I vaguelly remember reading somewhere that some of the late war D models were equipped with Dash9 merlin and many pilots reported achieving 75hg MP under WEP. Is that true? Or just some unverified rumor?
-
Changed it to longetative axis. It works better now. But the movements still don't feel as fluid as in other sims such as il2 and bms. I wish I could post a video but I don't know how to record ingame video.
-
You mean don't set z axis on zoom but rather set it on "cockpit longitutive axis"?
-
As I said in my original post, I do indeed have Trueview on.
-
Just wonder if anybody else has this issue. When I turn my head around to face the rear of the cockpit, z-axis got reversed (leaning away from the cam, you zoom in while leaning toward cam you zoom out). Unlike other sims such as BMS and il2, manuver your head into desired viewing position is extremely difficult and awkard. I do have my trueview on, and the problem still persists. I remember back in FC2, I had the similar issue and I had to tweak something to have it fixed. Also, is there a bug report thread somewhere?

Thanks for the tips. There is a lot of good infromation here. However, some of you said are not entirely accurate. In IL2, if you play CSP planes such as p51, your throttle only controls mp. And your pp setting will not change your mp setting. They are distinct. However, in real life, as well as in DCS p51, they are somewhat linked. If you want to reduce speed, you decrease your rpm first, that will lead to temporary increase of mp. Also, the way rpm is portraited in il2 is not entirely correct. When you shallow climb or dive, your rpm changes as well. In DCS, shallow dives and climbs will not change your rpm because of csp governor.
-
What buttons or wheels do you (anyone) use for your rpm control? I used 2 buttons back IL2 (1 increase the other decrease). But the mouse button on my throttle is not usable in DCS.(it's been bound to mouse). Anyway to decouple mouse key on my throttle with the actual mouse? I just want to use it as an ordinary button.

Thanks for all the great advice. I'll test them out. Like Thor said, I also feel the need to let plane find its way down. Not like IL-2, you can force landing by brute force lol.
-
Awesome. Thanks, this is what I am looking for. I'll try out your method. Just I got so used to rotary controlling trim, it would be hard for me to adjust. By cutting the throw, you mean put in a smaller saturation right? The default for both axis is 100.

Thanks for all the tips and advises. I believe my nose popping up and down issue is due to my elevator trim and control sensitivity. Would anyone mind sharing their elevator trim and pitch curves with me? I am not 2 familiar with this type of curve thing. I am using x52pro hotas and saitek flight rudder btw. Also I am using the thumb rotary on my throttle for elevator trim btw. If anyone has a good curve for that, I'll be more than happy to try it out on mine. Thanks.

Tried several landings, always bounces when touching down. I tried both 3 point and 2 point methods, still bounces. Another issue I have is when my speed drops below 150 IAS, my nose starts to pitch up and down, sometimes very voilent. Is there any trick to eliminate the nose pitching. Or should I maintain 150 until touchdown and then chop throttle and pitch up for a 3 pointer?

Yeah, problem resolved. It's the profile issue. I was lazy and used a downloaded profile from somebody else. However it is cause buttons not working. I recommend for the new players to set up for the first time to not use any profile first. Set up all the buttons first and then build a profile.

Then why skipped A8 and went directly to d9?

I find the smoke from P51's guns is so excessive. I tried to fire them on ground when there is no wind whatsoever. The white smoke is so big. Are these guns firing black powder bullets? Feels like I was firing a battery of machine muskets.

Nice tips. I'll go back double check on that later today. However, my issue is a bit more strange than what you said. For example, I pull down "all commands", then find "gun fire" line. I then double click on the corresponding cell in x52pro joystick column. It opens up in a new window with key you want to assign and modify keys you want to put in. If I now press my trigger button on my joystick, nothing happens. The blank doesn't get filled in. However, if I instead press the pickle button, the blank immediately gets filled by "joybtn2". If I manually click on the dropdown list, I can see 30+ buttons plus all the directions for POV hat 1. So I feel that my buttons are getting detected by the program, but somehow, something rendered them irresponsive.

I seconded that. I love the 4 cannon setup, feels like carrying a broadsword. It's also historically more accurate to have a8 than d9. Performance wise, A-8 is not an underdog at all. However, the key issue here is whether ED has enough reliable technical data on A-8.

I thought D9 has 2 center lined wing cannons and 2 mg on top of the engine.

Hey remember, RL FW190 might be a marvel of German Engineering, but DCS is undoubtedly a product of genius Russian Engineering. And doesn't matter how alienish the actual Dora might fly, if DCS models it a stall fest then it's a stall fest you will get. I bet people will bitchmourn about FMs when their favorite planes fly different from their existing biased experience, but ED will tell them "shut up unless you have flown the real plane"

In Options, under control tab, I select all commands and try to map some of the controls to my hotas buttons. The interesting thing is some of the buttons on my hotas don't get recognized while others do. For instance, my trigger is listed as button 1 under the dropdown list. But when I map it to gun fire, it doesn't work. However, the pickle button which is listed as button 2, works. So out of all 30+ buttons on my x52pro, half of them are responsive, while the other half aren't, but they are all listed in the dropdown list. I tested all buttons under saitek's control panel as well as other sims, all of them work. Just wonder if there are anything I missed to put in.

I think this poll needs a bit more specific. Are you talking about DCS pony vs DCS dora? Or are you just talking about these 2 birds in general? If you just talk about DCS pony and dora, it's hard to say cuz we have no dora to compare with at this moment. Some folks' love for dora might be based on their experience with existing sims. But how do you know the flying characteristics and physics are being accurately portraited by these sims? How do you know the DCS dora, when it comes out, will be a similar experience to what you are currently experiencing? How do you know the upcoming DCS Dora is not a trim fest? How do you know it doesn't have worse stall characteristics than pony? When I first flew DCS pony, I feel I am flying a total different plane even though I had accumulated hundreds of hours on il2 pony. Ranged from CEM down to trims, everything has to be relearned. Just like YoYo said in one of his posts on DCS spitfire, people who think p51 is a bad staller might think twice when they get to fly spitfire. Many of current dora lovers might not think the same when they actually got to fly the plane. Everything could change.

You have it mapped to your rotary?

Awkward trackir views when facing the rear of the cockpit
Pandacat replied to Pandacat's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I am using pro clip. I'll double check the convergence on those 3 lights when I get back tomorrow. My sensitive curves are pretty high. I could see the tail (180deg back) with only about 10deg of actual head turn. The funny thing is I use the current Trackir settings for both IL2 and BMS. Both these games work fine. I can look back, lean forward to zoom in and see the details on my tail etc. Also, my virtual head movement works as expected in the Trackir view. It is just this problem only occurs in DCS. Weird. -
Everything works fine when facing the front 180deg arc of the cockpit. All axis work(yaw, pitch, roll, x, y z). However, when I yaw my view past either +/- 90degrees to face the rear of the cockpit, views start to become awkward. I can see my tail, but I can't zoom in or out on it. I cannot roll my head either. X, Y axis also disappeared. Currently, I have my z axis set on zoom instead of cockpit longitutive control. My trueview is also turned on in Trackir. I have also tried to put it back on the default cockpit longitutive control, but it's still the same. Anything I didn't set up right here?
