Hello and :helpsmilie: please. I am having this strange issue when trying to join any DCS multiplayer server - the game just stays on the 'Mission Loading' screen when I click the 'Join' button and doesn't do anything. I am connecting to the Master server alright, and can see about 60 servers with descriptions and everything. Ping is normal. No issues whatsoever in any other games, my router is set to DMZ for gaming. I was flying P-51 online before (1.2.3 version), everything was fine before. Obviously I tried searching the forums for similar issues and tried deleting the networg.cfg and network.valve files in Saved Games etc, but no avail. I also tried disabling the Windows 7 default firewall, I have no other security SW installed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as instead of :pilotfly::joystick: I am just .

please make the "auto rudder" a server set option

+1 on server enabled auto rudder -
Good luck mate! The Spec is specular file determining the matt / shiny surfaces and reflections of the finish.

La-7 made for DCS would have very little in common with La-7 from the Il-2 1946, why would you dislike an interesting plane just because of its reputation from completely different sim. P-51 in DCS is also way different to the 1946. La-7 is a beautiful plane imho but I would rather have the La-9 / 11, with the F-51 already in game and F-86 and MiG-15 announced, Korea scenario would be possible.

Oh not at all, I am glad it's alright

I am sorry to hear that :(, I had the same issue (and got confused when I trimed nose up and my left wing dropped) and I did some search on the forums and this advice helped me. The cockpit animations were also correct, just the effect and the forces in the FF stick were off. I suggest you try again with the axis tune, I am quite positive that's the problem. :joystick: That would also explain why an non FF joystick worked fine for us. Good luck with that though, it's a weird bug for sure.

gavagai I already replied regarding how to sort this out - I had the same issue with MSFF2: See here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1705727&postcount=8

Hi mate, it's very easy, I suggest you follow the tutorials and the little campaign, it's awesome! All weapon systems are located on the middle dashboard underneath the main instrument panel behind your stick. You can also switch your guns and gunsight (+camera) in there and the rest of the switches are for bombs and rockets. There is one 4 way switch which selects rockets (up) or bomb train (middle left) or bomb both (middle right). Default is the middle position which is none selected / safe. When you press your secondary weapon release button, what's gonna happen depends on the position of this switch. (Default key is '8' iirc) The bombs the do have two 3 way switches each: safe / arm / release. Left bomb rack is key 6, right wing bomb rack is 7. So you arm them and then select if you want to release them both in the same time or one by one and that's it. Same switch works for the external droptanks hence the 3rd option/ Default setting is safe (middle position). Then you have rocket controls (delay / ins.) and reset counter but that's easy to figure out. Hope that helped.

TD really fixed the AI in the latest patch, you'd be surprised (and challenged!). RoF I found too easy, just flying spirals into the ground. The Mustang is not too difficult, but I remember it used to be with the 'cheating Terminator' AI in beta version. :joystick:
-
I had this problem too, mate. In axis controls, pick aileron trim, click 'FF tune' and chose 'swap axis'.
-
I agree gavagai, no rudder trim is actually easier for me. I remember though that in the beta version of the game, it was a bit more difficult to take off without the 5 degrees rudder. The tutorials have been created in the very beginning and I guess some things have changed since. The tutorials are superb and well worth going through as I see lots of new pilots struggling with the startup posting on the forums. I do know your nickname from RoF ;)

Start with less power (40 or 45) and focus on the rudder work, if you know how the plane behaves it's easy to predict. You will be able to take off with bombs and rockets at full power with in a nice straight line with a bit of practice. That's what makes the fun here :pilotfly:
-
Tango, this is certainly a wrong assumption, the RL Mustang was not easy to start from cold and several attempts were often required. (It will be even more fun when we get the P-47 by any chance with the crazy inertia starter :megalol:). I found that when you prime the engine enough you will have a great chance starting it OK anytime. Perhaps that will help.
-
Hi Tango, I have 99% success startingt the engine every time from cold start, make sure you keep the primer pressed for long enough, around 5 seconds. I will watch the track you attached later.

Hi mate! There is a proper training including P-51 cockpit familiarisation and startup procedure with the instructor's voice explaining everything, you just follow the process and click the items he indicates. If you still struggle: Make your way from left to the right Flaps up Carb Hot air lever to the front Ctrl+H Rudder trim +5 degrees (twist the trim to the right) Prop pitch fuly forwards Throttle 1-2 inches open Fuel booster on (Delete) Magnetos on Both (Press End repeatedly) Parking brake (pull the lever towards you and hold it, then press brakes fully (W), release the brakes, release the lever) Fuel cock on (Shift + Ctrl + T) Fuel tank is already at Left Wing Tank Battery and Generator (B, V) Primer (Insert) for about 4-5 seconds Starter (Home) click once (cover up), then hold for about 2-4 seconds, engine will start Mixture to RUN (M)

how to get the most out of the stang?
Robo. replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Yes that is exactly how it works - Up = auto, down = manual / neutral position. In down position you can move the shwitch back and forth to close / open the radiator. It will jump back to neutral position when you release the switch. You're spot on! -
Thank you very much! Sorry I didn't realize there was another thread. It's good to know how exactly the guns are set on the sim, I agree 1000ft is very far for aerial combat but of that was the RL standard we'd have to deal with it, fair enough.
-
This might help - it would be good to know which pattern is modeled (if any) and we should be able to adjust it to our preference.

Yo-Yo I do understand :smilewink:, I just wanted to point out on the specifics of the P-51 radiator design to David without going into too much detail. I am back to the P-51 after I was flying it a lot in the beta version, there are certainly many changes and improvements since then (FF and proper overheating effects for one) and I enjoy it very much again now and I find this thread very useful. Thank you very much! -

Robo. replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
No, I mean open  Just noting to David that the Mustang coller design was different and very specific, and some of the rad flap drag is cancelled by Meredith effect. So you don't have your usual linear case of radiator more open = more drag. Just as you stated, it gets even more complicated with the aftercooler etc. -

Robo. replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Nice thread David! The Mustang is a bit more complicated in this aspect as it had some use of Meredith effect and the scoop was designed to produce some thrust with rads open. -
The Specular Lighting Thread: For Skin Artists
Robo. replied to -Rudel-'s topic in Liveries/Skinning
Whatever works best for yourself. I'd prefer to create a specific grayscale dif map based on each skin, it's not too difficult and you will need to tweak the contrast and so on anyway for best results. But of course you can do that per layer, there is no problem with that and you might get better control of the various surfaces and tweak it that way, e.g. panel lines and small details complete separate and then export. Entirely up to you. Yes please, if you can add anything or share your experiments that would be great! OldCrow - thanks mate but I can't take any credit for that as it's really pretty straightforward stuff based on what was in the PSD template (SPEC group) and what has been observed in the default skins. I am glad that helped though and I hope we'll see many Pony skins...
