  1. I don't think there is a non starforce version. They will all require activation. I read on the forums here that the English version thought will have more activations available. I am down to 1 activation on the russian version I purchased because I reinstalled it on the same machine twice and I didn't know about saving the registry key. I purchased the English version and I am downloading it now. The manuals are available with the download and they have the english manuals in PDF format here in the forums.
  2. Hi Polecat, the fan issues are still there on the ATI cards. I read the reviews on newegg.com and there is apparently some kind of third party utility that you need to use to jump up the fan speed. The ATI drivers currently have the default setting of 20% on the fan speed. This utility kicks it up to 50%. Other than the fan speed problem, are any of the ATI folks out there running on the 4850 or 4870 having any issues?
  3. YES! The english version is available for download! BTW, Protix is the same cc service I used to pay for the Russian download, so it should be fine. Have fun kids!
  4. You probably still see a "C" on your HUD right? Make sure that after you reset everything that you disarm the cannon by selecting "C" on the keyboard. You will then get your airspeed indicator back. You will notice that the cannon trigger guard on the stick goes back down.
  5. Hi all, I am building a corei7 box and I am hung up on the video card choices. I will be running the game at 1680X1050(max res on my widescreen monitor) and I am wondering if this game runs better on ATI hardware or Nvidia hardware. I will be purchasing either a single 4850 or a 9800GTX. I probably won't be running SLI because the benchmarks I have seen show that SLI actually causes a performance hit unless you get into the higher resolutions that my monitor doesn't support. From what I understand, Black Shark is more of a CPU hog anyways so I'll be overclocking the CPU a little bit. Core I7 920 Asus P6T mobo 3 gigs of Ram (3X1)(ill upgrade this later this ram prices drop) Western Digital Black 500 gig 32mb cache Rosewill 850w power supply Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit video card????? Opinions? I keep hearing on other sites about ATI having driver issues but that is on the 4870 cards, not on the 4850 cards.
  6. Trust me, you won't be the worst player out there. On the server I join all the time, there are more people on who are trying to learn than those that know what they are doing. Remember, this is a new sim that has a lot of detail. Nobody is truly an expert yet!
  7. Great! If you need beta testers in the future for the dedicated server, please feel free to pm me.
  8. This is a little dissapointing. It is not really cost effective to colo a gaming PC in a data center. I was hoping that the standard gaming server footprint that most companies offer would be adequate. The only other option I have available is to host a "server" on my home connection. Most home connections in the US(unless you have FIOS or the new Comcast speedplus Tier) are really not robust enough to provide a reliable connection for more than 3 or 4 players. Will there be a dedicated server option in the future? I really think this would help to take Black Shark to a whole new level and I would be one of the first to volunteer to test it for you. Most gaming companies offer th is type of hardware and connectivity: Intel E8300 1333MHz FSB (2 cores)»2GB DDR2 Ram»160GB SATA HDD»Windows 2003 OS or RHES4»»100mbps Connection My goal would be to host a site and dedicated server on hardware that is listed above. Of course, one of the main requirements is to have the ability to launch a dedicated server via the CLI(cmd on windows bash on linux). I hope that this is on the roadmap for the future.
  9. Hello, I checked the GUI manual but I didn't see anything in there regarding running a dedicated server. 1. Can you run a dedicated server without using an activation 2. Are there any specifications on bandwidth utilization as well as hardware specs on the server itself 3. Can the dedicated server be launched via the cmd(CLI) line instead of going into the GUI. 4. This isn't a first person shooter, so what are the latency requirements on the client side? In other words, is 200ms and under playable by all on the server or do you need to be under 150, or 100 etc etc. I apologize ahead of time if this had been answered already. My forum search didn't really come up with any good results that answered all the questions.
  10. DCS, I wanted to say THANKS for such a GREAT sim. Black Shark is going to take a LONG time to master. Night flying takes the sim to a whole new level! What a challenge! You guys did a really nice job here. I just wanted to say thanks. The night vision implimentation is VERY VERY cool Meanwhile, back to the 159nth server to work on the skills.
  11. Thanks Piper! I will read up on engaging route mode.
  12. The interesting part is with the flight director and how you get the aircraft to follow way points automatically. Even after watching the nav movie, I havn't been able to figure this out yet. Using the mission editor, I setup four way points and have had no luck. I guess I better RTFM some more.
  13. Pretty cool video. As for Russian aircraft vs US aircraft, why even have the discussion? The Russians are designing aircraft for India these days. They can't even afford to keep the military funded. Half the Russian navy is rusting away and they just cancelled two more submarine projects. The Cold war is over, and I for one, having grown up during the cold war am greatfull.
  14. I have a dual core box with a 7900, 2 gigs of ram, SATA, and I still get the stutter. It is really irritating because it takes away from the game. You would think that I would be able to run at high res/full detail with that setup. This is a code problem.
