  1. Do you fancy a life on the ocean wave! A home on the rolling deep! Where the scattered waters rave, and the winds their revels keep! Or how about a first mission that starts with a bang!! A new six mission Su-33 campaign is almost ready for fans of the AV-MF.
  2. Here's an A-10 campaign I did a while ago featuring locomotive busting http://www.the-eighth-art.com/A10OC.htm Mission 6 Locomotive Busting at Vladislavovka Day 1. 16:25 Hrs. Western Alliance Military Intelligence at Oxymoronlovovka have discovered that the Russian commander in the area, Lieutenant General Narkolepski, will be travelling in an army train from Feodosija to Sovetskij. You have been tasked to ensure that he doesn’t reach his destination. The train should pass through the station at Vladislavovka (SP2) at 16:40 Hrs. You are to destroy the railway bridge just beyond the railway sidings. This mission finds you airborne about 15 minutes from the target. The supply situation at Belbek AB is now critical and you and you wingman are only armed with a pair of Mk-84s each and your cannon rounds. A UH-60A helicopter will laser designate the target. Weather is fine, 68 F with scattered cloud at 3,500’. Tip: In order to see the train you must select CIVILIAN TRAFFIC ON in the OPTIONS panel before you press FLY.
  3. I've produced a new seven mission Su-27 campaign for Flaming Cliffs v1.11. Click below to find all the info and the link to download the zip file. http://www.dpsflight.com/Su27OC.htm There is also a link to pages with French and German text for all you non-english speakers out there. I’ve made a point of not hiding objects, and every mission is easily editable. If you want to remove weather effects, etc, declassify with Ctrl+SHIFT+D and enter password: Motherland. DPS Operation Cardigan Summer 1997. The Second Crimean War has entered its 4th year and the combined armies of Turkey , France and Great Britain are threatening to overrun the Crimea . Enemy forces are established along a front stretching from Balaklava in the south to Dzhankoy in the north. The Turkish 78th Armoured Division has just moved up to the front in the Lekarstvennoe sector and it is likely that they will soon commence a new offensive. The aim of Operation Cardigan is to weaken the enemy in the south-western Crimea . You are to lead a flight of Russian Federation Air Force (VVS) Su-27 fighters from the 1054th Fighter Aviation Regiment flying from Kerch-Bagerovo Air Base. Your main task will be to provide air cover for our CAS missions over the battlefield; however, you may be required to carry out ground attack assignments due to the desperate situation in the region. Mission 1 Escort Day 1, 09:30 Hrs. Su-25Ts of 9368th Shturmovik Aviation Regiment flying from Kirovskoye Air Base have been tasked with attacking Turkish armour around the town of Lekarstvennoe. Get airborne with your wingman and rendezvous with the Su-25s at SP2 at 09:55 Hrs. French Air Force Mirage jets have been carrying out occasional fighter sweeps over the region. Escort the Su-25Ts to the target zone at SP3. The mission will not be considered complete until their assigned targets are destroyed. Weather fine with scattered cloud at 1000 metres. Temperature 20 deg. An A-50 AWACS will be on station south of Feodosija at 09:50 Hrs. Mission 2 Air Strike at Causeway Heights Tip: In this mission the goals have been assigned to your side but no targets have been set so don’t expect to see the target icon in the HUD. An Su-17 will mark the enemy with rockets so expect to see smoke at SP3 at 15:35 Hrs. A lot of the action takes place close to the built up area so if your FPS takes a hit open the mission in the editor and remove some of the superfluous armour. Day 2, 15:00 Hrs. The situation in the south-western Crimea has deteriorated considerably over the past few hours. Turkish M-48 tanks of the elite 1854th Armoured Regiment have moved out of Sevastopol and light tanks of the Duke of Berwickshire’s Royal Lancers are taking up their battle formation north of Balaklava . Anti-armour strikes are today’s priority so you and your wingman have been loaded with rockets and bombs for ground attack. Your targets are Turkish tanks and support vehicles 4 kilometres north-west of Balaklava . Your time on target (SP3) is 15:35 Hrs and it will be marked by rockets. Weather fine with scattered cloud at 1000 metres. Temperature 30 deg. AWACS not available. Mission 3 Air Strike at the Alma River Day 3, 10:30 Hrs. 5. MWL, thanks for that. These smokey FAC/CAS missions are quite tricky - but they look great if you set the wind to 50 m/s (over 100mph) - and CCIP still works, although I'm not sure if it would IRL.
