  1. Thanks for the replies, guys! I really appreciate it. Now here's some questions regarding missile evasion in FC2. I've read a post written by GG back in 2008 regarding SARH missile evading tactics: Since the A2A combat in FC2 has changed radically. I wonder whether the tactics he mentioned such as vertical reversals are still applicable. And are there any tactics that I should know when fighting a SARH missile?
  2. Thanks for the explanation. Here's a few more regarding Russian missiles. 1. Do I have to maintain the target lock until the active seeker on R-77 goes active? 2. Is there a way to know if the active seeker has gone active on R-77? 3. If the radar loses the target lock for a short time and regain the lock, will there be a chance for the ballistically flying R-27ER to regain the guidance? 4. If I fire a R-27ER towards a jammer, will keeping the radar lock increase the possibility of hit? 5. If the jammer stops jamming, will the ER just go ballistic or automatically search for other available jammers?
  3. Thanks for the explanation, dude.
  4. 1. Why can a R-27ET be launched with a radar lock? Isn't it supposed to be a heat-seeking missile? 2. If the bandit flies into a cloud right after the lock, will I still get a LA? (assuming the bandit is within the range of ET) 3. Will the bandit get a missile-launch warning on his RWR after I launch the ET? 4. Do I have to maintain the radar lock after launching the ET? 5. I've also read on the forum that EOS can be used to launch RH missiles. Why? If this is true, will the bandit get a missile-launch warning? 6. What's the size of radar beam for Russian fighters? Is it ±5 degrees in elevation and ±30 degrees in azimuth? 7. How long do I have to wait after I slew radar beam to a certain direction in order to get that area of sky fully scanned?
  5. I'm wondering how the current SFM is compared to the FM of IL2 and which one is more realistic.
  6. Oops, it seems that I my thread is in the wrong place. Please move it to the Input/Output forum, MOD. Thanks!
  7. Hi guys, I have decided to take my chance and bring the hog back home. Could you please advise me the best place to buy WH online that ships internationally? The lowest one on eBay costs $480 + $90. I believe there are better choices out there. lol. I think I will never need to buy another joystick in my life after getting WH. I've had enough with Saitek's POTs.
  8. I am currently using MSFF2 and X45 throttle as a mixed HOTAS configuration. I'm wondering what is the easiest way to have as many buttons as possible on the HOTAS for FC2.0. Although I have SST programming software installed, the X45 profiles on the web are not suitable for me. I have just read about switchers in the manual and thought it may be a good solution to use 2 positions of the 3-position AUX switch to act as switchers. But after I started mapping keys, I found some problems. I originally wanted to map the "default" buttons on X45 throttle to normal flight controls and the "switched" buttons to combat controls. But I realized that if I used switchers, I could have the buttons on MSFF2 switched. But I only want the buttons on X45 throttle to be switched. And will switchers also switch axis? Anyone is using a controller set like me, how do you solve this problem? About the cockpit view, can I have several zoom levels set to different buttons just like in IL2? Or I have to use rotary to zoom in and out smoothly?
  9. I have recently bought FC2 and installed several mods/models/skins using Modman. But after that the game's FPS dropped to 20-30 level in Su-27 quick mission on my i7 3.6G + 3G DDR3 + GTX295, although I was using maximum graphics settings plus 8x AA and 8x AF (High Quality, Vsync on, RES 1280x1024, haven't done any config tweak yet). I then checked the installed mods/models/skins and found majority of the textures installed are not in CDDS format. So I'm wondering whether I can change them all into CDDS format to improve FPS? For example: Mod Oxyd's and afterburner cone standard model for LO:FC2.0 contains following files: FORSAG.tga.dds will be installed to Bazar\TempTextures\ forsag.LOM will be installed to Bazar\World\Shapes\ ns_forsage.tga will be installed to Bazar\TempTextures\ As you can see, one texture file is not in .dds format. Can I follow cosmonaut's CDDS guide to convert it to .dds to improve performance? I did as the guide told and inserted the converted .CDDS file back to the mod pack in Modman's mod pack editor. But after I installed the new mod, the state for the new CDDS file was shown N/A. Also, I've seen in the mod pack editor that there is a catalog file for FORSAG.tga.dds: Bazar\World\WorldTexturesTGA.cdds What does this catalog file do? Is it the cause of N/A state? Or is CDDS only for aircraft skins?
