The truth of the matter is that the US DoD is so invested in this project that they don't have any alternatives. Lockheed Martin know this and are exploiting it. In the '60s this wouldn't have happened, a) because there were more defence contractors and more options, and b) because the CIA would have head-tapped them or at least they would been sufficiently concerned by the prospect.

Fully aware of that. My point was that depicting the range of the Boeing ABL as being greater than LRAAMs (300+km) was like depicting a laser pointer as being capable of CIWS duties. If the ABL worked from that kind of range it would never have been scrapped.

So that explains the upside-down logic.

The amazing airborne laser that's going to out-range AAMs like R-172s and R-37s.:lol: Next up, how laser pointers will be converted into CIWS systems and used to shoot down cruise missiles.