  6. Here’s a variation on a theme. In all of my previous A-10 campaigns and missions I’ve made the targets easy to find using the TISL diamond in the HUD. Too easy perhaps? I’d be interested to know if players can still locate their goals when they are just marked be smoke. In this short mission I’ve assigned the targets to the OA-10 aircraft which will mark them with rockets. You have to follow the adapted nine-line brief below in order to locate the target. I’ve had to make some concessions to make this work in game. In single-play you won’t have any radio contact with the FAC aircraft. Also, geographic references such as 45 16 56 N 34 34 44 E are of no help as you fly these missions so I have replaced them with a bearing/distance from a virtual TACAN (in this mission SP1 at Belbek Air Base). You should be able to locate the target with the track and distance from the IP without reference to the TACAN, but if you want to verify it just cycle through the steerpoints ` key (normally keyboard top-left) whilst in NAV mode and check the bearing/distance on the HSI. Click the link below to download the mission zip file http://www.the-eighth-art.com/A10MissionCASShevchenkovo.htm Here’s a reminder of the items passed by the FAC in the nine-line brief: The IP (initial point), the point from which the run-in begins Heading from the IP to the target Distance from the IP to the target Elevation of the target (amsl) Target description Target coordinates (TACAN radial/DME, lat/longs, or grid) How the target may be marked (smoke, laser TISL code) Location of friendlies Egress direction Print out the nine-line brief/s so that you have all the information to hand as you approach the IP. In this sample mission British Armoured Infantry of the 3rd Battalion of the Rutlandshire Regiment have been pinned-down with their backs to the AlmaRiver. The Army Liaison Officer has a good view over the battlefield from his vantage point close to the forward line of troops. You have just arrived in the Area of Operations with your wingman and the FAC aircraft is about to mark your first target with smoke. Forward Air Controller: OA-10 callsign Enfield 11 Your Flight: A-10 callsign Springfield 1 First CAS Request: “Springfield 11, Enfield 11, IP Gerojskoe Bridge (SP2), 065 degrees for 3 miles, elevation 165 feet, 2 tanks at crossroads, TACAN 030/12, FAC will mark with smoke, friendlies 2 miles east at road junction , egress south-east to SP3. Be advised that target is at the edge of a 2S6 launcher engagement zone” Second CAS Request: “Springfield 11, Enfield 11, IP Otradnoe Bridge (SP4), 040 degrees for 4 miles, elevation 400 feet, several self-propelled guns at Prudovoe village, TACAN 035/16, FAC will mark with smoke, friendlies 2 miles south at road junction , egress south to SP5. Third CAS Request: “Springfield 11, Enfield 11, IP Verhnesadovoe village (SP6), 350 degrees for 10 miles, elevation 100 feet, tanks approaching Gerojskoe village, TACAN 025/11, FAC will mark with smoke, friendlies in village 1,000 metres south-west of target , egress south-west. I worked through this mission a couple of times. The AI FAC aircraft expends all of his rockets on the first target so in the subsequent runs it is set to use any weapon on an object close to the targets. Thus you will see black smoke rather than white. The OA-10 also ignored his route so all the targets were marked in the space of two or three minutes – don’t take too long completing the CAS tasks otherwise the smoke will have cleared. It’s also worth flying the heading from the IP accurately to ensure that you are running-in on the correct smoke marker as the targets are fairly close together. Good hunting!! DPS.

DPS Operation Hunter Summer 1995. The Great War of Liberation has entered its 55th year. Over the past few days the Russian army in the Crimea has become seriously weakened Our American and German ground forces are currently well established along a front stretching from Evpatorija in the west to Sovetskij in the east and we have almost achieved air superiority. The 7th Allied Tactical Air Force has deployed its A-10 aircraft to their Forward Operating Locations (FOLs) in the Black Sea region. You have arrived in the conflict area with the 104th Fighter Wing and you are leading a flight operating out of its FOL at Simferopol Air Base. The US Army’s 80th Armoured Division is building up its forces in the Leninskoe sector. A major offensive will start in four days with the aim of taking the town of Krasnogvardejskoe. However, Russian 9A52 Smerch Multiple Rocket Systems belonging to the 75th Rocket Artillery Regiment dispersed across the northern part of the Crimean peninsular will pose a serious threat to our advance. Your main task over the next few days will be to seek out and destroy as many of these Rocket Artillery units as possible and fly Close Air Support missions in support of our ground troops close to the front line as required. Mission 1 Smerch Hunt Day 1. 09:30 Hrs. At dawn this morning US Special Forces units operating behind enemy lines located three 9A52 Smerch launch vehicles setting-up at their new firing positions. Start engines and get airborne immediately in order to locate and destroy these units between Pervomajskoe (SP2) and Azovskoe (SP3). The Special Forces units will laser designate the most important targets for you. Mission 2 On-Call CAS at Pavlovka Day 1. 