I think it was AirTito who said that one gets the impression with the Ka50 of something of a work in progress that was never fully made it past testing. Assuming that the sim is accurate, that is true in my experience. I notice it most with the awkward and limited communication between the ABRIS and the PVI-800. Many of the complaints we have might very well mirror the complaints that the handful of existing Ka50 pilots have as well. The least amount of guesswork on EDs' part, the better. Leave guessing and a full sensor suite to EECH. I want to learn to work around the limitations of the machine I've been given. Smokin' Hole

Forgot to mention Flight Director On, ALWAYS. Hammerhead: I find this works best if I trim for pitch only. Roll and Yaw I neutralize before trimming pitch ("cntl-enter" helps). Accerlerate low and hard down the runway at comfortable altitude (for me 10-15m). At the departure end pull 2g and as you approach 75-80 HNU push collective to zero. Full left "rudder" and add enough collective to help out then back to near-zero. As soon as the yaw begins with decent rate apply full opposite rudder. As the nose begins to align with the runway simultaneously neutralize the rudder and apply hard aft cyclic and enough collective to get a low RPM tone. You should bottom out at close to (but not below) your starting altitude and accelerating through 100+kph. To the right, rotor RPM gets extremely low but only momentarily and luckily with very little flap. Funnel: (Trim as above). So far, in my case, left manuevers look so-so and right, less so. Find a target (I use the runway numbers as the runway provides heading and rate info). Begin at 50-100m and apply left cyclic until full rudder holds the "target" under the pipper. If the target drifts to the right then feed in little jerks of right cyclic. If the target drifts left then relax the rudder a little or, in more extreme cases, feed in a little more left cyclic. I can manage this pretty smoothly to the left with about 25-30 nose down pitch. My goal is 45. Smokin' Hole (in fact many holes were smoked in the making of this post)

My wish as well. But my other wish is that participants on this forum wouldn't be so closed minded at times and, before ridiculing a participant, attempt to verify/dispute his claim by booting up DCS and flying. The manual isn't always right. Oh well, that's not what this thread is for. I like the request for non-circular trigger zones. Also, just as wpts magically make their way from the editor to the ABRIS, why not have lines drawn by the player on the editor also migrate to the ABRIS? Smokin' Hole

Go ahead and admit that you gave us a perfectly good CCIP pipper. No mention of it anywhere but it's there and is a great aid for dropping KGMU PTABs. Smokin' Hole

Night/ Low visibility missions? What's the point?
ericinexile replied to BaD CrC's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I tried one of the campaign missions that have the player take out two artillery batteries. The targets were supposed to be illuminated by a Su25t AFAC. The spot he dropped phosphorus on wasn't quite over target so that was a bust. But instead of giving up we just waited, directed the shkval over the muzzle flashes and sure enough, you could make out the outline just well enough to feed it a vikhr. So the Ka50 may not be an ideal night combat helo, but in a pinch its not completely worthless. Too bad you can't direct AI AFACs to drop a bomb at a time. Smokin' Hole -
No Radar warning, no radar guidance, no radar SAMs?

I tried tried once to load chaff but it just gave me less flares on both sides, no chaff. I'll try again. -
Anyone Figure Out How to Drop Bombs?
ericinexile replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I know that's a joke but if you can manage a pitch attitude of 60-90 nose down you will see it but you're attitude won't allow a release. Really though, there is no way you'd ever use this helicopter to drop anything but bomblets from a KGMU dispenser (and even that still borders on funny). Smokin' Hole -

Thank you . But please try the setup I explained on the page previous to this one. It could be that my downloaded copy of DCS is the only one in existance with a perfectly operable CCIP pipper--in which case I'd like to know. Smokin' Hole -

Jettisoned weapons DON'T arm. It's that way for a reason--so you don't kill little kids playing in the school yard just because you need to get light fast. -

