One question I do have though, I seem to remember reading somewhere that I should keep the rpm at around 2700? Seems that if I do I go way to fast and if I pull it down I slow down easier. Should I keep the rpm up or no? Because if I go on throttle alone even all the way back to almost zero and it seems I'm still going too fast. Maybe another glitch with my stick or set up wrong?

Here it is...notice my take off, I'm thinking its much improved :) The landing I felt was going well until I kind of got a little too happy I was on the ground and didn't pay attention to the slip indicator. :( Sorry I failed this one, but we will get there. On an unrelated topic I need to thank everyone for an unintended little golden nugget from all this. My 6 year old son was watching me play and learn and getting the hang of it so he started to try as well. So now I think we have gotten a new age of flight simmer started. He can even start the mustang on full real settings. Hes not too good at the hotas yet, but he can mouse click everything and get the plane started. I call him my ground crew :) I just wish he could reach the pedals and get his hands around the throttle a little better, a bit too jumpy for the trackir yet though :)

Awesome tips everyone. I appreciate it immensely, just wait until I get landings down (no pun intended) and I start asking for advice on how to stay alive and hit something online haha. Some of my sudden throttle movements are from my Saitek X-45 throttle that has unfortunately decided to get a mind of its own. Should have my Thrustmaster Warthog by the 25th so hopefully that will help me keep a little bit better throttle control. I'll give landing another try tonight soon and will post a video of however I do. See if I'm getting any better after a few days. I feel a heck of a lot more confident that's for sure. And believe me its come fast since all your help. Great community!

Thanks everyone for the help, here's a quick video of your tips coming to fruition. Its a landing like my high school girlfriends, maybe not the prettiest, but effective.

X45 deciding to crap out on me, finally ordered a Warthog
LC34 replied to LC34's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks everyone. No I haven't owned a Warthog before, had this Saitek X45 for about 15 years I'm guessing. Poor thing gave a heck of a run for the money. I hope that the warthog gives me the same amount of years and time. Especially for the price or the Mrs will kill me :) -
Well, my take offs now seem right down the runway, getting airborne no problems now, drifting or overcompensating a bit once in the air and going a bit right or left sometimes but, no wingman = no problems. Landings.....well I'll post another video if you guys want to see it go ahead. I think I'm going to keep tracking my progress (hopefully not lack thereof) with each video. I guess I didn't burn up the plane, just bent a wing gear in, so not a good landing, but apart from the wheel caving in the plane is parked and in one piece. Thanks again everyone for all the pointers, in just two flights using some tips I have seen immense progress, now in the heat of the moment if I could remember all the tips that would probably make me decent :) If anyone is having any trouble, I suggest listening to these tips on here, because its given me so much more confidence already. S! Everyone. Also, is there a good server to fly these warbirds on once I get competent enough? Maybe for some dogfighting (which I'll start on after I learn to land better)
-
Thanks everyone, my takeoffs now are straight as an arrow. I don't think I was setting enough rudder trim. Landings are still bouncy, but getting better. I don't think it's helping me that my X45 throttle has decided to do inputs anytime it wants, suddenly going to 100% power when I have it set at less than 50.

Finally got the guts to face the Mrs. and clicked order on a TM Warthog. Since my trust 12 year old X45 decides to do whatever it wants now. A few questions as I prepare... I have a few modules, the P-51, 109, Sabre, and FC3. Of course I know I have to buy the A-10C since, well you know I have the replica stick; apart from the Profiles by Polaris & SchniX which doesn't seem to have a few of the planes I have, are there some good profiles out there? I heard the TARGET system is tricky to work with. Also, anything I need to do after installing? Any maintenance issues that I should do before or is it pretty much a plug and play ready to go stick and throttle?
-
Thanks guys. I sure appreciate it. I don't know how I can land the 109 the way I do but in the p51 it makes me look like Ive never played a flight sim before :) I'll keep trying and hopefully be able to show some successful and then beautiful landings in the future.
-
I am getting the take off now, I wasn't letting the plane fly itself off the ground. However on landings, too fast? Tried trimming in other landings but, every landing is pretty similar to this one. Usually get a bounce, then a slam, then a burn or boom.
-
Boy this plane is giving me a run for my money. I am new to it but have gotten decent at take offs and landings with the 109, however with the mustang I bounce and skirt all over the runway on both take off and landing. Before I started it up I read many how to's and manuals for it, I thought the 109 was supposed to be a "tougher" plane on take offs and landings? If I post a link to me taking off and a short flight with a landing would anyone care to comment on what I'm doing so wrong? I have thick skin and know its all my fault but I don't know what exactly I'm doing wrong.

Went with the BF-109 simply because of having the TF-51 for now and enjoying a multitude of American planes with already owning F-86 and FC3 modules. I was also able to purchase the Museum Relic campaign for my F-86 as well. Thanks ED for the sales. Now the search begins for what module to buy next as I wait for the F-14 to arrive.
-
Which of the two seems the most stable in the air? I remember in IL-2 when I would turn in the P-51 it seemed to always want to go into a stall. Might have been my stick settings but flying level, then slowly turning would almost immediately brig about the shakes of an incoming stall. Again, could very well have been my stick settings, and or piloting ability. Or lack thereof :)