12:45 Hrs. You are already airborne with your wingman to provide On-Call Close Air Support as required in the Pavlovka (SP2) area. An A-10 acting as Forward Air Controller in the Sadovoe sector has observed Russian armour on the move and it is likely that the enemy will soon be in a position to engage forward units of the German 41st Panzergrenadierdivision (Pankow). Your targets are currently 10 miles north of your present position – engage them immediately. Air cover will be provided by two Royal Belgian Air Force F-16As on CAP just north of Belogorsk. Mission 3 Artillery Hunt Day 1. 20:00 Hrs. Late in the afternoon reconnaissance flights and Special Forces troops observed Russian artillery units being set up at Stahanovka (SP2) and Rovnoe (SP3). It is vital that these targets are destroyed as soon as possible before nightfall so get airborne with your wingman immediately. Take care as you taxi around the airfield as some parts of the manoeuvring area are still cratered from earlier attacks. Mission 4 On-Call CAS at Krasnogvardejskoe Day 2. 11:30 Hrs. You are already airborne with your wingman to provide On-Call Close Air Support as required in the Krasnogvardejskoe (SP2) area. An A-10 acting as Forward Air Controller in the Sadovoe sector has observed a flight of Russian attack helicopters, possibly Ka-50s, on the ground close to the river crossing at Zheljabovka with their support vehicles. Your targets are currently 10 miles north of your present position – engage them immediately. Mission 5 On-Call CAS at Evpatorija Day 2. 16:20 Hrs. You are already airborne with your wingman to provide On-Call Close Air Support as required in the Evpatorija (SP2) area. A previously inactive Russian Air Defence System Command and Control Centre at Zadornoe (45 34 N 33 10 E) covering the north-western part of the Crimea has just come to life again and a Snow Drift radar started radiating near the town of Serebrjanka (45 38 N 33 30 E). Almost immediately, a Royal Belgian Air Force F-16A fighter sweep flying over the area was engaged by SA-11 SAMs. German Air Force F-4Es of Jagdbombergeschwader 63 “Treptow” armed with AGM-45s are already on their way to take-out the SAM site’s radar. You are to proceed to Zadornoe to destroy the command bunker and any enemy vehicles in the area and then proceed to Serebrjanka to mop-up what is left of the SAM site. Your first target is 35 miles north-west of your present position. Be advised that there are many MANPADs in operation in the area. Mission 6 Special Forces Recovery Day 3. 06:00 Hrs. Our Special Forces units have finished their work behind enemy lines and a US Marines CH-53 helicopter will pick them from the disused airfield at Krasnogvardejskoe (SP3). One last group of Special Forces troops is racing up the Amerskoe - Dzhankoy Highway in a truck in order to make the rendezvous before sunrise. However, the Russians are now aware of our mission and a column of Infantry Fighting Vehicles is making its way towards the airfield from the garrison at Azovskoe. You and your wingman are now lined up on the runway at Simferopol Air Base. It’s just beginning to get light. Take-off immediately and destroy the enemy vehicles before they get within range of the CH-53. You will need to reach the airfield at Krasnogvardejskoe by 06:15 Hrs if the mission is have any chance of succeeding. Mission 7 Interdiction at Azovskoe Day 3. 14:45 Hrs. A reconnaissance flight has spotted a number of 9A52 Smerch launch vehicles parked at a depot on the south-western edge of the garrison town of Azovskoe (SP4). Take-off immediately with your wingman and destroy all the vehicles that you can find at the depot. Be advised that the town is well defended with SAMs and AAA. Following the pre-programmed route will keep you clear of all the known threats en route. Mission 8 Interdiction at Krasnaja Poljana Day 4. 10:30 Hrs. A reconnaissance flight has spotted two enemy supply convoys forming up at the town of Krasnaja Poljana (SP3). Take-off immediately with your wingman and destroy all the vehicles that you can find in or near the town. An A-10 acting as Forward Air Controller near the front line will illuminate any targets of opportunity that appear in your vicinity. Be advised that there are many MANPADs in operation in the area. Mission 9 On-Call CAS at Pjatihatka Day 5. 08:30 Hrs. Just before dawn this morning the US Army’s 80th Armoured Division and the German 41st Panzergrenadierdivision (Pankow) and Leopard 2 tanks of the 33rd Panzerdivision (Falkenberg) started to push north towards Krasnogvardejskoe. The 80th Armoured Division has made good progress; however, the German units have got pinned-down along the road from Annovka to Sadovoe with resistance being particularly fierce around Najdenovka. You are already airborne with your wingman to provide On-Call Close Air Support as required in the Pjatihatka (SP2) area. Your task today will be to attack enemy positions, mainly machinegun posts and anti-tank-weapons, which are slowing down the German advance. Otherwise the right flank of the US forces will be vulnerable to any Russian counterattack. AH-1W attack helicopters of the 33rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade are also in action over the battlefield.
