  1. Ya, more aircraft, bigger theatres, a lot of explosions and fire. I am also dreaming a DCS future in pacific theatre with savage carrier battles.
  2. I just had my first landing in pony last nite. I got it on the first try, albeit bumpy. I saw pre-purchase for D9 is up. Soon there will be a lot of stall mates for pony to play with.
  3. Wow what a sensation! Feels like real flying. The only thing that keeps drawing me back to Il2 is there is plenty to shoot at. Whereas in DCS, I am just a lonely pony, occasionally picking on D9 dummies.
  4. Thanks for the tips. Just another thing a bit off topic here. I had some trouble with my trims (mostly elevator trims). In Il2, I mapped it to my thumb rotary. I find it quicker for me to adjust trim settings in combat than HAT and it works pretty well. But in DCS, trim feels a bit different. It always lags a bit. Say I want 2 notches down trim, I push my rotary forward about 2 notches, but the game responded a sec later. It makes my plane nose always popping up and down in an unstable manner. Is there anybody else who had success of mapping elevator trim control to rotary instead of joystick HAT.
  5. Just got my p51. Coming from IL2 background, just want to learn more about CEM in P51. The manual says mil power is 3000rpm+61mp, but you only have 15min of it, but 2700rpm+46mp you can stay on forever. So during a dogfite, should I stay in Mx contiuous most of the time, only tap into mil or wep for brief seconds? Or should I stay in mil most of the time and go wep at tight spots? I figure most dogfights last only for seconds up to a few minutes. 15min is plenty for it. Also, in il-2, when you get engine overheat message, you can cut throttle and reduce rpm to cool it down and the timer gets reset and you can go crazy on wep and max rpm again. In DCS, there is no such thing as timer reset right? 5min is all that you can get once you take off, right?
  6. This is like building a zoo. First you have basic environment set up and put in some popular animals. Let the fan base to grow and solidify then expand the environment and put in some more exotic animals. Have D9 in then probably start working on the map, some ground objects and a bit of AI units. Once you have these things in, you'll have a decent size pool for the trigger happy sharks to swim in. People would start playing online/offline missions, forming squadrons and attracting other potential fans to join. More cash would start flowing in. By the time they get bored with these basic stuff, you will have other stuff pretty much ready (109k, p47, 262 or even b17). This is similar to how IL2 developped. First start with very basic and then mature over time.
  7. "Both sims" meaning DCS world and DCS WWII 1944? So let's say DCS WWII will cost about $50 when it comes out and p51d module will cost about $30. In order to fly p51 in DCS WWII, i'll have to pay $80 altogether. But if I own p51 now, then when WWII comes out, I only need pay $50 for WWII itself? Is that how it would work in this scenario? I am trying to make sure that I don't have to purchase the same module again in order to play DCS WWII.
  8. I own DCS p-51D module. When DCS WWII is out, do i have to purchase it in order for my p51D module to fly into? Or once you own a DCS WWII bird then you are automatically eligible to fly in it? I asked around a bit. Some people said yes while others said no. So I am still unclear on this.
  9. I really enjoy reading all these discussions on how different AC compare to each other. I have also read that book about Johnson, back in my high school days. Speaking about nobody can outdive Jug, I can name a few. Both 109g10 and 190a8 under AI control can outdive Jug in IL-2 1946. Some of you may find it laughable, but that's a fact. I once bounced a flight of 109g10 from 29k down. Missed, but continued diving. My plane was already vibrating hard from high speed. But the 109 made a turn around and followed me into the dive and caught up from 1km away and shot me down. I was really stunned to see that. Also, some tactical question. So Johnson said he dove and extended away from spit. Then he yank the stick back to zoom up. Would it be more enege efficient to use trim to pitch nose up instead of yanking stick? From my experience of Il-2 or other sim, yanking stick into a zoom climb really kills a lot of energy. But the downside of using trim instead of stick is it is far slower to get your nose up. So which way would be the better of transitioning from boom dive into zoom climb?
  10. There are a number of 1v2 against Dora videos on utube. Try a player name soltyII. He actually implemented similar tactics as starkey but against 2 Doras. At even lower alt, I think. But Starkey did a great job BZing the dora and this video is very educational to pilots with less experience. It is common knowledge that AI is not perfect. I just hope when we get the game in the future, we won't have broken AI like those we encountered in IL2 1946. I agree we should build a thin margin of inferiority to AI since they don't need spend time to check their engine temp, their airspeed. Their control of aircraft and engine is instanteous. They have pair of eyes on the back of their heads. So if they have access to full aircraft potentials, they can beat aliens in their flying saucers.
