  1. Quick question about the OC cards. The mastercard... do I need to buy an input and output connection card to connect the switches up to it, or can I just get the mastercard?
  2. One thing I find interesting. I've never flown to the tanker real life (been in an F-16 when it happened) and I've been in the boomer's spot when an F-16 was refueling. Strange thing is, since the boom is hydraulically operated, the boomer can "fly" the aircraft being refueled (mainly when it's a fighter) in an area of the boom's envelope. Obviously the pilot still needs to be hands on, but the boomer can move them around to keep the shadow of the tail over the pilot. It's strange then that it seems so difficult though to maintain on the boom position.
  3. Thanks Trigger and Feed for your replies. One reason I'm asking for the part numbers you all are using is because I've looked at a million toggles online at many different sites, but they all seem to look the same to me (at least the ones like in the picture). Good to know on the OC cards. I was thinking I'd have to buy more cards than just the two. Wiring them looks easy, but my brother-in-law is a master electronics guy and very good with software. I just fly the planes :pilotfly:(real world too). An update (yep, already): I've got just about every side panel except for the throttle area due to the soon to be purchased Warthog (from SCSim). I've also lamanated them for easy use, and will be attaching them to boards. My panel dimensions are a rough guess looking at pictures, but I'll scroll around the forum for some answers whenever I have time. Usually my free time is actually at work at the airport (at home, the wife is there,).
  4. Hey all, Some of you have helped me in my trek to get my pit past the "I think I want to build one" stage. Instead of constantly taking space in each topic, I thought I'd start my own with my questions. Once I have something to show for my pit, I'll post the pictures. Here are some questions in mind: OC cards - I'm wanting to go the SOIC route so that later on in the build I can add the backlighting/displays without buying extra cards... and also doing everything per LUA. Question is, which cards do I need from start to finish (mastercard, USB expansion...) List Everything! Switches - Thanks Rocketeer for your information on the switches. I'm looking for some actual part numbers for pretty much every switch, knob, button, screws, bolts... in doing my research I've come up with hundreds of numbers, but not for the cheap stuff. Can you guys leave some numbers for me to take a look at from what you are using? Panels - I'm thinking of starting the whole thing out of wood. The Lufthansa Hangar Chief did say that if I want something out of aluminum, he'd have it done for me (still would have to pay, but it's a good offer). I have the images for the panels, or most of them. Even if I do it out of wood, should I do multiple layers, and how thick? No backlighting for now. Paint - I know the basic colors are black and grey. When building in wood, do you use primer, color, clear coat... and if acrylic or aluminum, do you do the same? Berlin - Anyone live near me in Berlin Germany with a CNC that would be willing to help? hehe. I know I'll have a ton of questions, but that's what's at the top of my mind at the moment. Thanks for any answers provided, and I hope to start work on a panel sometime soon!
  5. Lookin good! I still can't seem to find the right switches. I did look at radio shack as you had suggested, but unsure which ones are which without holding it in my hand and saying "yep, that's the one I want."
  6. slightly old on this thread, but maybe a hint for some with the warthog. I'm not sure if this is possible, but for the cougar, I had the antenna rotator knob as my pedals which worked very well over the last few years. I now have the Saitek pedals which helps to make it more real.
  7. Hey Rocketeer, any chance I can get a copy of your spreadsheet of switches? I'm thinking of also using Leo's board (just waiting for the wife to give in and let me start buying stuff, hehe) which should help a n00b at building like me. I'll get one as a start, since I can then do the main switches I would use for now. Later on I'll probably upgrade to the OC stuff, but will probably need video building instructions, or someone to come visit for a few hours and help me set it all up, lol...
  8. Rocketeer, I have the same pictures (did you email me links?). In your last picture with the switches in the "panels", can I ask where you got your toggle switches, and roughly how much they cost? I'm having a hard time figuring out which ones to get that have the right feel but still are cheap enough not to break the bank.
  9. I have no idea what I did different this time. I started the driver install again, tried going through 36 pages on the saitek forum trying to find the right answer, wanted to post here further on my problem, but couldn't come up with the right wordage for what my device manager said. (sorry for the long sentence, hehe.) Anyway, I couldn't find the pedals in my device mgr even though they were connected... the drivers had installed. (sorry for the long story.) Thanks for offering the support. I appreciate it even though the drivers installed fine this time.
  10. yep, I'm sure it's the drivers file. "Saitek_Pro_Flight_Rudder_Pedals_SD6_64", The thing is is that I can't install the driver software. It gets to where I need to plug it in, and doesn't do anything from there. The pedal light turns on, and in the device manager it shows them there as the "Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals," but without drivers.
  11. I need some help here guys (and any gals that might be lurking). For the last however long that I've had my cougar, I've been using the antenna knob as my rudders (worked pretty good too) since I really never had the money for anything else. Well, since I'm working at the airport with business jets, I get tips... which the wife let me use to buy the pedals. Now I can fly :pilotfly:hehe. Ok, here's the issue. They didn't come with the CD (bought off ebay for pretty cheap...) so I downloaded the driver and software from saitek.com. Before plugging in the pedals, I wanted to install the software (heard that was the way to do it). So, I start up the driver installer and it gets to the part that says "connect the device". When I do so, nothing happens. A bubble (windows 7) pops up in the bottom corner saying to install the driver software, so I open it... but it can't find anything. In the device manager, I try to do a search for the driver installer so the device manager can just be pointed at it, but still no luck. I'm happy to have my pedals, but I still have no pedals . Can any of you master PC/electronic guys(/gals) help?