  8. This seven mission F-15C campaign that I built for Flaming Cliffs v1.11 went down well with those who played it, perhaps it appealed to virtual pilots in the UK as it featured 617 Squadron 'The Dam Busters' for whom you will provide a strike escort in the second mission. Click below to find all the info and the link to download the zip file. http://www.the-eighth-art.com/F15OC.htm If you want to remove weather effects, etc, declassify with Ctrl+SHIFT+D and enter password: Motherland. When I tested Mission 2, the objects at the foot of the reservoir failed to appear. However, when I pressed Esc and restarted there they were and the game ran fine. DPS Operation Censure May 1992. A militarily reinvigorated Republic of Ukraine has occupied Krasnodar Administrative Region and part of western Georgia. Danish troops as part of UNPROFOR-BS (UN Protection Force – Black Sea) have established a buffer zone east of the 41st Meridian (running north-south through the city of Suhumi) in order to prevent the conflict from spreading. As the Ukrainians have failed to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 6600, calling on them to withdraw immediately and unconditionally all forces from the illegally held areas, NATO aircraft will now impose a no-fly zone over the entire region and commence limited attacks against carefully selected economically important targets. You are leading a flight of F-15Cs of the 52nd FW operating out of IncirlikAB in southern Turkey tasked with enforcing the no-fly zone and escorting strike packages to targets as assigned by ESCOM (NATO/US Eastern Command). Mission 1 Suhumi CAP Day 1. 07:00 Hrs. You are leading Dodge 1 flight maintaining a CAP at 15,000ft south-west of the town of Suhumi (SP1 to SP2). A UN observation post, manned by Danish troops, located on the northern outskirts of Suhumi has reported Ukrainian Su-25 ground attack aircraft firing on targets near the town of Gvandra (43 03 N 40 02 E). Another Su-25 has been circling in the area acting as a Forward Air Controller (FAC). You must destroy the ground attack and FAC aircraft. Be advised that enemy troops dug-in to the west of Suhumi are equipped with MANPADs. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker is currently on station (SP4 – SP5) south of the CAP location at 18,000 ft. Mission 2 Strike Escort to the Ulu-Sala Reservoir Day 2. 11:00 Hrs. The first objective on the ESCOM target list is the hydro-electric power station just below the dam at the Ula-Sala reservoir (SP3 on your pre-programmed route). ESCOM Military Intelligence at Oxymoronlovovka have reported that its only defences are 23mm AA guns located near the towers on the dam itself, although the Ukrainian Air Force could well launch Su-27s from its air base at Kirovskoye. Tornado bombers of RAF 617 Squadron will attack the target. Two Tornado aircraft will precede the main attack in order to suppress the AA guns on the dam. Your task will be to act as escort flying above and ahead of the strike package. Intercept and destroy any Ukrainian Air Force aircraft that may interfere with the operation. The mission will not be considered a success until the power station has been destroyed. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker will be on station (SP4 – SP5) at 11:25 Hrs 40 nautical miles south of Jalta at 20,000 ft. Mission 3 Strike Escort to Kirovskoye Air Base Day 3. 09:45 Hrs. The Ukrainian Air Force is continuing to contravene the UN imposed no-fly zone by allowing their Su-27s and MiG-25s to fly from Kirovskoye Air Base. This mission finds you already en route escorting a package of Triple Nickel F-16C Strike/SEAD aircraft, whose task it is to shut the air base down permanently. Your job will be to protect the package from attack by enemy aircraft that may already be airborne. Kirovskoye Air Base is currently defended by a SA-6 SAM battery. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker will be on station (SP4 – SP5) at 10:10 Hrs 40 nautical miles south-east of Alupka at 21,000 ft. Mission 4 SEAD Escort Day 4. 11:20 Hrs. A Ukrainian Clam Shell radar unit associated with an SA-10 SAM site just to the east of the town of Lenino (45 18 N 35 46 E) has been illuminating our aircraft as they patrol the no-fly zone. You and your wingman are providing an escort to a pair of 555th Fighter Squadron F-16C SEAD strike aircraft. They have orders to put the radar out of action if it is switched on again. You are to ensure that no enemy aircraft interfere with the strikers. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker will be on station (SP3 – SP4) at 11:40 Hrs 100 nautical miles south-east of Jalta at 20,000 ft. Mission 5 Sochi CAP Day 5. 15:30 Hrs.Your wingman has just come off the tanker and you are about to refuel when AWACS reports contacts airborne in the no-fly zone. Danish observers in Suhumi have also reported seeing a Ukrainian Air Force FAC aircraft circling near the town of Verhniaia Jeshera (43 04 N 40 54 E). Connect to the tanker, which is currently in your one o’clock position, take as much fuel as you think you will need, and then attack the bandits. AWACS available. If required, the KC-10 tanker will be on station (SP5 – SP6) for the duration of your CAP 70 nautical miles south of Sochi at 18,000 ft. Mission 6 RESCAP Day 5. 