1.1.1 and noticed a big difference in how the ship responded. In A-10C 1.1.1.1 the Aegis was a terror to behold! Simultaneously firing Tomahawks at land targets, and some enemy ships I had placed out at sea. Also firing multiple Harpoon missiles at the ships as well as Standard missiles at air threats. Both 5" guns engaging threats within range inland. Phalanx systems firing on incoming Sunburn missiles fired from the small attack boats. Quite a show!! Well, right up until the point where one of the ships gets hit or sunk then the game crashes. In DCS World, the ship seems to engage Air threats with the Standard missiles, but it never fired any Tomahawks, at anything during the battles. It just seemed to be a lot more lethargic in DCS World. In in some instances, when the sunburn missiles are fired at it, the Phalanx system never tried to engage them. Just wanted to point this out, as having a capable Aegis ship or any ship in this sim modelled more accurately can really change the tactics involved when your flying versus what the ship is doing in DCS World right now, which makes it an easier target.

I dunno, dogs can be fun sometimes. But I'm all for having Combined Arms released as soon as possible. :D :D

I enjoy all the U.S. jets coming along, but what I'd like to see is DCS Su-34.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Invader ZIM replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Out of curiosity, are there any plans for a flyable Su-34 in DCS World? I'm loving the idea of the stuff that's been announced, but sometimes you just want to try something... Hmm, a little different you know what I mean? Saw the huge thread on the Su-34 in the Russian forums, but can't read any of it lol. Figured it would be a fun fast attack plane to add to the library for DCS. -
Man, sure would be nice. Been a long time since playing Jane's F/A-18 to have this plane come around the block again. But to be honest, it's sort of overload the last month or so on how many addons are coming to DCS. Certainly a good thing in my opinion, this sim is starting to become a sort of one stop shop for simulating all things military lol. :D
