  1. I found taking off quite tricky until I realised you need a lot of right rudder and then as it leaves the ground you need right aileron to stop the left wingtip hitting the ground :)
  2. LOL Thanks! BTW I'm learning the P-51 as well :D They were on sale so took advantage and it's nice to have a break from the A-10 to try new stuff out. I'm getting the hang of the Ka-50 trimmer button and using the autopilot so I've not shredded blades for a bit now ;)
  3. So if I join a server what happens next? If a mission is already running do you have to wait till it restarts? Or are there always A-10s on the tarmac waiting? If the latter how do you catch up with all the guys down-range? I'm wondering if I need to jump into a server where it's more a free flight / free targeting format initially....
  4. You're better off buying 3x 27" LED monitors for £200 each than buying a big TV for £500-600. Better picture, more pixels and you can arrange them how you want. The downside is you'll need a decent PC to run them......
  5. The problem with the big TVs is the resolution compared to screen size. You get very big pixels (I guess depending how close you sit), and sometimes overscan issues as they're not designed for computer use so much. I was using a 30" LCD tv but the game resolution I ended up with was something like 1260x680 which was too small for the main menu to work properly and had so few pixels that the game looked crap :) Currently using a 22" @ 1680x1050 but I think multiple screens is really the way to go, not one big one as you get loads more pixels to play with.....
  6. Interesting thanks Geert! I'm torn between getting one of these or building something myself :)
  7. Jeez it's getting to the stage where I need a kneeboard like I do when I fly for real ;)
  8. Just read this in the manual: So when I got my JTAC tasking I should have looked at the TAD for the red triangle? That would have made things a lot easier :D If that's the case, what do I need to do with the CDU?
  9. I've not got a problem with non-military A/C in the game. However would be a bit weird to see them flying about in an actual warzone (although you could pretend they're running weapons illegally or something). Imagine somewhere down the line when the whole of Europe could be mapped and played almost like an MMO. All the military pilots would be in war zones while the civilian guys are doing their thing in more peaceful areas. What would actually happen those is all the fighter guys would go off shooting airliners for fun ;)
  10. I think it's a very useful feature when learning. You're running in on target and you've got loads to do to get everything ready to drop ordnance. Once you get the hang of that though (especially if you have a warthog HOTAS ;)) then you don't need it anymore, which is a good feeling in itself....
  11. Ahhhh so I can enter those coordinates from JTAC and it will create a SPI for me or something?
  12. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=231047079283#description Anyone ever tried one of these, or got an opinion? I'm currently using FreeTrackNoIR with the face tracker but it's pretty jittery. FTNIR now has a point tracker in it though, and my PS3Eye camera should pick up IR leds, so that clip looks like much cheaper option than getting a TrackIR.....
  13. Thanks Eno. I do wonder if I should just take the plunge and try some MP, but it's pretty daunting! Looked at the server list and had no idea who was noob-friendly or even what happens once I get in the server. Any suggestions with where to start?
  14. Obviously not very exciting for all you vets, but I finally completed one of the instant action A-10C missions and with the labels turned off :) Was the second easy one in the Fall, and was trickier than the first one as en route to the 2nd target you near enough overfly the SAM from one of the later target groups. Caught me by surprise the first time! Basically strafed the first 2 target groups with cannon and rockets (including that pesky SAM), GBU-38 on the bridge from 10000' to avoid AAA then onto the tanks. First group was pretty easy, since I'd nailed the SAM earlier, but the 2nd group (moving convoy) was a bit of a challenge! Got tasking from JTAC but that just gave me a load of info I couldn't interpret, so took to scanning the road for movement. Much harder with no labels! Finally found them and managed to nail the first tank with an AGM to halt the convoy. Another AGM and 2 GBU-12s to finish the job. Such a great feeling to make it all the way, but just gives a glimpse of all the other things to learn (proper CMS, JTAC etc etc)
  15. Nice to know you can resurrect pilots ;)
  16. I bought A-10C through Steam a while back, but pretty quickly realised that with DCS you're better off running DCS World + Modules as a completely separate install......
  17. Ahhhh thanks for that - I never tried the full range so thought it had to be chosen manually :)
  18. I'm not sure I completely agree. I have the Warthog HOTAS and and got the P-51 last night, and while it's annoying mapping the buttons manually it's not that hard. You find the command you want to map in the list, you move across to find the column for Joystick or Throttle, double click the corresponding cell and press the button on the throttle or stick you want to use to assign it. It even tells you if it's in use for another action. You don't need to know what the buttons are called - you press the button and it gets assigned. The only thing you appear to have to know is the axis (as those you have to pick from a dropdown). Probably takes 30 mins to get set up, and having done so you know it's set up how you want it. Given the Warthog HOTAS is designed for that A/C, I don't think it's that surprising that you have to set it up manually for other A/C as each individual is likely to want to map the non-matching buttons differently. Just my 2c :)
  19. Oh ok I'll remember that! Cheers :D
  20. Thanks mate. I've always been a fixed-wing guy so this is all quite different :)
  21. Thanks! So basically you can't be too aggressive with it?
  22. Ah found for training :)
  23. I'm probably doing something obviously wrong, but since getting BS2 a couple of nights ago, nearly every flight I try ends up with me losing all my rotor blades and crashing. I've not figured out a pattern of what I'm doing at the time to make it happen, but is there a standard cause that you more seasons pilots know about? I've got the throttle set to Auto (which is just before the gate lifts up right?) and it seems to happen randomly when pitching or rolling. BTW I had a look in the Training section but doesn't look like there are interactive training like in the A-10C. I assume the 'Install (EN)' option is going to install videos like with the SU-25?
  24. So in the missions the enemy don't have objectives of their own?
  25. Yeah I'm looking forward to trying the KA-50 + CA. Should be a lot of fun once I've figured it all out :)
