  1. Here we go again ... P.S. :lock: perhaps?
  2. It should be worse :P
  3. AMRAAM PK is much more than 60% in the game ATM ...
  4. They were flying blind due to ECM and unbelievable numbers of jammers firing from all around Serbia during early stages of Operation Allied Force. The only clue was from GCI, and that was shut down within couple of days. ECCM were non existent. Radar on MiGs was blocked, Beryoza completely inoperable. Getting into the air was suicidal, for obvious reasons. R27 couldn't get a lock, so our pilots were trying to get within WVR arena and fire those heat seekers (a couple of R73, mainly old R60). Missile evasion was completely done by MK I Eyeball method (mind you, no lock warning, no radar warning, nothing - SPO15 were dead due to poor maintenance and electronics warfare going on) - you see incoming AMRAAM and evade. And all of MiG 29 pilots participating in '99 war were A-A inexperienced. In those circumstances, I think that (arguably,of course ) confirmed 12:1, or whatever AMRAAM ratio is, well ... average at best.
  5. Where the sim end and the game begins? We could probably agree that definition of a game is if there are no real world consequences for action taken. If you don't die in simulation for action taken, which would result in death in RL, then sorry, it's a game. End of story. And how we simulate physical stress on virtual pilots? ;) I bet that 95% of virtual pilots couldn't do 20 push ups and majority couldn't put on G suit because of overweight issue. Pulling 9G's? :megalol: Mental stress? So yes, DCSW is first and foremost GAME, albeit very realistic one. All missiles are unrealistic - it's impossible to make them realistic, software on them is higlhy classified on both sides, so devs are left with obsolete manuals, media reports and testimony from pilots participating in wars fought against 3rd world country airforces with obsolete technology. Reallity?
  6. Don't forget, there's fourth camp as well ... People mainly flying offline until missiles on both sides start acting as they should. Which lead us to:
  7. Like so :)
  8. Siberian riches are tempting, though  Anyway, every scenario placed in this region (like it is in DCSW) must include possibility of all out war between Blues and Reds. So it's good that we have Combined Arms in development (future SAM and GCI simulator? ;)).
  9. Yeah, true ... but USAF is much less operationally dependent on SAM's coverage and completely non-dependent on GCI. Design and technology of the US aircraft assure that. Don't forget that Russian doctrine is mainly defensive (I know, Iknow ... That concept is probably hard to grasp, but that's the state of the matter since collapse of USSR). That's the reason for busy development of state of the art SAM systems, short range interceptors, GCI and such. On the other hand, NATO side, being obviously offensive in the last couple of decades, is hugely handicapped in naval part of the equation. Every possible scenario of NATO intervening in that, or any other part of the World would include massive support of navy. So we need SAM's and GCI for Russian side and naval operations for NATO
  10. +100000000 Every realistic online scenario should have the GREAT EQUALIZER - S300/400 (and GCI, but that's not implemented ATM). That's huge part of Russian Air Defence doctrine, so it's very unrealistic (arcadish) to have Russian birds completely detached from real life operational environment.
  11. Have a look at attached configuration, it includes 4GB GTX 670 for $1,500. You can save $100 or so building your own machine. Check out these videos: $1500 system.pdf
  12. You will hardly ever see experienced MIG29 driver going head to head with F15/uber AMRAAM online. That would be foolish and noobish. Expect Su 27 head on, firing r27er to keep you turning, while MiGs are extremely low or high painting you with EOS - when in adequate range it's radar&R77 time. You won't now how/what happened if you're overconfident ... :D Moral of the story - do not underestimate inferior technology if operated by trained and experienced people ;)
  13. Well, we are talking several years from now. Graphics hardware and CPU should improve ... like five-sixfold
  14. Here you go ;) - SU-27SK manual in Russian and (bad) English translation - it's readable though SU-27 manual.rar
  15. KA-50 is Russian bird isn't it? SU-25T? ;) Extended user base (maybe it's hard to grasp, but there are people in the community who fly Russian birds exclusively and really are not interested in USA hardware that much) helped ED to survive over the years.... Of course, quality and all that is paramount (DCS has it in spades), but this (flyable Ruskies) is the only unique selling point for them. Maybe it's coincidence that they survived because of that, or maybe not, but they're here to stay, competition is non-existent ATM, and large part of the community demand further development of Russian birds.
  16. Good enough for fighter jet then - you know, budget cuts and all ...
  17. Hey, you can always use a super-absorbent adult diaper, the same stuff the astronauts use :lol::lol: Virtual combat pilot, all the way. War is not fun and there is nothing glorious about death.
  18. Jane made the same mistake as Microprose, imo - no flyable Russian birds ED proved that having good ole' Cold War tension in the community (NATO vs Russia) is very good strategy business wise. They're all gone, and ED is still chugging along! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
  19. I've been with Falcon 4.0 on and off since Microprose days - although phenomenal in some aspects it had one major flaw - only one plane was modeled to perfection and flyable. Yeah, in late nineties multiplayer gaming was not that big, but that philosophy sealed the fate of Microprose, imho. You have to have some form of fun built in simulator to keep attention (and continuous money flow) of people who, in general, are not switch and procedural freaks ;) It's a fine line between exclusive ultra-realistic simulator of one machine and multiplayer arcade for kids , and I think that ED got it perfect with Lockon series at the time. I'm almost sure that the best selling title ever was Flaming Cliffs 1 (I have my source, but don't quote me on that) Regarding numbers and voters; Don't forget the fact that majority of admirers of Russian birds come from non-English speaking countries. :)
  20. Nothing would beat complexity and thrill of possible scenarios within European continent. Plenty of water for naval warfare, terrain is varied, urban centers are huge ... I mean what's the fun in dropping JDAMs on goat herder's tent in a hilly desert? Hating goat cheese, perhaps? :D I don't get it, but to each their own!
  21. ... which is good, because responsible developer like ED must attend to customers complains, which in turn results in more features and better flight sim experience overall.
  22. Sterile in a sense that you don't have pesky MiG 29 flown by other human, breathing on your six. ;) Once you learn how to beat AI, you can beat him every time doing exactly the same - after a while, it's not fun at all. On the other hand, we can only dream about BMS Campaign. +1
  23. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1645481&postcount=5 It's coming! Great video.
  24. S 300/400 anyone? :P Modelling S300/400 (in Combined Arms ideally) would be great and final equalizer against 5th generation stuff :) Only needing KA-50 to mop the floor afterwards.
  25. That was my point as well. For nearly 20 years they had that market for themselves - basically modern Russian combat jets on the PC are ED's invention and identity.
