Is there currently anything on the market that will allow for mixed reality through a HMD ? As a cockpit builder I’d like the ability to stay in VR but manipulate real world switches.

Thanks to Rob and a few others I have finally got my UFC sync'd with DCS. My next obstacle seems to be a rather simple one although I cant figure it out. It's the binding of my MFD OSBs. I followed the instructions in the SIMAPP Manual where the steps are to Select F18 / INSTANT ACTION / ESCAPE / ADJUST CONTROLS / select the MFD and bind the buttons manually. I have done exactly that and confirmed that the button presses are correct, but for some reason, in the simulation the button press does not yield the expected MFD page or function. In some cases no function at all. I also tried the file download from the device page for each of the MFD's and that didnt yield anything as well. I subsequently cleared out the file before trying the manual binding process explained above. Wondering what can be causing the errant button presses ?

Hi, All the screens are functional now. I adjusted the resolution on my main monitor to the highest resolution and that caused the screens to display respective data to the right screens. I find SIMAPP to be somewhat anemic in defining the DEVICE section. Can you tell me what this page does exactly ? My Left DDI's Pushbuttons are controlling my right DDI functions and I think the screens although appearing correctly in the MFD Display screen are not correctly assigned in the DEVICE section. My UFC / HUD Control switches are activating the correct switches in the simulation but I still do cannot get the proper digits to appear in the WINWING UFC. This is in the cockpit flying in DCS. Thank you.

The LCD screen being used as the AMPCD appears to function properly as an additional monitor in the Display Manager and will allow for files to be dragged onto the screen as any other normal screen. Issue still persists that it will not display any sim data and only shows desktop ( while the DDI's are operating normally after I selected the Winwing option under the Monitors setting ). I'll check again on the UFC connection but still showing as seen below. Wondering if it might be the settings in SIMAPP causing both issues ?

Got both DDI’s showing data from DCS but the AMPCD not and UFC is still showing a starburst pattern

Thank you for your willingness to help. So I got all MFD Display page items to go green. Now to figure why DCS data is not being transmitted to my MIP setup ... incremental progress ! I was pretty excited to get this setup from WinWing but my fun factor meter is now running on empty trying to figure how to overcome the next obstacle. I'm reading about the wwrt lua file that's supposed to write between MIP and DCS - my next rabbit hole to dive into !

Thanks. I did clean up the path info and cleared the Options.Lua red warning, but still have the Check DCS World red warning ... see and confirm below please ?
-
Trying to setup my TOP GUN MIP and on the MFD Display screen, I get a red error message of " Check info about DCS World " in red font with a further comment about not being able to find the Options.Lua. I setup my default user path and pointed it to the C:\Users\XXX\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config folder as well as the "view" folder where the Options.Lua resides, but apparently that's not correct. Any suggestions ?

Rob, Thanks for sharing that. Can you post a pic to give me a better thought process ? I'm attaching a pic of a powered desk that I can raise and lower as necessary that I thought might work but the issue is the legs of the desk run into my motion platform electric motors.

Wondering what folks are using for mounting the Top Gun MIP center panel clamps to - I can't use a desk as I have my setup on a DOF REALITY motion platform and I solely use VR.

Good Job DirtiByrd - Your solution worked although initially I got the same error message, but I just hit "SAVE" and it kept it.

Got an email from Ultraleap regarding their progress with "mid air haptic feedback". I asked the question as to whether that would allow the user to sense or feel a button push or a rotary knob twist with this news and this is the response that I received. I thought the technology was further along with haptic feedback by wearing VR gloves such as those shown below ... "Our mid-air haptcis technology works by stimulating the mechanoreceptors of the hand using ultrasound. effectively this works by creating a focal point in mid-air and moving this incredibly fast to form shapes and patterns, see here for more detail on this. These mid-air haptics work best in an experience to provide the physical feedback and confirmation that VR experiences often lack and to inform the user that they have touched or interacted with an object for example. Currently it's difficult effectively convey a texture via sensation alone by using focused ultrasound. From our user testing we have found that a a big part of what a user feels is linked to what they expect to feel and the mid-air haptics acts as a physical confirmation of that object or interaction. There are elements of a mid-air haptic sensation that can be modified such as the intensity and duration and I would recommend experimenting with the sensation editor and demo suite to how this affects the user experience. From our research and user testing we find that how the user experiences the sensation and textures is closely linked to the visual stimuli that is presented, for example if a user sees lightning on screen they are more likely to describe the sensation in those terms or crackling or electrical compared to if a user is taking part in a demo where they are popping bubbles with their finger This knowledgebase article also includes some great tips about how to design effective haptics based on how these are physically perceived by the user. I hope this information helps, I look forward to hearing from you with some ideas of what you would like to design and create and will be happy to advise further as needed. Thanks NineLine - That did the trick !

I'm trying to use the Maverick 65F but after Sensor Select to the Maverick Seeker DDI and Uncage, when I depress the TDC Depress and try and move the seeker head to lock onto a target, I cant seem to move it. Help !

Can someone tell me what the screw dimension distance is for the Orion 2 joystick base - not the base plate. I’m creating a side armrest plate and want to make sure the width ( 4/12” ) is enough. thanks

How can I use the PLOT to watch my approach to the carrier ?

What's the best way to review your carrier landings ?

First time jumping into the 64 cockpit in VR with my Reverb G2, everything in VR went into super magnification mode. Any idea how to correct for this ?

Leap motion is nice but limited to pushing buttons. How about DCS provide the ability to pinch control / rotate rotary knobs ?
