  1. DDR3 will not fit on that board. DDR2 and DDR3 are both 240pin, but the physical notches to fit them in the slot are in different places And really, that board is not new, which can be a good thing lol That PSU is really well done, the only future proofing measure I would think about is 2 x 8pin PCI-E (as opposed to 2 x 6 pin.) It makes no difference with todays GPUs... but the next round of Nvidia and ATI cards may for some odd reason require them. Thats merely a guess though...
  2. Excellent.... I was always a proponent of going higher (not insanely high) out of the gate with my overclock voltages and then backing down. I think it's because im too impatient to creep up, I'd rather get establish and then back it down. Hardware is so weird sometimes though Let us know if anything changes
  3. Thats pretty sweet.... If LockOn had that I would have paid 80+ US dollars 2 years ago...
  4. I wonder how often flights are made without filing the flight plan to the authorities?.. in the U.S. it's the FAA
  5. Try it this way then... boot into safe mode and run Prime, HCI memtest, Orthos... whatever else you like (OCCT is a good one) ... to get the ATI card out of the equation. (Edit...My memory is failing me... I dont think you can do some of those programs in safe mode) Overall my hunch is you have two problems going on... Ati.dll messing with your gaming and secondly, a possible RAM problem. RAM because you're sitting windows doing nothing graphics related and failing stress tests like Prime and Memtest within seconds. You are also getting odd Firefox and windows behavior.... I could very well be wrong though. Talon... he shouldn't have temp problems he's got a OCZ vindicator cooler and maxes out at 55c. Northbridge and soutbridge I do not know about, thats one of the reasons I said put those on the middle values (so you know what kind of heat you're putting to them.) You'll get it solved m8.... in the end you're learning enough about computer components to get you through problems for years to come.
  6. Cool, thats one clue.... I would wait for two more BSODs to confirm. Until then I would google the hell out of "ati3duag.dll " and find a solution. The great thing about the web is that unless you're pioneering something then someone has had your problem before. Until then be a bit wary, I wouldn't think an ATI dll problem would have you failing Prime and HCI memtest in under 5 seconds. I think there's more... Like we talked about on comms I would still isolate your Ram Sticks to singles and try them in different slots.
  7. Where's a new movie? Seriously though, you need to be done with one by the middle of the month :noexpression:
  8. Copy that... I would make the vanderpool and PCI Express frequency change and then wait for a few BSOD's (aka restarts)... get a good sample of what errors are being thrown at you and then make a decision on what needs to happen... If the BSOD's are all ATI related... then you have a big clue lol If they're mixed up you might start looking at RAM. Do yourself a favor and speed the failure process up and grab something to speed up finding weaknesses. Here's my current favorite... Blend is a good overall test, obviously lol http://majorgeeks.com/Prime95_d4363.html
  9. Have you done clean installs of ATI Drivers? Meaning, have you gotten rid of everything ATI related through "add/remove programs" then used a program like Driver Cleaner Pro to clean up remaining traces of the previous driver? Heck, I think there's even a tool from ATI to remove everything (Mustang! where are you? lol) As for the overclock here's what I see needs to be done. For sure disable Vanderpool and raise your PCI Express Frequency to 105 then try again... If Vanderpool is greyed out when you enter your bios then shutdown and unplug your PSU for about 30 seconds. If problems still present Disable CPU TM, and Disable Execute Disable Bit Still problems? Take you FSB Term Voltages and ICH voltages off auto and put them on the middle values. 333Mhz FSB should be a walk in the park with the above BIOS changes. Any further problems and im thinking a software problem. Try Vanderpool first... then go through those changes... last thing we'll do is assume you have a droopy board and that your CPU actually isn't getting 1.4v on the Vcore If you're still hitting a wall then come onto 3Sqn comms P.S. Throw up a screen shot of your memory settings... under Northbridge Configuration P.S.S One last thing, did you freeze your BSOD's so you could read them? What error messages were you getting at the bottom of the blue screen? Was it consistenly one thing or were there different error messages?
  10. Thats a bad pie you ate Im going to take my BlueFor moderator hat off for a second and state right now that BlueFor is gonna whoop RedFor's Lilly White A** LOL Seriously though... Remember your first time in Red Flag... All you wanted to do was show that you were ready for your squad and kill. But as time goes on you tend to just want your side to do well. These things are fun no matter if you win or loose... I seriously think that.
  11. All Parties Briefing All Participants head to 159th Forums for specific briefings and planning. http://www.the159th.com/forum/ Contact 159th_Invicta with forum permissions problems. Welcome to LOCERF 07-4 September 15 at 1400z This round of exercises adds a neutral country (designated “Container”) in the vicinity of the battle area. The leadership of Red and Blue forces have concluded it is in their best interest not to agitate this neutral country, thus it is off limits to all Red and Blue combatants. Any violation of their airspace will be scored -100 points for each clear overflight into the “Container.” Destruction of any neutral units will be scored -200. Mission Start Time 10:00 Mission End Time 13:00 BlueFor Bases: Fighters - Sukhumi / Strikers – Unknown RedFor Bases: Fighters - Anapa / Strikers – Unknown Atmospheric Conditions Miscellaneous: The 159th TS and JaBoG32 TS are the official TS servers for LOCERF. Deadline for Waypoints and Staggered Load in Sequence is September 12th by 2100zulu There is no FARP.