10:15 Hrs. You are leading Chevy 1 flight maintaining a two-ship CAP at 20,000ft 70 nautical miles south of the town of Novorossijsk. The pilot of a Royal Danish Air Force F-16A, carrying out Battle Damage Assessment near Lenino (45 18 N 35 46 E), has just ejected having been shot-down by a SAM – possibly an SA-8. An SH-60B helicopter, already airborne from the frigate USS Oliver H. Perry, has been diverted to the area to pick up the downed airman. A RDAF on-call CAS flight (two F-16As armed with AGM-65Ds) has been directed to find and destroy the SAM site. AWACS have detected enemy aircraft, possibly MiG-23s airborne over the Sea of Azov. Your task is to protect the rescue helicopter. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker will be on station (SP3 – SP4) at 10:40 Hrs 70 nautical miles south of Kerch at 21,000 ft. Mission 7 Strike Escort to Beloglinka Power Station Day 7. 15:50 Hrs. The Ukrainian Air Force is continuing to contravene the UN imposed no-fly zone. One of our electronic reconnaissance RC-135 aircraft operating over the Black Sea has gathered further evidence that enemy helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft are still flying over the Crimean peninsular. Therefore, ESCOM has tasked RAF Tornados of 14 Squadron to attack the Head Quarters of the Beloglinka Power Company located on the northern outskirts of Simferopol. You are to ensure that the strike aircraft reach the target, which is protected by 23mm guns. The mission will not be considered complete until the target is destroyed. A Royal Danish Air Force F-16A is included in the package to carry out a post-strike reconnaissance. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker will be on station (SP3 – SP4) at 16:22 Hrs 40 nautical miles west of Evpatorija at 21,000 ft.
  9. I got a correction from MrMudd-Glenn over at SIM HQ for those of you who like to do it properly: (Wrong) 8. best direction of egress/track to next IP (Correct) The 9-line brief looks like this: 1. IP (initial point) 2. Heading to the target 3. Distance to the target 4. Target elevation above sea level 5. Target description 6. Target coordinates (TACAN radial/DME, lat/longs, or grid) 7. How the target may be marked (smoke, laser TISL code) 8. Location of friendlies 9. Egress direction Number 8 is the friendly location and or anything you dont want fratricide or collateral damage to happen too. Very important. The fighters need to know their purpose. In the real World the 9 (Egress) is for threat Avoidance, However can be used as discribed. (we never include aditional Tasking as a FAC, Until Current tasking is completed. Typically those fighters are going to be heading home to rearm refuel and or a Beer and a steak. No Point in discussing Dinner when your serving Lunch. This all begins with the CAS Checkin to the GFAC or FAC(A) on Scene Controller.. part of this Cas checkin is going to include the fighters fuel state, Mission Vul Time. Aircrqaft type, number of aircraft and ordnace. Procedurally this is the way it works. A Fac Contacts the regional tactical air control coordinator or other simular agency. If the FAc needs additional support then the FAC will recontact the TAC Authority for nbew assets as well as a BDA report. A good example for this in lomac is to create 2 fac Controllers and 1 Tac Coordinator. Place two regions of enemy armor, and have waypoints for the FAC to go to the target area. Once the fac Finds the targets, he will contact the TAc Controller, and that tac controller will handoff an assignment to a flight of a10's these a10's will now vector to FACs position, Checkin. 10. Back in the olden days during the Cold War before the introduction of the Joint Direct Attack munitions (JDAMs), capable Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Advanced Close-Air Support (ACASS) and the widespread use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) for guidance A-10 drivers would have relied heavily on Forward Air Controllers (FACs) and Army Liaison Officers to co-ordinate their Close Air Support (CAS) missions and avoid blue-on-blue accidents. Instructions for the attack would have been passed to the A-10 pilot by R/T using a standardized nine-line brief containing the following information. The IP (initial point), the point from which the run-in begins Heading from the IP to the target Distance from the IP to the target Elevation of the target (amsl) Target description Target coordinates (TACAN radial/DME, lat/longs, or grid) How the target may be marked (smoke, laser TISL code) Location of friendlies Egress direction (threat avoidance) In the current version of Lock On we can’t punch the co-ordinates of the IP or target into a nav computer but we can make use of the programmable steer points (which can be positioned in the mission editor) and the information provided on the HUD and HSI. Reminder: in Lock On cycling through the steer points (SPs) is done simply by pressing the ` key (normally keyboard top-left) whilst in NAV mode. Note the indication in the bottom-right corner of the HUD and the needle pointer on the HSI. In this sample mission (here's the link http://www.the-eighth-art.com/A10MissionCASPushkino.htm ) you are just about to enter your Area of Operations (AO) to the west of Pushkino (SP2) with your wingman. An A-10 acting as Forward Air Controller is already on station looking for enemy units. The Army Liaison Officer is looking over the battlefield from his vantage point above the village of Vishennoe. Russian armour has moved into