There IS a CCIP pipper on the HUD. No need to ask ED for anything. Please do this experiment. Set up a convoy of soft targets and have them move ON ROAD. Set up your Ka50 with KGMU PTABs on all 4 hardpoints. Master Arm on and select a hardpoint BEFORE takeoff. Now take off and watch your new CCIP piper. Head towards the convoy fast at between 50-90 m RA. As the pipper approaches the first vehicle, press and hold the weapons release. Say goodbye to the convoy. This wont work for the other KGMUs nor will it work with regular bombs because of the 300m limitation but YOU STILL HAVE A CCIP. You just will need to pitch to a rotor smashing pitch angle to see it--so its worthless even though it is telling you the truth about where the bomb would fall if such a release were posible. No Radar warning, no radar guidance, no radar SAMs?
ericinexile replied to oho's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yes. And probably not, even if you are "lucky" enough to see it coming (and no chaff since there is no reason to spoof what you can't detect). Last question=Present (well maybe 2000 since there is no F-22 and there is still the F-117--but close present day). -

Even war machinery manufacturers have a heart (albiet a little teeny-tiny black one) and they figure that a pilot jettisoning weapons doesn't really intend to kill whatever is below--he just wants to get home on one engine or in one piece. Smokin' Hole -
artillery causing slideshow effect.normal or bug?
ericinexile replied to silent one's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Even Cooler...check your track out with TacView. Each Smerch is modeled spinning as it approaches the target area--then the bomblet canister is modeled as it falls to the ground. Seeing how all that metal is accounted for gives one the ultimate appreciation for what ED have done with DCS. -
A Poor Man's Dynamic Campaign Engine
ericinexile replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
That's a great start and we will be lucky if it gets even that far. But for this to work well, we still need a MP mission editor that allows players to see the known positions of Blue and Red and perhaps to modify waypoints to suit the needs of the flight. -
DCS: A-10C: Satellite guided JDAM's?
ericinexile replied to Chibawang's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Part of me hopes it doesn't, even though I know it should be if available on the A-10 IRL. This is somewhat modeled on FreeFalcon 4 (RedViper). You drop (JDAM) or launch (JSOW) and when the weapon hits, you are half-way to home, coffee, and a sandwich. No pilot action required other than scrolling through pre-programed targets and pickle. -
Black Shark interview at Rock, Paper, Shotgun!
ericinexile replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I think this is a misunderstanding of the motivation of those who want a DC in DCS. The DC will design missions for sure. But the player can dismiss those missions and set his own tasks within the living battlefield. Smokin' Hole -
artillery causing slideshow effect.normal or bug?

Man I just did Mission 7.2 of the first Oil Campaign. There is a trigger that sets off sky-burst Smerch rockets as you fly over a villiage--which gets completely raized. Wickedly impressive. -

Anyone Figure Out How to Drop Bombs?
ericinexile replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It's every bit as real as the pipper on the straight Su25. It corrects for wind, side-slip, speed, altitude. Bomblets hit precisely the location of the pipper at release (granted, not hard to do at 50m/200kph). So even if it is "some confused weapon targeting", the manual/Wags notes :book: don't mention "confused targeting" in which case the trustworthy sources would seem to be wrong. Just call it a CCIP and enjoy it...humor me.:joystick: Smokin' Hole -
Instead of quoting the manual or assuming I'm an idiot, try it out. The Kamov Ka50 may not have a working pipper but the ED simulated Ka50 does. It looks and works much like the CCIP pipper in the Su25 and is more than sufficient to accurately hit targets with the KGMU PTAB-2.5 KO (the only weapon releasable below 300m). Is it using the laser? no. Is it super accurate? no. But is it constantly updating an impact point based on speed, side-slip, and altitude? YES. Again, I'm not promoting the use of bombs. I'm just stating that despite what you guys claim there is a working CCIP pipper that avoids the need to guess, use the manual sight, or pretend you are dropping bombs in a Spad. Smokin' Hole

That's what Weta is trying to explain. There is only ONE map but it is very extensive and, compared to IL2, Falcon, etc., very detailed. AFAIK, moving trains are by schedule only (a very bored enthusiast will have stations and departure times posted eventually).