  10. I need a tutorial desperately. How come this maneuver is not explained in the manual?
  11. Just like AH-1Z in Battlefield 2 which can circle around the ground target with the nose pointing at it. It is a great maneuver to straft ground targets while nearly impossible to get hit. I've tried doing this maneuver in game but finally failed. Is Ka-50 to heavy to execute this maneuver?
  12. I built myself a mission which starts from the tarmac with a cold black shark. The Alt Hold function finally acted like what the manual describes. I had been familiarizing myself with the controls in the Ka-50.miz mission, which starts in the air. I think the bug might have something to do with it.
  13. It is said in the manual that in order to hold the altitude in the auto hover mode (Alt Hold button engaged), the collective brake should be engaged while moving and released after it is moved to the wanted position. Then the helicopter will stay at that high stably. And the auto hover Wag did in his producer's note did look very stable. But in my practice, the collective brake works just in the opposite way. I have to hold the F key (keep the brake engaged) in order to maintain the altitude. Once I release the key (brake), the helicopter starts to either descend or ascend. What have I done wrong?
  14. Mirrors do the trick. After I turn it off, the FPS increase to 36 when I am sitting in the cockpit on the runway. Then I turn the ABRIS res to 1024, now the FPS is 46. Will test more.
  15. Vista of course. I'm using 2 500GB hard disks in RAID 0. I would have needed to buy a floppy disk to install RAID driver if I planed to use XP.
  16. Just tried out the tweaks you suggested, Frazer. It has no improvement at all when I am in the airfields or cities. When the training mission starts, the FPS is still 30.
  17. Yes. I have to say the graphics is just not that fantastic, comparared to FSX and recent WOP. And BS is still missing self-casting shadow inside the cockpit.
  18. Tranks very much for your tips, Frazer. But what's the problem with Force Feedback? I'm using MSFF2 as the cyclic stick. Will it still have return-to-center tension after I turn it off?
  19. lol. Maybe I am a bit spoiled by the forever 75fps with ultra-high graphics settings in other sims like IL2 and FSX. To me any fps under 50 is not bearable. And don't forget the stutter effect when fps is changing rapidly. Even you get a high fps number, It may still feel uncomfortable when the fps is changing rapidly. I think this game really deserves an optimization.
  20. my rig: I7 920 @4.0GHz 3GB DDR3 in Triple Channel GTX 295 with latest driver in-game GFX settings: All maxed out except water Full screen on Res: 1280x1024 @ 75Hz nHancer settings: AA: 8xS AF: 8x IQ: High Quality V-Sync: On All kinds of optimization: Off Now open up the training mision 'Hover Control' and let the game load. When I'm in the cockpit, open fps counter. It reads 32. Unpaused the game, fps drops to 30. Look around with TrackIR. The fps jumps to 50+ when looking through the right side-window. Look down at the cockpit floor. Fps is fixed at 75, which is extremely smooth. Now take the control. Take off and fly out of the airfield into the nearest city. The fps is still below 40 when city is still in the screen. Then fly away from the city into the bleak plain. Fps is now fixed at 75. My question: How come the airfield and city can make such a huge hit in the performance? I've tried turning off AA & AF. Turn down the in-game screen res to 512. The fps is still the same when I am near cities and airfieds.
  21. Since Sidewinder software is no longer supported in Vista and Windows 7, swff2 users using above OS can no longer adjust the feedback force. It would be sweet if ED incorporates more force feedback options in the new FC. ;)
  22. Thank you very much, Panzertard!
  23. When you are using custom skin (esp. dark ones) on Su-27 or Su-33, if your viewpoint reach several hundreds of meters away from the aircraft, its skin will reverts back to the defaut one. It is really an immersion killer when flying online to see your wingman's skin change back and forth. Please do fix this issue in 2.0.
  24. My OS: Vista SP2 x86 Video Card driver: 190.38
