Well, I'm not sure if starting a competition on that is a good thing. We should be really happy that guys like DM (and tons of other, but I hesitate to name more...that always bears the danger that I leave out some...) share the result of their labour-intensive investigations and just behave similar wherever we can. For example, I'm thinking about setting up an Access database with details about all the parts/panels that are build in the Hog's pit for Cockpit builders. Originally, I started doing this for my own purposes only, but perhaps this information might help some others too. I will make the database public once it's more complete. Since I have to get used to Access for work, it's a good opportunity to combine work and hobby ;)

Did you receive an invoice from DM? :music_whistling: Nice idea with the beer-donation;)

I assume the 3x 12TW1-3D are the 2-position-switches for TGP, CICU and JTRS. However, do these switches in real have a lock in the center position? For the four 3-position switches (MASTER ARM, GUN/PAC and LASER) that makes sense to me, but not for the 2-position switches. I know you were just guessing....so am I ;) To be honest, I've searched the HWL website up and down but I haven't found a non-locking version of that switch so far.

looks absolutely great :thumbup::thumbup: in the middle pic it almost look like you got a real ADI in place... amazing work

Great news! email sent about a week or two ago :smilewink:

Thanks DM for all your research and sharing  Although in my current stadium I'm far away from planning on switches, I'm pretty sure your postings will do a perect job for referencing later. I just received my very first panel this week. It's a real IFF and I was completely surprised by the sheer amount of different switches...on just one single panel!

That's a difference, true (although not for our purposes..or does anybody plan to really rebuild the entire oxy system of the Hog?) However, look at the one I bought, the description says it's functional too (although from a DC-10 so rather old)... what makes the other one nearly 25 times more expensive?
-
yeah, I was watching that for a few days too. It was around 130 the last days...which I already found a bit expensive. But what happened? Did they plug some gold nuggets in it?? Look here: I can't tell what the big difference is between those two....well, except the price :( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bendix-MD-1-Regulator-Oxygen-Diluter-Demand-Automatic-MD-1-/400274401611?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6113366527434275755#ht_3522wt_758 Personally, I bought this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370579096327?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_500wt_922 It's not 100% the Hog thing, but close...and quite cheap. I'll paint the switches red and green and try to make the green ON/OFF switch working with DCS.

Thanks y2kiah for your reply. Your way to do the HSI is quite inspiring. Thinking about how to implement the HSI (and ADI) caused lot of headache for me. I think my skills are sufficient just to get a simple round dial instrument like a VSI connected and running in the Sim. But I had no clue how to do it for a more complex instrument like the HSI and ADI. Your "hybrid" way (using a "real" hardware bezel while a monitor behind replicates the instrument's indication) is a solution I haven't thought about at all. Another great example of "best sharing practice"... Thanks! And keep up your brilliant work!!

:thumbup::thumbup: That would be really interesting. Will you manage to get the two HDG and CRS knobs working, given that they are quite close to the display's edge.. Anyway, looks just brilliant. I'm sure you'll end up very close to this one:

Damn, I oversaw the T.O.Trim indicator for the SAS panel. Could you add one unit for me too? Including frame, light and label? Thx! By the way: Your covers look outstanding on my Warthog. I really hesitate to fly now...since that would force me removing them:lol:

Great, thanks for the update Deadman! I guess you'll send PM's around with the final price including the shipping (to Switzerland in my case)...? No hurry, though ;) Zenga

Hi all, not brand new, but great pictures. http://prometheus.med.utah.edu/~bwjones/2007/04/a-10c-thunderbolt-ii-a-k-a-warthog/ Personally, I love this one....if I just could steal it:

Covers received in Switzerland this morning! So great, can't wait to get home and put them on. Thanks a million, Deadman!

I will join too... Perhaps we really should open a new thread "best excuses for how to explain your wife why you spend another hundred bucks for a little piece of metal and a few switches".... My favorite is this one: "Ah, so you buy all your shoes only because you NEED them?..." By the way: Great Pit, Timmay. Seems to be a very good balance between immersion and budget!
-
That sound more like something I can afford. Well, take your time, I decided to begin with the side consoles first. However, I will continue to purchase instruments/panels for the MIP when available. And a Hog-style HSI is one of the more sophisticated instruments I'd say. So yes, would appreciate if you could inform me about the availability... Thx

Hi Gadroc, great job! Please put my name on the reserve list, too! Keep up your great work! Zenga

HSI HSI... I'm desperately trying to find one which is close to the Hog's one. Found this here...unfortunately well above my budget :( http://www.ebay.com/itm/HORIZONTAL-INDICATOR-HSI-P-N-100524-Astronauctics-/170039996227?pt=Motors_Aviation_Parts_Gear&vxp=mtr&hash=item27972c6f43#ht_756wt_689

Just bought it...Thanks for the link!!!

I only found the VSI to be really close to what we have in the Hog (however, the bezel here is square which it is not in the A-10C). Not sure yet if I´ll go for it...
-
the 6.00 USD instruments are all virtual, not hardware. With these, you can actually assemble your own "virtual cockpit". A bit like Helios I suppose, except that you have to pay for each gauge and they´re still not 100%-Hog-like as in Helios...

R302 Two square inch Tachymeter smith just found found this one... not sure if it's the same as in the Hog. At first glance, it looks quite the same though. Quite cheap IMHO. http://www.ebay.com/itm/R302-TWO-INCH-TACHOMETER-SQUARE-CASE-SMITH-/370578804353?hash=item564837ce81&item=370578804353&pt=Motors_Aviation_Parts_Gear&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_922

Congrats, KungFuCharlie, looks like you're geared up for panel building now  Just a curiosity: What is the cost in the US for such a DIY kit?
-
If you go ahead with that quality from the Fire Handles downward, you´ll end up in an awesome pit

Hey DM, get back well soon!
