  1. A few days ago I had bombs loaded mistakenly when I really wanted gun-pods. But before I realised I didn't have guns I notice a pipper on low on the hud while flying at 50m and 200kph. I then climbed and the pipper disappeared. I then pitched over ALOT and there it was again. I tried dropping the bombs and couldn't do it. So I did a little experiment using input from another thread: Bombs can be dropped above 300m (the pipper is there if you pitch to 60 nose down but obviously useless). KGMU RT also has a 300m limitiation. This isn't stateted in the manual but what do they know . KGMU PTAB can be released at 50m and you DO have a CCIP which works great. It's good for taking out unarmed/lightly armed convoys. Now back to what Helos were designed for: ATGM and Rockets. Smokin' Hole
  2. But it doesn't lack a CCIP pipper on the HUD. Rack up 4 hardpoints of bombs, get up to cruising speed and altitude, and pitch down 30-40 degrees (hopefully without kissing rotors) and you will see a perfectly serviceable CCIP. Smokin' Hole
  3. For me artillery is not a problem but rocket launchers (MRLS) are, particularly when a large battery is firing. I would expect this since that's a lot of warheads to track and blow up but I wish I could lower the effects of just that one system. Smokin' Hole
  4. Fine. But before you school me any more about it please get in the helo and try it yourself. It's there. It may not work for bombs but it certainly isn't pointing rockets or guns.
  5. APU Bleed Limitation...Max Altitude 17000ft. The APU is there mainly for electrical needs not inflight starts (unless things are really, really bad). But boy have we digressed... AirTito. Thanks for the answer. Kamov is forgiven and I now know that starting an engine inflight is not a big need in the Ka50. What other sim can we have this kind of professional discussion over.
  6. What airline do you fly for Shep? I'm looking at my Continental Airlines 737 manual (Sec. 2.7 pp 25-29) and it has flight envelopes for both windmill and x-bleed starts. Depending on 737 version and altitude, windmill starts require somewhere between 275-300 kias. This is roughly true for every airliner, Douglas, Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer that I have flown. It's not true for helicopters, I get it. Smokin' Hole
  7. The key to your statement is "Usable". It's there. Try taking of with a hardpoint selected with a bomb under it. You will see the piper disappear under the HUD as you gain altitude just like it would in a Su25.
  8. The 300 RA makes sense. The manual said 200 and my nose bleeds above that. I got a permanent bruise doing the press and hold thing so that's not it. KMGU are supposed to work at any altitude but the RTs haven't worked at all for me yet. I'm not sure if I agree with you on the CCIP. It's definitely computing an impact point because at 15m it's displayed on the HUD and at 100m it's not, unless you point the nose down--WAY down. Smokin' Hole
  9. I've tried a bunch of different altitudes and speeds but I can't seem to find an envelope that will reliably drop a bomb. I know I have to hold the pickle for at least 1.5 seconds and sometimes it works but usually not. It's not bank, pitch, or acceleration because I've been pretty out of wack in each and had a bomb release. But when it happens I just can't seem to repeat the success. It's a useless function I know but, hey, I paid for it and I want to see it work. Also, despite the manual stating otherwise, there does seem to be a CCIP but since I've only gotten bombs to come off the rails twice I can't tell how accurate it is. Smokin' Hole
  10. Hello, I've attached the .crash file in txt format so that it is acceptable with the forum software. Playing the first Oil Campaign under Vista 64 (Yes I know its XP only). Here are the first 2 lines: Smokin' Hole DCS-20090117-135543.txt
  11. Thanks but you didn't read the whole post.
  12. Ok. Thanks. I'll keep the APU running.
  13. Not commenting to anyone in particular. How can one complain that he got a product he wanted at a price he felt to be fair at the time of purchase? I happily bought the RU version and then the EN version less than two weeks later. ED have understandably capitalized on the high anticipation this game generated. But since each one of us feels that he is on a first-name basis with Wags, I'm guessing that Nobody at ED is making a fortune no matter how many copies we buy. I say--wish them all the success in the world. Whatever they can do to generate an honest profit and continue making the best sims available on a PC is worth a little premium from us "early adopters". Smokin' Hole
  14. ^^^^ It was tasteless and perhaps pretty offensive to some so I snipped it. (yours can stay...wasn't nearly as bad.)