  12. Yo deadman, long time. I'm trying to figure out which switches are used on the electrical panel, as a start... mainly the size, function (on-off...), volts... basically whatever information I can get on them so that I'm not buying 30 switches and they are all wrong. Can you point me in the right direction? Keizer, sorry if I'm stealing your thread... I figured this info might benefit you too. After I get the switches, I need to wire them to a Master Card (something like this? http://www.opencockpits.com/catalog/master-card-p-29.html?cPath=21_27) and a usb card to get it connected to the PC right? Then I would just need software to connect it to the A-10C... or am I on the wrong track?
  13. That's where my problem is... not knowing which switches to order. I'm going to stop in the hangar today at work and talk to one of the guys I know in there (that speaks really good english, since my German isn't the greatest... I work at Schönefeld Airport in Berlin). I might be able to acquire some switches or at least get some good info on them.
  14. I actually just started doing this myself. I found (from a far earlier topic) a download for certain panel backplates and overlays. I just cut out a printout of the oxygen regulator panel and will laminate it for now. The question I have is on the backplates, the holes they show, they aren't anywhere close to the overlay. Is that normal? I'll start a cockpit build topic once I have something to show (right now I'm at work at the airport, 3 hours until my shift ends, and no planes in/outbound, hehe).
  15. I've only flown on the Nellis range twice so far (not much time to use the A-10 due to work). I noticed though that the city isn't populated, probably for good reason - fps, blowing up buildings on the strip... but was wondering if the Strip will be added
  16. There are a few panels in there I would love to have, and switches... but I just bought some new pedals and a trackir 5... wife won't let me part with anymore green until after xmas (she's letting me get a Thrustmaster Warthog and the MFDs (with LCDs)... so there goes my cash). The panels I'd like the most would be the Oxygen regulator, and a few of the standby instruments. Is there anychance I can pm you to find out how you acquired them or made them for later when I have the cash?
  17. It sounds like an issue I had with my TM Cougar. The mini-stick which might be written for mouse usage, could be off slightly or get "stuck" a little off center. Mine would scroll the mouse symbol, but a slight nudge of the mini-stick stopped it. I don't know if the X52 has a mini-stick that can be mapped to the mouse, but if so, see if that's the fault.
  18. Just to clarify (thanks first for your response), the 700 page version, if we have to pay for it, is the paper copy and not the download version. Will we have to pay for a download version also?
  19. Just curious as to know if to download the final manual will have a price. For me, to buy the sim, should include the manual and not have a separate price... or is that only for a paper copy? :book:
  20. Scabbers, being from the US (born and raised in NJ, only just recently moved to Germany) I know this, but as a pilot for the last 15 years (stateside), written in all manuals dealing with "taxiing" it is written so. (Excerpt from the FAA manual) Chapter 7-63, Line F: F. Taxiing. As used in this chapter, taxiing is when an aircraft is being operated under its own engine power on an airport’s movement area. Not to argue, but to show I know what I'm talking about, as a pilot.
  21. Pheonix, the Nose Wheel Steering allows the nose wheel to actually turn, along with the rudders for ground steering. I'm not sure there is a NWS on the stick, but I could be wrong. Grüße aus Berlin
  22. strange, tried that other post but it wouldn't let me in. Also, Taxiing is a word (use it everyday as a pilot). I'll try the "E" map tomorrow morning when I'm back home (at the airport right now).
  23. Hey Memphis, Great writeup of the start-up manual for the Hog. I had also noticed a couple errors that I thought I'd point out. Simple things really, starting with page 3, #7, then #10, you have them both as "setting up the VHF", where #7 should be for the UHF. The other spot I noticed is page 13, #36 you have "taxying" but it's spelled "taxiing". It's a shame (for now) that the EAC switch doesn't work. I can't go through the training startup all the way since I hit that spot and can't continue. (tried with a key command, but it still doesn't work).
  24. I run the "fs autostart" program to turn off all background programs and to defrag my RAM. also, it still does whatever it's doing even with settings turned down (but I get 140 FPS! kind of hard to fly formation when it's THAT smooth, hehe).... I don't know. I'm back in the 9250, and there's no point in getting a different card since I'm moving soon... I'll deal with it for now. Thanks for all the help though guys
  25. Hey Iguana, Long time no talk! Yeah the weather was great this last week... but in 3 weeks I'm moving to Germany for a job I got (and a lady I met :D)... Anyway, I don't get any kind of corruption or bad graphics... it'll just pause the pc, and the monitor goes blank... however, on other occasions, it'll just shut down everything. I've been able to do one full flight with it not giving any issues. I'll try picking up a new heatsink/fan combo that might be better. Good to see you're still around
