Hi all, im new here but have been reading almost every topic.
So I was looking through every page of this forum and noticed a few old topics about how people wanted lots of ground detail to be added, including infantry. We know this is impossible in the currant lock-on engine, as it does not support skeletal animation. Not to mention, that if they did add this, we would get about 2 fps..
So I got to thinking, how could they add platoons of people running around the battle field? How could they do that and have it seem almost real, with squads running between bunkers and taking cover? Basically doing everything that looks real. I came up with something that I think would be very doable.
Here it is.
If ED did add infantry on the ground they would not have to be complex animations or high poly models. All they have to do is remember back to the days of 1990's games, where everything was a sprite. They could make bitmap animations from the front, side and top profile of different types of soldiers. These would be made just like the trees, only a little better. Each sprite would be linked to your aircrafts point of view, and would blend into the different profiles as you change angles.
With this they could have huge platoons and individual soldiers acting somewhat realistically with very little fps drop. They could even have some different sprites for troop’s huddled behind a tank or looking around trees. They could also fire small arms at your chopper. This would add so much realism to the new add-on, and I think it could be done.
What do you all think, and what other ideas do you have?