the area between Kolodeznoe and Emel’janovka and should provide plenty of targets. The first request for CAS from you might go something like this: “Uzi One this is Colt One One, I have trade for you: IP is at (SP3) Privol’noe (village on T-junction) Arrive at IP at 10:34 Hrs and neutralize enemy AAA so AH-64A helicopters can attack armour. Heading from IP to target is 287 degrees Distance 9 miles Elevation 164 feet Two enemy self-propelled AA guns positioned near main road At 45 16 56 N 34 34 44 E Target will be marked by laser Friendlies at Zybiny village 265 degrees, 6 miles from IP Egress to north to (SP4) If you want to try this type of CAS mission copy and print out the nine-line brief/s so that you have all the information to hand as you approach the IP. You could even make it more realistic by having another player acting as FAC read it to you. Visually ID the IP and start a stopwatch as you fly over it so that you can assess your range to run to that target. If you fly at 240 Knots you’ll cover a mile every 15 seconds. Second CAS Request: IP is at (SP4) Nizhnegorskij (town on railway line west of river). Heading from IP to target is 025 degrees Distance 10 miles Elevation 164 feet Several enemy rocket launchers located in an industrial area At 45 35 37 N 34 49 55 E Target will be marked by laser Friendlies at Nekrasovka village 095 degrees, 11 miles from IP Egress to south to (SP5), enemy ground troops around Nekrasovka are equipped with MANPADs. Third CAS Request: IP is at (SP5) at Zybiny village. Heading from IP to target is 260 degrees Distance 10 miles Elevation 230 feet Enemy helicopters refuelling at road bend on N side of Mel’nichnoe village At 45 11 56 N 34 25 12 E Target will be marked by laser Friendlies on hillside 235 degrees 4.5 miles from IP Egress to east to (SP6) as target is at the south edge of SA-8 SAM engagement zone. Forth CAS Request: IP is at (SP6) 2 miles south-east of Zybiny village. Don’t leave IP before SEAD Strike on SA-8 launcher at 10:55 Hrs Heading from IP to target is 285 degrees Distance 13 miles Elevation 164 feet Enemy armour at T-junction 2 miles south of Dokuchaevo village At 45 15 15 N 34 22 17 E Target will be marked by laser Friendlies on hillside 260 degrees 4.5 miles from IP Egress to east to town of Sadovoe (SP7) The above is a stripped-down view of Forward Air Control/Close Air Support so that it is doable in the single player scenario. On-Call CAS missions in Lock On lend themselves more to multi-player where the FAC can load out his plane with SUU-25 flare dispensers and LAU-61WP rocket launchers (select OA-10 AFAC - Night in the payload panel) and then mark the target with flares or smoke. Further and more detailed information about Forward Air Control concepts can be found at http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_092h.html Thanks to Mudd Glenn for additional input and corrections.
  11. I've produced a new nine mission A-10 campaign for Flaming Cliffs v1.11. Click below to find all the info and the link to download the zip file. http://www.the-eighth-art.com/A10OH.htm There is also a link to a page with French text for all you Francophones out there. I’ve made a point of not hiding objects and every mission is easily editable. If you want to remove weather effects, etc, declassify with Ctrl+SHIFT+D and enter password: Motherland. Mission 8 Interdiction at Krasnaja Poljana Day 4. 10:30 Hrs. A reconnaissance flight has spotted two enemy supply convoys forming up at the town of Krasnaja Poljana(SP3).

  14. It would be nice to see the wind having a greater effect on the smoke from burning tanks, houses, etc. At the moment its still quite hard to assess the wind direction from the smoke columns even when it is blowing a gale. Being able to work out where the wind is coming from will be vital for the forthcoming helicopter operations. Also, in the Mission Editor Weather Panel the wind is set by where it is going to; wind direction is more usually stated as where it is blowing from, i.e. 180/10 is a ten knot southerly. Come to think of it, a variable-with-altitude wind will wipe out our CCIP/CCRP bombing options. Perhaps we should wait until we get JDAMs in LO.
  15. A chart to supplement the one in the manual for RWR symbology would be very useful indeed. I put together a handy A4 word document TWS decode for LO/F4AF a while back. If you want to have a look click the Threat Warning System at www.the-eighth-art.com Ideally, any supplement should be nice and simple, on one sheet and use a larger/clearer font than I used so that the threat can be assessed quickly before it fires at you. Looking forward to seeing your work. DPS.
  16. I’ve read a few notes about missing objects in campaigns and in the one I built recently for the F-15 (see link below) it could cause problems where the objects are set as targets/mission goals. http://www.the-eighth-art.com/F15OC.htm To solve this problem as soon as you start a mission press F12 to see if the object/s are actually visible. If they are not press Esc, CLOSE then FLY. Pressing F12 again should reveal the bunkers, ammo dumps, etc. I’m currently half way through building a new A-10 campaign for v1.11. I couldn’t resist including a couple of Ka-50s. If you don’t spot them in time their AT-16 Vikhr missiles will make short work of you in an A-10 (in game). Chances of survival for A-10 against the Vikhr seem to be pretty slim.