  15. True. But an F-15 or practically any other twin-engine fighter gets along just fine on one engine--The fight is certainly over but getting back home is no sweat. The Ka50 on the other hand, even with everything jettisoned will struggle at 130-150 kph. It'll still get you home (or to a soft spot) but you'll be puckering the whole way. I just thought a helicopter pilot would like a quick re-light if possible and prudent. Throw the APU into the mix and it's a 7-step process for any hope of a relight. Sorry, Tito, I know nothing about helicopters and less about Kamov but intuitively to me, its nuts. Smokin' Hole
  16. X-Bleed starts and Windmill starts are two different things. All jets have a Airstart envelope in which, with enough speed, no starter assist is needed. But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a way to quickly get an engine started. Cranking the APU first doesn't seem very quick to me but, oh well, that's the way it is. Well we're flying in two different worlds because every jet airplane I've flown with bleed driven starters do allow for in-flight cross-bleed starts. In Airplanes of that size the thrust decrease from bleed use is fairly insignificant for the short period the cross-bleed is open. Smokin' Hole
  17. I've been committing "Fratricide" alot and I'm not proud of it. Usually it's just my stupidity but it made me think of that A-10 flight that bombed the British (or Canadian?) convoy in Iraq. Those guys didn't just see a target and strike it. They asked first. (They just apparently didn't like the answer.) Why can't we do that? If you are close to the FLOT wouldn't it make sense to be able to query the FAC or battlefield commander before raining death on an area. My wingy sometimes serves this purpose by he usualy dies at some point in the mission and I'm on my one. A better way might be to lock or padlock a target, hit "\", F11 (FAC), F1 (Verify), and get an answer, "Outlaw" or "Friendly". Smokin' Hole
  18. Did a little experiment today flying along in the snow listening to Maykop Radio (That "Free Flight" song is still my favorite). I wanted to see it that little "Ice Detected" light on the Aft Panel worked with Engine A/I off. It didn't but that's not what I'm writing about. Fortunately, I only lost one engine. After getting the A/I on I tried to start that engine but without luck. I tried for 10 minutes all the way to Krasnodar before I realized that there is no cross-bleed start feature on this thing. Is Kamov nuts!? They really intended for the pilot to crank the APU so that he can attempt to restart an engine? Or am I falling into the trap of thinking like an airline pilot and assuming that all turbine engines use bleed air for starting and other services? Smokin' Hole
  19. Ahhh, Wingy is saying, "Shack" as in "Direct Hit". Got it. Thanks
  20. Target Friendly Check. (Notice I'm not calling it IFF) The ability to call a FAC or overall battlefield commander and say, "I'm looking at or locking a vehicle in this location, is he outlaw?" Completely realistic. In fact probably more realistic than what we now have because no one is as really alone and unconnected on the real modern battlefield as pilots are in DCS.
  21. "Shat". What does that mean exactly. Or perhaps he's saying "Check". But check what? The text at the top of the screen just says, "Two. two." I checked my Webstersky's Rus-English for Confused ED Simers but no entry for "Shat". Smokin' Hole
  22. I use it after nearly every mission. The really cool thing for me with the latest version is the modeling of artillery shells being lobbed to 20k feet. There is so much metal flying by and over your helicopter that you would never know about without Tacview. Smokin' Hole
  23. ^^^^ All radio chatter is triggered sound files. In F4 the "radio chatter" as in I'm Punching Out! or the somber We lost one! are files triggered by an event somewhere on the map. It's simple any you are right, it really works. It helps feed that illusion that you are part of something far bigger. Smokin' Hole
  24. Happens to me too. And only with the 159th "Naval" mission. However I think you can do the Affinity bit at the beginning (where you pick Client and Server)--unlike single player.
  25. I get occasional screen locks but only in Multi-Player. (I play SP far more often and have never had a problem). The locks are not consistant except that so far they have occured only when flying in cruise with no real activity. The "errors" log says (time roughly matchs the latest lock): 1/15/2009 18:29 warning: no weapon sensor for host 321b1002 warning: no weapon sensor for host 321b1002 and the "Error" log says: Error running Config/autoexec.cfg: cannot open Config/autoexec.cfg: No such file or directory 1/15/2009 18:29 V808201900 World::LoadPlugins: Loaded plugin module CockpitBase.dll Dispatcher: initial random seed = 2219541 Dispatcher: apply random seed = 2219541 Cosmos: Mission date assigned - Year:2009, Month:6, Day:1 loaded from mission Scripts/World/GPS_GNSS.lua Map objects for beacon site Потийский NOT FOUND!
