  1. It would be best to model realism even if it results in one side being clearly superior. It is up to the mission builders to then balance red vs blue by giving other advantages to the inferior team. If ED is nerfing either side in the interest of "balance" well then we may as well all go play bf3 because this game would no longer retain the realism that sets it apart from every other pc game on the market.
  2. In previous versions when clicking the 'fly mission' button on the left side of the mission editor UI you were asked if you wanted to save the mission, then when answered y/n the mission editor would launch the currently loaded mission. In 1.2.3 you now have to click this button twice. Once to prompt the save dialogue and once more to launch the mission. Seems misleading to have a button that says 'fly mission' when all it does initially is 'save mission'.
  3. 1.2.3 A-A Missiles still not right Firstly, ED thanks for all the hard work you've put in to the sim and patch 1.2.3. I was excited to test out the new missile dynamics but found one glaring problem: The A-A missiles are all still not quite right. Fired against non-manuevering targets, all missiles seem to do a great job during the initial launch stage of calculating a lead pursuit trajectory so as to anticipate where the target will be at time of impact. However, once the missiles have expended their fuel and begin decelerating they seem to lose that lead pursuit trajectory and slowly fall further and further into a trail pursuit. The result is that if a target is travelling perpindicular to the launching aircraft any missile fired at medium to long range will impact the target aircraft nearly sideways. This results in a whole bunch of unnecessary drag on the missile. Having never fired an air to air missile IRL I cannot say for certain that this is a bug. However, I would think that modern missiles should predict their own deceleration before it occurs and build in additional heading correction during the initial burn phase to compensate for that planned deceleration before reaching target. This would ideally result in a missile impacting at a 90* angle when fired at a perpindicular target. Edit: The images below illustrate the current model's tendancy to go 'trail' pursuit on a non-manuevering target during the deceleration phase. As the missile gets closer it continues to fall behind and continuously steers itself to correct before impact. This results in too much drag and reduced range. It should be able to impact a non-manuevering target with very minimal steering correction in the deceleration phase. Again, this target is not manuevering. Yet the missile ends up impacting it at >45* steering correction even though it was launched with the steering dot in the center of the ASE circle.
  4. Christmas flashback
  5. Does not work. Applies 1.2.2
  6. Hey Rhinox this is all much easier if you just jump on the fanboi bandwaggon. Its all good brah! You should be happy to give ED money because they are the only ones producing this quality level combat flight sim on the market. Direct the hate at EA or Ubisuck mon, aint nobody got time for that
  7. Being developed: F-15C F/A-18C SU-27sm

  9. And only lose about 3 pounds of nuts and bolts per minute running at max speed.
  10. Take my money, thanks.
  11.
  12. Does running the engine cold cause any harm in DCS? Does opening the actuator doors create drag in DCS?
  13. I agree. I guess my original post was asking if there were negative effects modelled in the sim that result from running the engine too cold - but the larger point that you hit on is the level of effectiveness of the coolers in auto mode. Based on my testing at time compression 20x in single player just flying around i was not able to overheat an engine with coolers full open at 61/3000. In auto, the engine failed. So while it would be nice to have an official response, test it yourself and see if you get the same results.
  14. that logi x3d pro is a good stick for the money. you may have sensitivity issues with it once the innards start wearing out, but you can buff most of that out with deadband and sensitivity settings. Good choice.
  15. You are going to pay a huge premium for that brand - and its not even alienware anymore. Its a label on a dell product, which im sure you know. If you are dead set on paying for a premium brand check out digital storm. The hardest part about building it yourself is correctly applying the thermal paste, which there are dozens of videos on youtube to cover. It all snaps together like legos man, and you'll get so much more bang for your buck.
  16. Thanks sobek, do you happen to know if that is modelled in the sim?
  17. Does anyone know if there are any adverse effects resulting from running the oil/coolant radiators wide open full time? I'm thinking drag, but thats about all I can come up with. I've noticed in automatic mode, the oil temp particularly will push redline at 46"/2700rpm and 200kias climb. You would think that when the oil temp is pushing redline the doors would open a bit more in auto mode, but strangely I am able to achieve additional cooling by going manual and opening them up myself.
  18. i've gotten ground returns off the rear aspect radar at 4k agl, but also had a f15 on my 6 for about 3 minutes before it rang out to me. The other guy laughed at me.
  19. Excellent point.
  20. The 2500k is an i5, just dont want the poor guy to go looking for the i7 version of it lol. Generally, the only difference between i5 and i7 is hyperthreading which is not used in many applications and small (100hz) bumps in factory clock rates. I agree the 2500k is a great CPU, and an excellent overclocker. If you are not interested in overclocking i'd recommend the i5 3570 (without k). For your video card i'd agree with this poster that GTX580 or better is the way to go. SLI is not worth your time, especially if you play multiple games. Most hardware websites recommend picking the best single gpu card you can afford, I would agree. I got the gtx680 and love it, in DCS my frames usually stay locked at 60 but can drop to 30/40 in heavy smoke or close to ground combat. Also when purchasing your video card, the amount of VRAM on the card should IMO be no less than 2gb if you plan to play in 1920x1080. I've seen my card normally consume 2.3-2.4gb vram at that resolution on a single monitor. tl;dr CPU: i5 2500k (if overclocking) i5 3570 (if not) Mobo: z68 or z77 respectively, look for best reviews. RAM: 8gb+ ddr3 1600 (no need for higher mhz) GPU: Nvidia (raedon's have anomolies in dcs) GTX 580 or GTX670/680 2gb+ Joystick: CH Fighterstick or Thrustmaster HOTAS warthog (discontinued?) AND Samsung 830 series 256gb SSD for your OS, DCS, and a few of your favorite games.
  21. I actually have a stutter once every 3 seconds that began with these beta drivers. Only in DCS. BF3 etc they seem fine. GTX 680.
  22. Anyone see their system requirements? Recommended System Requirements Flight Simulator X Installed: FSX Gold (Sold Separately) O.S.: Windows® XP (SP2) /Vista/Windows 7 Processor: Intel Pentium® 4 2.8 GHz or equivalent RAM: 1GB Video: 128MB NVIDIA GeForce® 6800 or ATI® Radeon® X850 Disk Space: 16GB available DirectX: DirectX® 10 Optical Drive: 2X DVD ROM Audio: Headset (with microphone)Connection: Broadband DSL/Cable Seriously? I dont even think that computer can run windows let alone fsx. And this is the "recommended" system. lol.
  23. Yup I think you nailed it. OP is probably upgrading from a much prior version where those MFCDs lit up automatically with CICU. Now you have to click the power knobs at the bottom left corner of each mfcd to either day or night as they are turned 'off' by default.
