To get into VRS you need 3 things to happen or be in the right place. Rate of decent greater than 300ft per minute, airspeed below 30kts and power applied. If you remove anyone of these 3 things you won't tend to get into it. When demonstrating this real world with students I used to climb in to at least 2-3000ft and put it into a high hover. Then slower reduce the power until you RoD is above 300fpm, then slowly increase collective and wait until the RoD increased and started to feel vibrations. To get out of it you reduce collective and push forward until the rotor disc touches the horizon and build up forward airspeed. When above 30kts and increasing slowly pull back in collective and start to climb away again. By this point you could be near 1000ft if you let it develop enough. I haven't had chance to fly the DCS Huey so can't comment on how it handles it, but it is very difficult to simulate this due to the factors involved that create VRS in the first place. BR Rich

Great stuff, we're all staying there as well!! Should be a great weekend, we are just finishing up the setup and testing of the B206 cockpit!! See you there, and anyone else going down to the show, please make yourself known!! BR Rich

No news on the Huey Collective or KA-50 stuff just yet, but the Huey cyclic is ready, it's just simple change in the cyclic shaft. We are just getting some orders out of the door at the moment and also having a few printing issues that are causing some delays. We are also trying to feet ready for a show at Weston next weekend. So we haven't had much time for development on new stuff. But hopefully that will change in a month or so. Follow our Facebook page for updates and on twitter!! BR Rich :joystick:

Thrustmaster: F/A-18c Grip for Warthog?
KomodoSim replied to Ebs's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ahh nice one!! That could open up the whole project!! Cheers Rich -
Helloooo!! I've started this thread to see where to go and what we can do and see what people want in the way of custom flight controls for fixed wing aircraft. We can pretty much design anything, as long as we have pictures, drawings and dimensions etc.. The main options we have are;- 1) Make exterior shells that can be used on the Warthog using the Warthogs electronics. The issue with this method is that you won't be able to quickly switch grips if you switch aircraft. 2) Make our own base unit and then a range in interchangeable grips that can be quickly switched when you change aircraft. We are open to other ideas to get the best solution. So feel free to ask any questions and we'll see what we can come up with. Cheers Rich

Thrustmaster: F/A-18c Grip for Warthog?
KomodoSim replied to Ebs's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi Guys, I going to start a new thread for our custom stuff to discuss everything there. That way we can keep everything in one place and discuss what's the best option for people and see what the highest demand is for and ultimately produce what you guys want. Cheers Rich Link to thread. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=102978 -
Hi Guys, Sorry missed this somehow. Cowboy10uk, I've sent you an email mate!! The Multi-Grip 206 and 350 Cyclics are ready to order, along with the 206 Collective with the 350 collective ready very soon. Work then starts on the Huey and KA-50 Collecitves and Cyclics. These can be ordered anytime with probably a 4-6 week lead time form ordering on the Huey and KA-50 collectives. The KA-50 Cyclic will probably be a little longer as we design the trigger etc.. The wife and son are away all week so hoping to get a lot of design work done and completed. Below is a printed AS350 Cyclic, needs a little finishing before spraying, wiring and sending off to the customer!! That will be you I believe Scudslaker!! BR Rich

Thrustmaster: F/A-18c Grip for Warthog?
KomodoSim replied to Ebs's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
We are 99% ready for our own design Multi-Grip system. The custom grips for the Warthog aren't ready. We are still working on whether its even possible to do. There is a circuit board inside the Warthog grip, if we can't reproduce this and get it talking to the main board in the base then we will have to design our own base unit. This then means its a totally new stick and defeats the object of custom grips for the Warthog. BR Rich -

Thrustmaster: F/A-18c Grip for Warthog?
KomodoSim replied to Ebs's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is something we are working on at Komodo Simulations. We are just finishing off a current project and then we will be working on a range of various grips for the Warthog depending on demand of what people want!! Let us know and we shall create!! BR Rich -
Hi Mark, We can offer any type of HAT swtiches you need. As long as we know what they look like we can design them and get them made. They are complete switches that just need wiring to a control board. BR Rich
-
Think the outside is now finished. Just need to hollow it out and put in the switch mountings etc.. BR Rich

Hi, We've been designing some new HAT Switches to use in our Flight Grips and thought it may be useful to offer these to anyone that may want them for their own DIY Flight Controls. We have 4 types at the moment, all 4 Way HAT Switches. See image below, we are also able to make any custom ones that people may want without extra charge, as long as they aren't too complicated and don't differ in operation. But can also make anything for a small charge if needed. These switches will be £10 each plus VAT (if applicable) plus P&P. We can take any orders now, please email me at sales@komodosimulations.co.uk for more details, requests or orders!! Cheers Rich

It will be first on the list for the fixed wing series!! As long as I can can either get drawings or pictures and dimensions anything is possible. We would do a new set of controls for fixed wing as you're right the collective to throttle transfer wouldn't be easy to do and would probably compromise the quality of each. Also I'm guessing you would want some self cantering on the stick!?? Our cyclic control doesn't have a self cantering system. BR Rich

Cheers, always open to ideas for other grips, fixed wing or rotary!! The whole system can easily be configured to work with fixed wing aircraft. :D BR Rich

Quick update, started work on the UH-60 grip. An early render to look at!!:D BR Rich
-
Latest renders of the B8 grip. Going to a test one made and then go from there! BR Rich
-
Little update for the B8 grip. These are early renders, there is still a lot of smoothing out to do as well as hollow out the grip and attach the adapter for the Multi-grip system. BR Rich
-
Can't you just pull the wheels out? As far as I know they are just a push fit into the stand. BR Rich

Hi Griffin, Thanks for the great comments. Nope knew nothing about the Huey before I came on here. All the controls were initially designed for FSX and the DodoSim 206, but always wanted to open up the market as much as possible and cover as many helicopters as possible. New ways in making the parts and my learning curve, along with my experience from my normal day job as a helicopter pilot, has allowed us to start producing the products we now making. The pedals themselves shouldn't really need any servicing. All the bearings are designed to be used on much more high intensity, with higher workload and forces that will ever be experienced in the life of them. They also use hall sensors so there are no moving parts to wear out that aren't mounted by a bearing. The pedals work in exactly the same way as fixed wing pedals would, they are just mounted and positioned for helicopter use. The only difference is, is that there is no cantering force. They will be fine for fixed use, I use them without issue when I venture to the dark side of flying. :D Just to help keep the saliva flowing, we will also be creating a Huey collective!! BR Rich