Yeah I know its an open ended question, and what one person loves another may hate, I guess my "bang for my buck" isn't set in stone either. I mostly play SP, but I want to go into MP once I get the airframe down. I always loved the campaign in European Air War and IL-2s campaign kind of disappointed me. I have the F-15 Red Flag campaign and love that so far after 4 missions. I guess I am leaning away from some of the modern airframes at the moment because even though I want to get them eventually, my HOTAS isn't set with the optimal button situation. So I'm saving for a TM Warthog and will go after the modern jets then. I want a module like the P-51 and BF-109 that once I do get the feel for flying it comfortably, I can go into MP with a group that is active in teaching me how to fly it better. I know that the WWII birds are getting a new map someday, so I know they wont be losing their luster anytime soon, and that's why I'm leaning towards them at the moment.
-
Thanks everyone. I do have rudder pedals but I think I'm leaning more towards either the BF-109 or the P-51. I could get the 109 by itself, or the P-51 and the High Stakes Campaign. I guess I am more of a turning fighter in most other games (IL-2, EAW, etc) so in that regard, out of those two the 109 seems to more "fit me." Even though its not a real turn fighter. What is the difference between the free TF-51 and the P-51? Just adding weapons? Maybe get the 109 to fight and learn the 51 with the trainer and take it on a big sale I suppose if the TF-51 and P-51 are essentially the same airframe? I love the fact that even as I get close to purchasing another module, the more I cant make up my mind on which one :) Gotta love DCS World!

Looking at a new module and just looking for most bang for my buck. Here's the ones I'm interested in and what I think of them, would love peoples opinions that have them. P-51- Love this plane, but hear some grumblings about the damage from the guns. I have the Sabre so I know its frustrating at times. Also with the trainer TF-51 already in game free does it add more than just guns to it? Huey- Very interested in it but my HOTAS isn't in the best shape (old X-45) so sort of torn about any helos even though I would like one in game. BF-109- A plane I also love, but having played it a TON in IL-2 series would it be best to get something I don't have so easily available? Black Shark- Same bad as huey. Concerned with my HOTAS setup, but it would be fun to fire some missiles and rockets at some AFVs. A-10C- I don't play the A-10A much, but one I wouldn't mind learning. Plus I'm going to get a TM Warthog soon. Which one do you guys think is something I can get the most casual return from. I'm fine with learning every switch etc but I was wondering what has most to it in terms of replayability and campaigns etc. Gift card burning a hole in my pocket and with a steam sale I could pick up two maybe if the prices are right. Appriciate any and all opinions and recommendations.

ok so I will just let it install where it is defaulted to. I just didn't know if I left that older folder there if it would make the install quicker as there might be files there already. I will probably just delete that older file and go from there. Thanks cthulhu68

After I had to uninstall version 1.5 I'm going through my files as it seems there wasn't a major change in SSD space after the uninstall. I see I have a folder C> Eagle dynamics> DCSworld2OpenAlpha. I know that is were my NTTR map and red flag campaigns are. Then I see this folder C>DCS World file size is 12.3 GB. Is this where 1.5 was before the uninstall? Everything in there is .bin files and a couple of applications DCS World 1.2, F-86 1.2 and FC3 1.2 If it was, to reinstall should I just install it right to this folder? Or would it be best to delete this entire folder and start from the beginning? Obviously I wont touch the open alpha folder as that is the 2.0 version of DCS world. I just made a mistake and deleted 1.5 thinking I didn't need it

Zoom Function on X-45 Rotary Switch
LC34 replied to LC34's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Dang I'm sorry to hear that. I'm at a crossroads, playing with that zoom really helps me with my poor eyes, so I decided to save up for an Oculus Rift to both help that and the immersion of the sim. Now with my X-45 just seeming to be a little on the older side and not working to the best of its ability it has me looking at buying a new hotas. Thought maybe the Warthog was down in price....NOPE! haha So, do I buy a warthog when I usually only fly the F-15 and Sabre, or stick with my 45 and get the rift? Decisions decisions. *edit* I know my computer specs might play a factor in the rift decision, but more RAM is coming and maybe a new card. -

Thanks Winston...I was afraid this old X-45 was getting too long in the service department. -
Zoom Function on X-45 Rotary Switch
LC34 replied to LC34's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
disabled it trying to figure it out and its still jittery with trackir, disabled zoom in trackir and seems like its my mouse wheel screwing with it. Looked in my control setup and there is not a single thing the mouse buttons or wheel do in game or at least mapped to my controls yet the wheel still zooms in and out when I use it. Totally confusing where this is mapped to because like I said there isn't anything mapped to it. -
Hello all, I set my zoom function up in the Axis Commands to allow my throttle Rotary Switch to control the zoom in game. It works, however anytime I move the throttle it makes the zoom get all jittery. I go into the settings to adjust the dead zone, saturation, curve etc but I cant seem to stop the jitters. Any ideas what I could do to fix this? I really like the zoom like this as it is more controllable when it works, kinda like having binoculars in the aircraft but sometimes it makes it hard to fly with it going all over the place. Anyone with any ideas to negate this? Thanks for any and all help.

Ok, phew a lot more technical than flying the Sabre or P-51 lol I know I am doing it all wrong. Don't even want to get started about how bad with the radar I am as the enemy is shooting me before I am getting a shot off even in BVR TWS mode. Tacview is helpful but a lot of info I don't know what I'm looking at. Anywhere I can post some Tacview results to get some feeback?

I know the velocity vector is where my aircraft is heading, and I know the aircraft datum is the AoA but I seem to never have them match up like I see in other videos, the datum seems to always be high. Is this because its improperly pitched? Same question when it comes to the two being off to the left or right. Also, Ive been watching all the tutorial videos I can on youtube, any others I can watch or download to the game? Thanks all for your help. I'm having a heck of a time fighting in this bird.

Being mostly a single player and loving campaigns I almost skipped this one. However, there is a Mig alley need in my mind and this one obviously filled that role so I bought it. Now I don't fly anything else. I am absolutely obsessed with flying this gem perfectly that I never even start a campaign or fly combat. I just made a mission with my Sabre and add a few things here and there as I want and just fly. Trying to do everything perfect. I 100% say yes to buying this. Great plane, great release for not technically being "done." I cannot wait for the final product as I am having a blast with it now.
