Computer Build ... No Vista, Wants to buy from PCVOnline http://www.pcvonline.com CPU – If you can, Wait for an dual core E8400 (The Penryn quad cores are delayed) I THINK it will debut at 250$-300$... If not then it's a toss up between Quad Core Q6600 (2.4Ghz) at 289$ or something like an E6750 (2.66Ghz) at 200$. Hell, even a E4500 at 140$ will do really well. This one is really up to you (how long will you wait for Penryn's.) All being said, I would put the money towards a 24inch monitor. You'll see how it plays out below. Ram – 2 x 1 GB Corsair 4-4-4-12 http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=5711 100$ Acedy's comment does stand though, I just don't know how 4 gigs reacts in XP during overclocking Graphics card – Asus 8800gt 512mb http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=6490 260$ ATI 3870 PVCOnline doesnt have a 3870... may be OOS Sound Card – Creative SB X-FI Extreme... bleh, I hate looking for Sound cards lol http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=5447 72$ CPU Heatsink and Fan - You said about overclocking ... “If there's a an opportunity I'll do it” http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=2657 Just used this in my brother build and it keeps his well cool, especially with the new Intel 45nm chips coming out. Might be a problem if you go quad core and get into Ocing, no worries, just get a newer heatsink 35$ Motherboard - For non-SLI GigaByte GA-P35-DS3R http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=5801 Proven performer and is compatible with 45nm Penryn 145$ For SLI Asus P5N-E SLI (650 SLI) http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=4740 Compatible with 45nm Penryn and a solid board. Tough to know how either of these boards will do overclocking Penryns. Better results probably with the GA-P35, thats just a guess though. 137$ Psu - Its so import to have a good one, I do not care if you're overclocking or not http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=5718 99$ Case - Thermaltake Armor... Sweet choice dude http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=5143 200$ Hard Drive - Seagate Perpendicular http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=2939 120$ Optical Drive - http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=5494 Does what ya need outside of HD Dvd, only Blu-ray and HdDvd do that. It's sata, no need for big Ide cables anymore 35$ 125$ for PCV-Online building 1375$ (e6750, 8800gt, Gigabyte Motherboard) + 179 for Tax = 1659$ Leaving 446$ for a Monitor.....puts you in range for a 24in Monitor with a TN type panel screen. http://www.pcvonline.com/products.aspx?cat=Monitors&sub=LCD%20Monitors%2024%22&sub2= http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?minorcatid=1003&subminorcatid=220 So thats version 1.... Everyone chime in -

Patch 1.13 Requested Features/Fixes List (*Merged)
3Sqn_Fudd replied to Colt40Five's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I'm still getting my words together for this video... but let me thank you guys for visually portraying some of the things long known to missiles. I affirm the statement "These exploits cannot be allowed to stay in a future game, at least that is what we think." -
Doh! it is 2008! Anyone written a bank check lately? I always hate that.....lol Soaring Eagle... Listen, we understand the frustration. Lockon is a HARD on computers and it is undoubtedly hard to learn when you're new. Keep playing offline, incrementally take the views away, incrementally make the AI harder, incrementally engage harder targets... and then pop on a Ventrillo or TS.... Fly some online and you'll be an effective "ace settings" pilot. Hardware wise... keep as much set to low as you can...
-
2 - Its more for competitive reasons... most of us have been flying so long that if we see a bandit through externals, we know exactly where they are. 3 - The brief SHOULD give you some indication where to expect enemy activity. Your passive and active sensors also help. I have always been a proponent of having a "noob" server available to new players... it gives them an opportunity (with labels) to see how their own and others missiles respond (most noobs dont know how to use tacview and LOTU to "look" at why their dying.) The problem is... most major servers/squads can't convince their squad members or constituents to consistently utilize the time for it. It's also an admin problem.

Man.... I bet no speck of dirt was left....lol

CONGRATS RvE! good job! If it was held in Chicago I would be there every year... Hell, I would help organize it. -
Look all over for some sort of code... even at the top... stuff like "irql_not_less_or_equal" ... anything... Also, use photobucket or something and post some pics of your bios settings... mainly interested in 3 pages ... the Voltages, The page that has Vanderpool etc, and the page that has RAM settings. (IIRC, I used to have your board)...

Good stuff guys! Congrats.... See you in the air!

Is There a Dual Core Advantage?
3Sqn_Fudd replied to FA_Crazy-Canuck's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi Crazy... Yes, Dual core allow programs to be run on either of the cores (Ex. Lockon on Core 1 and Hyperlobby on Core 2) ... It makes your system more responsive. A change from a 3700 at 2.2Ghz to a 4600 at 2.4Ghz (a difference of 200Mhz) will make very little difference in frame rates in Lockon/Blackshark but it will be a nice general change... I would say if the price is right then do it. -

DCS: Black Shark - Q&A **READ FIRST!**
3Sqn_Fudd replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hiya guys... Looking forward as all are but I have a question about the survey vs. study aspect of the new series. When does study stop? We'll be absolutely certain that the tandem warhead of the Vikhr (or the warhead of a hellfire) is performing realistically as reactive armor explodes, is defeated, then transitions through a depleted uranium (or similarly tungsten) skin, onto rolled homogeneous steel, the armor ceramics, and through an anti-spawling coating? Obviously thats an extreme circumstance, but I wanted to know the thresh hold. I relish... absolutely relish the demise of super threads where people are incessantly arguing about the performance of systems. There's a real chance that this could be rested, but the limits of secrecy will persist... so... how far will study go? and furthermore, will that keep all additions to DCS in a late 1980's and 90's area. -
Yeh G.A..... Welcome to the forums. I don't know why, but I have a feeling you'd make some good movies... You should give it a shot LOL
-
Well its a new dawn of sorts. We'll all have to stand on the rudder during gunzo matches. lol It's mixed emotions for me too. DCS have thrown off the limits of Ubi but can't share in some of the strengths that it brings, if there were any. Getting away from this approximate formula will be much more fun for DCS ---> (Gross – License) x Royalty – Advance => Net :) The fidelity factor is so promising but it's also sad that the “Medium fidelity/survey” aircraft can't necessarily be furthered into High fidelity. I hope that some of the fixed wing we already know can be added down the road through some effective legal tactics. Ubi lives on the edge though, they aren't EA and to a lesser extent Activision, and they'll be stingy. If I am wrong about the above then please tell me so, no one seems to battle too much with the DCS as a response to Ubi connection. More random thoughts... Try to hit real DX10 sooner rather than later, establish a graphics standard and then levy the modular nature of the DCS series into easier cash. Going from 8 to 9 to 10 takes longer yes? I hope the “evaluation” of a 1.13 patch leads to one. It would tide people over well and is in fact needed.