Your call-sign: Dodge 11 Weather is fine, 40 F with sky clear. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker is currently on station (SP4 – SP5) south of the CAP location at 18,000 ft. Emergency landing field: SukhumiAirport (SP3). Your call-sign: Pontiac 11 Weather is fine, 45 F with sky clear. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker will be on station (SP4 – SP5) at 11:25 Hrs 40 nautical miles south of Jalta at 20,000 ft. Emergency landing field: not available. Your call-sign: Uzi 11 Weather is fine with scattered cloud at 3,000 ft, 55 F. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker will be on station (SP4 – SP5) at 10:10 Hrs 40 nautical miles south-east of Alupka at 21,000 ft. Emergency landing field: not available. Your call-sign: Colt 11 Weather: overcast at 2,000 ft, 50 F. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker will be on station (SP3 – SP4) at 11:40 Hrs 100 nautical miles south-east of Jalta at 20,000 ft. Emergency landing field: not available. Your call-sign: Pontiac 11 Weather is fine with scattered cloud at 2,000 ft, 55 F. Emergency landing field: SukhumiAirport (SP7). Your call-sign: Chevy 11 Weather is fine, 45 F with scattered cloud at 3,000ft. AWACS available. If required, a KC-10 tanker will be on station (SP3 – SP4) at 10:40 Hrs 70 nautical miles south of Kerch at 21,000 ft. Emergency landing field: SukhumiAirport (SP5). etc, etc...
  19. Good one, bSr.L()Csta. I like the way that you have presented you mission reps. On my keyboard, which has the separate Insert, Home, etc keys, Page Up (not the PgUp key) is mapped for simultaneous engine starts. I’m currently working on a new campaign for the F-15C (easier A2A refueling). It is the first one that I have built from scratch using v1.11, so I have made use of a couple of the new features available in FC. This time every object will be visible (no hidden SA-16S!!) in the editor so users who want to simplify it can remove items as required. For those who fly with labels off, full weather effects, etc I have pitched the campaigns to be slightly easier than those provided with the CD/DL. I have placed the more demanding missions at the beginning of each campaign, so that players are less likely to spend hours working through the game only to find that it is impossible to finish. My new F-15C would have benefited from some UN skins – but that’s another story.
  20. I put a guide to Su-33 air-to-ground ops up on my web site a while back http://www.the-eighth-art.com/Su33A2G.htm It is based on the Su-33 as it was in v1.02 and ED have made improvements since then, i.e. you can now fire the S-25s as singles rather than in pairs only. The weapon is more likely to go where you want it to go if you dive at a constant speed with the aircraft in balance. Yawing or rolling the IP pipper onto the target at the last moment will probably spoil your bombing solution. Start your dive from 4,000 to 5,000 metres if there are any Stingers or AAA close by and drop plenty of flares. I'm not sure if using reheat during the escape manoevre will increase the probability (in game) of a Stinger or SA-16 hitting you. Perhaps someone else could answer that question.
  21. Most of the AGM-86s are heading towards targets in the northern Crimea, so just ignore them - they are somebody else's mission!! There are just two missiles coming your way. Switch on your radar and tilt it down a little. The AGM-86 will paint on the HDD. They fly in a dead straight line over water, won't take evasive action and have no ECM so they are easy to bag with a couple of R-27s. I'm not sure if AWACS will announce ALCMs as a threat. Perhaps someone could try it when they reach that mission.
  22. You could set up a second flight in the Airgroup Planning window, i.e. FLIGHT 2 OF 2 could be a couple of F-16s escorting a pair of A-10s. They would take-off from the same airfield and fly the same route. Alternatively, create a completely separate Airgroup (they could even depart from a different base) and plan their route so that that they will fly 20 miles ahead (and higher) than you. This method works best.
  23. It's a campaign file. If I remember rightly, each time you complete a mission it is recorded in your Log Book with the campaign name rather than the mission name. I think the only way to prove that you have completed a campaign is to take a screenshot of the panel with the 'Campaign Complete' window. The campaign is probably slightly easier than the ones that are provided with the sim, although in FC v1.11 the Hose-and-Drogue Air-to-Air Refuelling in Mission 8 will require some work. Good luck.