  11. Yep 100% agreed. No matter how well you simulate, you can only apporach the real world not copy it.
  12. I bet Battle of stalingrad will give you a high quality of Yak-3 on par with DCS. If your computer can't handle it, you can still resort to IL-2 1946 for Eastern Front. As a matter of fact, IL-2 series is focused on Eastern Front. You don't need yet another high quality. I am also a big supporter of Pacific theater. A lot of water? yes. But you get Carrier ops, instead non-moving airfields. However, I support one thing at a time. Let's get Normandy/Western Euro up first.
  13. I was hoping someone would bring this up. Pacific theatre has always been an underdog in WWII sims compared to other theatres, especially in an era dominated by Russian game developers. Actually, this theatre is of great interest to many players. I hope DCS can take this theatre seriously.
  14. LOL, i misread his words. I feel the same way about p51. Feel more like flying. I wasn't a big fan of Jug either before. But once you know how to fly it and battle with it, you will love it.
  15. Oh, why not interested in P51. It flies bad in DCS?
  16. I am not that an expert on different aircraft. But isn't p-51D a bit outclassed by 109k? P51D is powered by 1700s hp engine while weighting for 3+tons empty but 109k has 1800s hp engine and weigh only 2+ tons. In terms of raw max speed, rate of climb and turn performance, I'd bet 109k is above p51D. However, due to different variants, I am not sure about p51D20na, 25na and 30na performance. Do they have a bit better engine? packwood-9 instead of -7 on early D models?
  17. You are right if talking about just one game. However considering the narrowness of WWII combat flight sim market, limited fanbase, and scarcity of the resources available, it's hardly a good idea to be a follower rather than a leader. Including planes already under development in BOS would do nothing good besides inciting more BS debates on which model is more authentic. I'd say what DCS is doing now makes more sense. Taking different niche of the market, avoiding unnecessary competition and being a leader in what they are doing.
  18. The cockpit looks great. However, I just have one comment. From my Il2 experience, a lot of cockpits instruments are extremely inaccurate, and somtimes even wrong. While instrument inaccuracies do occur in RL, this is however a game after all. There are inherent limitations in computer based simulations. For DCS, can we make sure that all gauges and instruments are accurate?
  19. Yeah, me too. I would love to see some pacific theatre stuff in the future. There have been plenty of euro theatre stuff in the past, IL-2, BOS and now DCS. Craving for some carrier ops.
  20. You have BOS. They don't have Yak-3 in there?
  21. If anything, please don't let us have IL-2 like AI again. I know Oleg is on the team again. LOL. Please no more AI flying straight into mountainside, no more constant midair accidents when flying in loose formations, no more rear AI guners equipped with sniper rifles. Please put some constraints on AI flying so that their machines also overheat, their planes also take time to trim, their aircraft are also subject to earthly gravatational force and air resistance. Screwed up AI can really destroy game immersion and make a delicious cookie taste like cardboard.
  22. Awesome, jug is one of my favorites. Btw, is jug gonna be modelled as 1 trigger controlling all 8guns or is it gonna be like that in IL-2-1946 where main trigger controls outter 4guns and secondary trigger controls inner 4 guns?
  23. Full realistic 8hr missions in and out of 3rd Reich might be difficult for human players sitting in front of their computers. Huge maps are definitely doable. That's not the issue. The problem is people have RL needs to attend to: bathroom breaks, house chores, meals and even wives and kids. How many 8hr missions can you play one day. What I suggest is something similar to an old game called Aces of Pacific created by Dynamix. You press a button, the game enters stasis and player teleports to next waypoint or target area with appropriate amount of fuel deducted. If your flightpath is crossed with that of enemy and an encounter occurred, the stasis breaks and fight starts. For multi-player, the system can assign tp ability to squadron leader or flight leader. So after everyone takes off and forms up, squadron leader tp everybody to next point. If the leader gets killed, the system auto assign that ability to next highest ranking "officer" in the flight.
  24. I fully agree to some has been said here. There are quite a lot of people who missed the kickstarter. I am combat flight sim fan but I don't check all the websites and youtube everyday. The promotion for kickstarter was quite subtle and its scope quite limited; only DCS fans were initially aware of it. I fully support B17 fundraising if there is going to be one. But just can't wait. I hope a lot more people will join to make this hot project really a beast.
