No, I don’t have anything like that. Plus, I want to keep my clutter down as much as possible. I have my HOTAS setup, plus a spare USB number pad. But I try to memorise as much stuff as I can so I can re-enact scenes from the Life of Stevie Wonder without coming out of VR.

Thanks both . I’m using a Warthog, so plenty of mappable options. I thought that maybe there might have been a way to reset the view to 90 degrees either way or something. I’ll get mapping .

So, an awful lot of the startup procedure in the F16 requires me to swivel round like an owl on a turntable. It’s almost impossible with my current setup. Are there any tips, or tricks to make it a viable exercise? I have a G2, and am not using the VR controllers, just the mouse.

I have a horrible feeling that foveated rendering will very quickly be put to no good. As things stand, myself and probably the majority of us, when adverts are forced upon us such as the way YouTube bombards us with them, we fiddle with our phones, or go grab a quick drink or whatever until the ad has finished. Once advertisers have the power to know whether we are paying attention or not, they will very quickly start pausing the ads whenever we look away. Mark my words, eye tracking will come at a cost.

Okay, so to completely ruin my conspiracy theory (assuming they are telling the truth ;) ), I’ve just received an update to my order from Bestware: We would like to inform you about the status of your HP Reverb G2 pre-order. HP has informed us that the Reverb G2 is currently being equipped with new, improved lenses in the production process. This upgrade will further increase the quality of the product, but according to HP it is accompanied by a slight delay in the initial delivery to all dealers. Based on the new availability date communicated to us by HP, we expect your order to be shipped by the end of October. Due to the increased number of inquiries and in order to be able to help you as quickly as possible, we ask you to reply to this e-mail and refrain from other contact channels.

Well, probably best for the sanity of others if we both sit back and see how things unfold :)

I realise that, but PC is niche, Xbox is mainstream. This is something that will potentially go much further than any current, or bygone flight sim. They have invested an awful lot of time and money this time around. And don’t forget, Microsoft have openly stated that VR support will be ready for the launch of the G2. They aim to choreograph both events.

As I said, it’s just my theory.

Yes but MS are trying to change all of that with MSFS. Word is that they already have a larger user base than every other current flight sim combined. Which, after a matter of just a few days is startling. And the fact it’s going Xbox is testimony to the ambitions they have.

Because Microsoft like to make a song and dance about everything. And if their new baby was ready to use with the G2 from day one, then it would limit people finding other, non-MS sims from the off. Exclusivity is a big thing to MS. Why do you think that MS have said that the ONLY headset to receive initial support will be the G2? It’s because that is the headset with Microsoft on the side of the box. They want to drive sales of the headset as well as the flight sim.

Call me Mr Cynical, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft are behind the delays. They have aligned themselves with HP, and have said that the ONLY headset that will initially receive support for MSFS2020 is the G2. It’s my guess that they are struggling to get the sim ready and have leant on HP to slow things up a bit. Just a theory, but money talks, and MS have plenty of it.

Thanks for the video link. I’ll have a peep when I have a bit more time. Now, this might sound a bit mad, but I would never buy a motherboard or CPU that didn’t have overclocking capabilities. I always live in hope that maybe one day :D

I know. I realise that my pc has more to offer than I am able to get out of it. But I do get a certain degree of comfort running things at stock, knowing that nothing is, in theory, getting over-stressed. I may make a concerted effort, sometime in the future, to try and get a handle on overclocking. But, at the ripe old age of 57, whether it will sink in is another matter entirely ;)

I’m not very au fait with the dark art of overclocking. Plus, I’m pretty sure I would need to reconsider my cooling options at 4.6ghz. Probably starting with a new case. Nah, I’ll just upgrade the whole kaboodle, and give my current system to my son. Thanks for the advice though :)

Am I the only person who thinks that it’s about time we had a true, technological breakthrough regarding power consumption in computers? 1000watts is insane. That’s one bar on an electric fire or 100 energy saving light bulbs running simultaneously. I wonder what the true cost of a 3-4 hour gaming session is? Have you ever switched on a kettle and watched the meter spin up? I used to get a bollocking off my dad for putting the electric fire on back in the day.

I think my cpu will be a bottleneck. I’ve an i7 6700k, running at 4ghz with 32gb DDR 2400mhz. I believe I do have an 850watt psu, but it is a pretty cheap one. A full system upgrade is long overdue. I’ve been ready to pounce for ages, but the manufacturers seem to be dragging their heels forever. AMD, with the Big Navi, and new Ryzen, and nVidia with their 30xx series. I, and many others, have been reluctant to bite now with all of this stuff ready to drop at any moment.

Oh, that’s a relief then. Mind you, I still need a new pc, as it would be sacrilege putting a 30xx in my system.

I’m not that tech savvy when it comes to pc hardware, so take this with a pinch of salt. But I’ve heard that the 30xx series will require 3 slots, and extra psu requirements, both in terms of power draw and necessary plugs. So I’m not sure whether I’m going to need a new case to physically harbour the new card, plus a new motherboard with an abundance of slots, and a beefier psu. Add that lot to $1400+ and things start to add up a bit.

One thing is for certain...... I don’t think I’ll ever forget to turn the air brakes off again ;)
