  1. Great news H, look forward to it. Waistcat
  2. I can't get it to work either. Yet again I get the "no DCS detected" in the Voice Attack log and I'm asked to follow the steps on Page 33 of the manual AGAIN! I too have given up and await the next update whenever that may be.
  3. At the risk of repeating a similar theme, I too have have issues in which I can't communicate with anyone since I downloaded the F/A18. Prior to the last update and new module install, everything was stable (finally!!) now, as others have said, no indications of poor diction recognition via the Voiceattack log, the correct radio frequencies set, a succesful transmission acknowledgment beep when sent message completed, in game pilots voice issuing the the correct message and a full compliance exercise to the manual transfer as directed on page 33 of the manual. Only to have complete and utter silence as a reply. I have read numerous hypothesis here on what may be the problem but no definitive conclusion or fix. Hollywood - be good to get your thoughts on this as there seems to be a growing number of us experiencing the same problem. Your help would be much appreciated. Waistcat
  4. Thanks C, Worked first time, happy days! WC
  5. Thanks C, Is the saved game/dcs folder an auto generated folder? I don't have one or if I do i don't know where to find it!
  6. Hi all, Anyone experienced 1.5.8 not loading and if you have how have you fixed the problem? I try and run 1.5.8 but i only get to the opening screen (clouds and HUD with progress bar) the loading sequence goes to 57% on the progress bar every time and then stops. I then need to use the task manager to close DCS. I have uninstalled 1.5, reinstalled but still the same outcome and used the clean up and repair updater but still no change. Help anyone?
  7. Hi Fellas, Maintaining the VR cockpit detail, will we have a VR pilots body in the Harrier? With VR I find the immersion value higher with a virtual body. It seems pointless IMO to go to the greatest of lengths to capture the detail of the cockpit only to have an empty seat whilst airborne. To me, at this point, the reality then goes straight out the window (or should that be canopy?).
  8. Hi Hollywood, I got your PM and tried to reply. you got this Hollywood_315 has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space. Looks like its time for clean up! Anyway you nailed for me. The active windows was incorrect and I'm good to go now. Thanks again and looking forward to 2.5..
  9. Hi Hollywood, That didn't solve my issues I'm afraid, still getting the failed to start message. The run as administrator wasn't checked but having checked it, the problem remains. I did always run VA as administrator. Appreciate the help by the way. Waist cat
  10. Cheers Holywood, will do. Waist cat
  11. Hello and I hope someone can help me. I have suffered some of the same anguish and frustrations that others have in getting their Vaicom to work. I have struggled for days installing and then deleting and reinstalling etc. Not only that I have been through all 76 pages of this forum trying to identify the issues. I have followed them and the manuals etc. and I'm making progress albeit very slow. I'm at the stage where my hotas PTT works correctly. to get there I have the correct keyboard fix (UK board) I did the Static ATC Mod update so thought I should be sorted. However, When I enter a quick start mission to test (A10 profile in DCS 1.5) nothing happens when I give the command to "Start Mission". The VA log has recognised the command but I get the following error message in the log. In Nevada, when I press the PTT I get dumped out of the A10 and onto the ramp next to an F16! 22:14:46 - Unable to get a target for command '*Start*' (Global Level). Check the, 'Send commands to' setting above. Thanks Waist cat I can't go back through the 76 pages again and a search of the thread using the error returns nothing so here I am hoping its a simple error that I need to fix.
  12. I thought some of you may be interestd to see that the limited resoultion issues with VR is being addressed, or so it would seem judging by the brief article I came across today online. LG has filed for a Patent for technology to fill the gaps between pixels. http://www.inavateonthenet.net/news/article/lg-files-patent-to-improve-vr-image-quality?emailaddress=&utm_source=emailmarketing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=inanl20172609x2&utm_content=2017-09-29 Happy Days, Perhaps?
  13. As a UK Aircraft Handler who worked on the flight deck in a previous life, there are no visual aids other than the spot number that is painted on the deck which is assigned to the pilot on his approach call and the signals from the marshal. There was orientation lighting for night time opertions but not specific to a landing aid. In the UK in the days when we had a fleet air arm, the approach was flown at a specific height (depending on sea state) along the portside of the ship until abeam the spot and the pilot then would follow the signals from the marshal on the deck. I for one will look forward to honing my skills to follow that procedure although I'll have to imagine there is a mini me on the deck freezing his nuts off, soaked through from the spray in the 30 knot wind across the deck. Ah happy days.
  14. Yep, sorted now guys so a big thank you. Waistcat
  15. Thanks I will. Its about 32 degrees in my new dedicate DCS sim room so It will need to cool down up there before I get to do whats been suggested.
  16. Thank you all and a good deal of sound advice to follow. It's amazing just how much I have forgotten especially with regards to mapping the controls. Again, much appreciated. Waistcat
  17. Hello All, I’m experiencing a very odd issue with my new set up that I need a little assistance with. I have just installed a new rig in a new DCS dedicated room with a new Rift and oh my god what an experience!! However, I’m having a problem with The UH-1 in free flight (or the other "engine running" on start up missions) As soon as I click on to fly, the RPM’s drop, master caution comes on and I can’t lift off. I have an HOTAS and Saitek combat rudder pedals but I’d better explain they have been in their boxes for 4 years until I was able to set the new system up. So I have been away for a while and naturally forgotten everything about how to start the aircraft and with the rift a whole new approach is called for. Hence why I’m just getting to grips with the flying in free flight for now. Now here’s the odd bit. If I start the programme with the HOTAS's USB’s unplugged, the aircraft engine and RPM is normal. I can plug the USB’s back in and nothing changes, I can then fly. However, if I come out of free flight and then go back in again without removing the HOTAS USB’s I get the low RPM and master caution once again and I'm stuck at the end of the runway. I don’t get any similar problems in the A10 that I’m aware of (no new modules loaded up yet, neither have I loaded DCS World 2, NTTR or Normandy. As I said, I’v been away for a while!) Anyone have any idea what is going on in the Huey and how to fix? Thanks WC
  18. Well thats encouraging, thanks for that. It may be that I actually did the same when I first got them. I just can't remeber!
