    Soul's Pit

Hehe :) I think I need to finish the pit itself off first before working on switch panels - half is naked ugly MDF atm and I need to make a proper seat out of foam (I'm using garden chair cushions atm). I've also got a cunning plan to mount the rear section on rollers so I can slide it back to get in then slide it all the way forward to be near the switchpanel ;)

    Stop it! :D
  3. I've only dabbled with it, and it's a good diversion from flying. I think I'll get into it more later when I've sorted my A-10 skills out :)
  4. In FreeTrackNoIR you can specify the dimensions of the clip and the positions of the LEDs (so come up with whatever configuration you like and tell the tracker). No idea if the TrackIR software lets you do the same? Otherwise I guess you could try bending to match the TrackIR clip but I'd be nervous given the wiring etc.
  5. /whispers "What's VRS?" :)
  6. Plus a TrackIR in the UK is £150. This is £25 and I have the camera already ;)
  7. I'll post up my thoughts once I've got it :)

Yes there is plenty of room for switches ;) I'm trying very hard to resist the temptation believe me! My problem with switches is doing it in a way that would work for multiple A/C though.

Don't think my TV had settings to do that stuff - it's a pretty naff tv :) Even if I sorted it out I'd still only have 1360x720 which isn't enough anyway!

So lots of the screen isn't hidden under the TV bezel.... If you don't resize to cope you can't see radio messages etc. Now I'm on a proper computer monitor with a decent resolution it's not an issue anyway.
  11. Um wow :D
  12. Wow thanks for that post Eno (Rep added :)) I guess my biggest concern is being looked down upon by those playing, or messing up their game experience. I didn't really want to get so into it that I can only speak as if I was a military pilot or get abuse for crashing or whatever. Sounds like the Firehouse would be accommodating, so perhaps that's where I'll start. I've got an IR clip coming and once I've got that zero'd in I'll try and come say hi :)
  13. Ahh ok - I guess I need to spend some time on my ramp start then as I've mostly been concentrating on in-flight systems use. I really would like to get into the MP side as I think it would really push the gameplay to a new level. Just need to find somewhere they'll be gentle on me ;)
  14. No, I was just slightly OT and talking about big TV screens in general :)

No the 30" was a 720p TV I had lying around. Thought it would give a nice FOV. But after you remove overscan the resolution left was something like 1280x650, which is terrible. The main menu of the game didn't even work properly. My 22" has 1650x1050 so while being smaller everything is much, much clearer in the cockpit. I want to put 3 screens up at some point but need to save up for that :)
  16. Ordered mine just now. Looking forward to much more stable headtracking! :D

Thanks guys! Spent a couple of hours re-doing my Helios layout last night to be more useful. So now have the CDU keypad on screen and some other stuff. I've had to replace that 30" TV screen with a 22" monitor for the time being though as I need more resolution. Will replace with bigger monitor(s) later. More photos to come as I work on the seat area as well :)
  18. Even doing the above I find using the mav optics really nasty. Any movement of the A/C and the thing is all over the place, and its much harder to make the target out compared to the TGP.
  19. Moved to dedicated thread here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114938
  20. Trying to export my A-10 RWR display but can't seem to position it. No matter what I set as the coordinates the RWR ends up in the top-left corner of my display. I've got this in my monitor lua: RWR_SCREEN = { x = 490; y = 1190; width = 170; height = 170; } Any suggestions??
  21. Yeah the individual parts are pretty cheap, but then I've got to spend the time making a frame, researching what spec LEDs and resistors to use, learn to solder etc etc By the time I've done that, £25 seems pretty reasonable :)
  22. Good point - I'd normally set up GBU-12 profiles etc on the ground....

Worth noting that I'm not going for realism with the layout (obvious from the Helios layout and the low MFDs) I guess. I put the MFDs down there as it was easier to run the cables away :)
  24. Thought I'd start a thread on my own 'pit. Basically it's an ABC, but I've modified it to fit a 20" LCD in the main panel along with mounting for TM MFDs. Also modified to get a centre stick using my TM HOTAS. Painted the front section grey and the panel is covered in carbon fibre vinyl which I think looks quite nice :) Now need to work on the rear section and make proper seat cushions!
  25. I found taking off quite tricky until I realised you need a lot of right rudder and then as it leaves the ground you need right aileron to stop the left wingtip hitting the ground :)