  24. Ever tried shooting down a cruise missile? I've produced a new eight mission Su-33 campaign (based on one I did for v1.02) for FC v1.11 and in Mission 5 there are a couple of AGM-86 ALCMs that need to be destroyed before they hit your base. Click below to find all the info and the link to download the zip file. http://www.the-eighth-art.com/Su33OB.htm If you want to remove weather effects, avoid the Hose-and-Drogue Air-to-Air Refuelling in Mission 8, etc, declassify with Ctrl+SHIFT+D and enter password: Motherland. The campaign/missions are as follows Mission 1 Strike at InkermanBridge Summer 1995. The Great Patriotic War has entered its 55th year and the Western Allies are threatening to overrun the Crimea. American and German forces are established along a front stretching from Jalta in the south to Dzhankoy in the north. The German 46th Infantry Division has just brought its armour ashore overnight and will undoubtedly move it up to the front to reinforce American units already in the area. The aim of Operation Blacksmith is to weaken the enemy in the southern Crimea. You are to lead the Russian Navy 279th KIAP 1st Squadron flying Su-33s from the carrier Kuznetzov which is currently steaming in the eastern Black Sea. Day 1, 08:00 Hrs. You are about to launch from the deck of the carrier Kuznetzov to destroy the railway bridge south of Inkerman (steerpoint 4). If you follow the pre-programmed route you should stay just out of range of the known SAM sites that are defending the Sevastopol area. Commence your run-in from steerpoint 3 and attack with your S-25 rockets. Enemy troops in the vicinity have Stinger missiles so don’t spend too long below 3000 metres and fire plenty of flares. German Air Force F-4Es may be patrolling in the target area. Weather fine with scattered cloud at 2000 metres. Temperature 20 deg. Tanker and AWACS not available. Mission 2 Kh-41 Anti-shipping Strike Day 1, 13:30 Hrs. The frigate USS Oliver H. Perry has been providing enemy forces with an anti-aircraft picket off the coast at Alupka. All four Su-33s are on the deck of the Kuznetzov armed with Kh-41 Air-to-Surface missiles. Launch immediately and follow the pre-programmed route. Attack the enemy ship at steerpoint 2 (approximately 120 Km from the target) and recover to the carrier. Weather fine with scattered cloud at 2000. Temperature 22 deg. Tanker and AWACS not available. Mission 3 Redeployment to Kyrmsk Air Base Day 1, 18:45 Hrs. You and your wingman are to redeploy to Kyrmsk Air Base to support ground attack squadrons already operating in the area. Destroy any enemy aircraft that you encounter en route. Weather fine, sky clear. Temperature 20 deg. AWACS available. Tanker not available. Mission 4 SEAD Escort Day 2, 09:15 Hrs. You and you flight are dispersed around Kyrmsk Air Base ready to depart on a SEAD mission against a Hawk missile site that has been set up on the western outskirts of Simferopol. Start engines and depart with the Su-25 SEAD strike aircraft and ensure that they reach the target area safely. USAF F-15Cs may be patrolling over the western Crimea. Weather fine, sky clear. Temperature 10 deg. AWACS available. Tanker not available. Mission 5 AGM-86 ALCM Shoot Down Tip: If you don’t want to fly this mission press Esc, save the result and move on to Mission 6. Day 2, 14:00 Hrs. The Americans have started attacking our Early Warning Radars and airfield assets with AGM-86 Air Launched Cruise Missiles. Start engines and depart along the pre-programmed route. It is unlikely that you will be able to intercept the B-52H launch aircraft but you should be able to shoot down any missiles that are heading towards Kyrmsk Air Base. Weather fine with scattered cloud at 1500 metres. Temperature 18 deg. Tanker and AWACS not available. Mission 6 Battlefield Air Interdiction Day 2, 17:10 Hrs. The German 46th Infantry Division has just commenced a major push to the south of Bahchisaraj supported by USAF A-10 aircraft. You and your wingman are to take-off immediately and search for and destroy any enemy units that you can find between the towns of Bahchisaraj (SP2) and Inkerman (SP3). Do not attack any westbound road traffic as there are many civilians fleeing the area. Gepard mobile air defence systems are also being moved up with the 46th Infantry Division. Weather fine with scattered cloud at 1500 metres. Temperature 18 deg. Tanker and AWACS not available. Mission 7 Close Air Support at Levadki Tip: first take care of any enemy air defences so that your wingman will concentrate on the mission. If you use up all your ordnance go to Kirovskoye Air Base to rearm. Day 3. 07:30 Hrs. American and German armour has been pinned-downed south of Simferopol. You have been given the task of destroying as many enemy vehicles and helicopters as possible around the town of Levadki (SP3). Gepard mobile air defence systems and Stinger SAMs are known to be in the area. Weather fine, sky clear. Temperature 10 deg. Tanker and AWACS not available. Mission 8 Return to the Kuznetzov Day 3. 14:15 Hrs. Fuel supplies at Kyrmsk Air Base are running low so you and your wingman are to return to the Kuznetzov. Start engines and depart along the pre-programmed route. You have less than 3000 Kg of fuel on board. A tanker rendezvous is planned to take place at 4000 metres 50 km south of Novorossijsk (SP2) at 14:30. After you have refuelled intercept and destroy the F-15Cs that have been patrolling 100 – 150 Km west of Sochi (SP3). Weather: shallow fog with scattered cloud at 300 metres. Temperature 10 deg. AWACS available.