  19. Hello and thanks for reading this. For reasons I won't bore you all with I have had my HOTAS and Combat rudder pedals stored away until I could dedicate a space to the correct setup so I could enjoy the DCS experience as best I could. Well it’s been a long time coming and to give you an idea how long I have been away, the UH-1 had just been released! However, I have just finished a new building which has a dedicated room just for DCS. I have fabricated my own custom cockpit and configured it to take VR. My Rift is here and my system to run it is being built. I have been following developments when I could but now I'm about to dive in again. And its through the many, many pages on the Forum that I realise I have a lot to take in, not just in the flying but the technical aspects of the set up etc. One stand out issue I may have and this is a direct consequence of the absence, is my Saitek Combat rudder pedals and the software to run them in Windows 10. Windows 10 wasn't around when I closed the lid on my rudder pedals box so the software disc I'm assuming won't run and in any case I don't have a disc player in my DCS dedicated rig (why would I?). No problem I thought, Saitek will have the drivers etc. on their website. Wrong! They are now Logitech and they no longer support the pedals. For those of you reading this with the CRP. Is there a fix for this that you know off? Pretty much the pedals of choice back when I stopped but now there are more to choose from but with the expense of the metal to build my cockpit, the rift and a new rig, the coffers are empty for new pedals just at the moment so a make do is the only option. I made mention of the complexity of the system to run DCS & VR being discussed on the forum and the slightly daunting learning curve I just know I face. So if there is any UK based VR using guru who would be prepared to mentor me over the coming weeks and months, be glad to get a PM from you. Perhaps there are others like me waiting in the wings (no pun intended) for which a volunteer mentor would be a comforting thing to consult when things go pear shaped?
  20. Thanks Demon, Some good pointers to think on. I did mean the Z170 so atypo on my part. Man thats cold! Waistcat.
  21. Hello Doc, I didn't know about this site so I had quick look. My spreadsheet price compared to the price on this site is very different. I physically checked each site. (It was sunday, cold and I was bored!) Funny how they don't match but the site is very useful thank you.
  22. If you are thinking of building a new PC to drive your VR set up as I am (and it would seem a lot of people are), I did some research on prices here in the UK. This post won’t be that useful to most but I think it will help some here and perhaps demonstrate how fortunate you guys in our old colony are in term of cost. I decided to start spec’ing my computer that I plan to build myself for VR flying. And in doing so I have compiled list of hardware I intend to buy. This system will be dedicated to VR flying and won’t be used for anything else. I spent a day researching prices of the all the components I understand will give me a suitable system. Firstly this is my planned build (from scratch) I know there will be some who will say “don’t get that get this” but the budget isn’t a bottomless pit so I appreciate you might disagree. Case - Corsair Obsidian Series 450D High Airflow Mid-Tower Case Motherboard - Asus H170 PRO GAMING, Intel H170, S 1151, DDR4 Processor - Intel Core i7 6700K, S 1151, Skylake, Quad Core, 4.0GHz, 4.2GHz Turbo, 8MB Cache Memory - Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black, PC4-25600 (3200) 16GB Storage - 1TB Samsung 850 EVO, 2.5" SSD Card - 4GB EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW+ PSU - Corsair RM750x 750Watt High Performance 80 Plus Gold Cooling - Corsair Hydro Series H80i GT 120mm High Performance Multi CPU Liquid Cooler Optical Drive - LG 14x BD-R Blu-Ray Internal Writer Drive. None of this so far will be that useful but if you were thinking of doing something similar you may like to take a look at the prices I was able to find as I strive to get the best deal I can for those components I want. I have produced an excel spread sheet on the results I found but obviously there are probably far more variations out there. I used established suppliers as opposed to some guy on eBay for obvious warranty, returns and well, hooky copies reasons! Here’s what I found in summary. I should just say there is no Oculus Rift, no keyboard or mouse etc. The most expensive (from a single supplier) £1,470.34 The best deal (from a single supplier) £1,345.76 The best deal by using the cheapest of each supplier in my list is £1,313.89 I did a comparison exercise with just one US supplier and it will come as no surprise to those who live here in rip off Britain that the savings, if I was to buy the above system in the US, would be £234.86. I have to work in the US for a couple of weeks in June and as I’m in no rush to build the system I will source the expensive items on my list that I can carry back (CPU, RAM, SSD, Video card) in the US saving £139.79. So if any of our American colleagues would like to suggest good suppliers that I can compile another comparison spreadsheet, I can start to do the same exercise and perhaps save even more when I’m working in the US? (California) Obviously the conversion rates are at todays $ to £ rates so the figures may go up or down.
  23. I didn't assume - I just highlighted the issue as a possible interruption in production and asked the question.
  24. But if the crystal cove and the Dev kit share components???
  25. Oh huh - Get ready for a possible delay in getting the Oculas Rift on your head Looks as if the TiR5 gets a stay of execution then? Manufacture of Oculas Rift developers kits are being halted due to lack of components - As each region sells out - no more stock. Got to have a knock on effect downstream wouldn't you say? http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/02/24/oculus-rift-production-halted Waistcat