  12. Through 3 Red Flags I can think of many units, who on paper you would think do really well or poorly... and been surprised to see a different result. Hit your Tacviews from the last three, you'll see what I mean. And can I mention again.... It sucks to not be able to fly in these :) It's an honor to make a map and moderate though
  13. The idiots over at Yahoo have the headline as this ... "Pilots were shocked when a Russian offered to buy their B-2 bomber for $500 million"
  14. Do you make S'mores Sandwiches around that camp fire? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S'more :)
  15. I really doubt it.... popular 965/975/P35 boards don't support the GO without BIOS updates but I doubt ASROCK is writing BIOSes for this board. It's possible though... especially if ASROCK is serious about keeping AGP alive. ASROCK have forums?
  16. Wow... I watched that... Incredible... Explanations anyone? Random number generator? LOL... I Digress...
  17. Ok then... Having watercooling in a scenario where you may loose AC and the cooped up inside temperature is 50c is a more compelling reason I guess... I see what you mean now. You just added more learning and build time for the water cooling though lol. More compelling though... not an outright reason to do it. Ok now that you have flipped over the thought of OCing I really must say that a P35 like the Asus P5K-D has been tremendous at OCing Quads (which you say you'll eventually get.) That board is nearly perfect except there's no SLI. If you're set on SLI then do it at the start and grab the P5N-E/Nvidia 650i family... To tell the truth, I have always waivered most on the motherboard more so that other things... Everything else is easy except that. One last thing about OCing... If you have really decided then I would ditch PC6400 Ram and get PC8000 sticks... its more room to play with your OC given the same set of RAM timings. As for being talked out of the Quad and going for a E6850... Yes, indeed most apps are not multithreaded but why not have 4 cores at 3.0Ghz as opposed to 2 at 3.0Ghz. To me the absolute "what should I get chip" right now is the Q6600 GO stepping (You're guaranteed to get the GO stepping from ClubIt or TankGuys (Both reputable.)) It's not a big deal though... You can always upgrade later ;) As a new again builder, be sure to post the full layout before you press "buy" we can spot potential problems...
  18. One doesn't need to watercool a non overclocked CPU unless you're planning on keeping the CPU for about 10 years... this makes very little sense. Am i wrong? Could be I guess...
  19. I haven't heard that some DX-10 or Dx-10.1 or whatever will not work with older Dx9 or Dx8 games... and that would be huge news Ditto to what Polecat said
  20. Oops... yep Intel X-38 motherboards are coming within a couple of months as well, alot of people are waiting for those. Decisions Decisions!!! lol
  21. Yeh... It'll just stop at the BSOD screen and not reboot... I have had BSOD's sitting for hours, it shouldn't affect anything. Your CPU wont throttle and eat itself if that's what you're getting at... LOL ;)
  22. Ok cool.... this gives it a much better look CPU- qx6850 (20% probability of purchase, I need more time to think and research) If you aren't going to overclock then I guess go for this one... Penryn is set for Nov. 11th ... I think thats just beyond your buy date. EDIT: Wow....1,100$ for a QX6850 ... If you have the time and inclination consider overclocking... You can do 5 hours of research and save yourself 800$ by getting a Q6600 GO stepping ------------------------ Motherboard- Striker ASUS The Striker is a 965 Board... I would go P35... It's newer but not so new that there are crappy BIOSes... Typically better OC potential with Quad cores and thus its sort of a future proofing measure, granted you get into OCing --------------------------- GPU- 8800gtx Ultra Ultra or GTX? they are two different things... Ultra is over priced, and if all you're playing is LOMAC then a 8800gts makes more sense. --------------------------- Operating System- Home edition Vista ( I will upgrade to Ultimate) I haven't been down the Vista path yet... why get Home just to eventually go ultimate? -------------------------- HSF ? whats is that? HSF = Heat Sink and Fan .... No need to really obsess over a HSF if you arent OCing... but if you do OC... Its a must to have a good one. -------------------------- PSU- I have not had but little research on this! There are only a handful of places to trust, and this is because all the rest merely stick a digital multi meter in the end of some PSU leads and call it a day. One cannot fully test a PSU this way. The good sites are JonnyGuru, HardOCP, PCPer, and more recently Anandtech Here's a good and recently updated list... ignore Tier One, I know that sounds odd but these PSU's are overkill for your system and/or harder to find http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103 I think an Enermax Infinity 720 looks good for you -------------------------- Case- Still researching (looking for one that will fit water cooling system) There are tons... but one does tend to fall in love with Cases with removable motherboard trays... Its all preference though -------------------------- Hard Driver- Ony one raptor hardrive with 200 or less gigs with 10,000rpm Still king if you're going to have one HD ------------------------- HSF Thermal paste- The thermal paste you use between the heat sink and cpu... no big worry if you aren't overclocking
