The RTS command itself isn't a bad idea - in MP, one player controlling the movement of ground forces could make scenarios a lot more interesting and dangerous for the Ka-50 pilots (scattering convoys when attacked, maneuvering units between buildings, being unpredictable in general - AI can't do that). Talking about DCS Black Shark, that is. But even in the long term, giving a player control of one side's ground forces could make up for a lot of AI shortcomings (in AG operations).

My pessimism is based on past events. Armed Assault wasn't published here. Falcon 4.0 Allied Force wasn't published here. Local distributors steer clear of niche games. You may try these though: An-tec ( info@an-tec.hu ) MM Holding ( marketing@mmholding.hu ) SevenM ( info@cdv-sevenm.hu ) CD Project ( info@cdprojekt.hu ) (AFAIK cdgalaxis is just a shop, they are not distributors)

I'll eat my hat if the DVD version gets published here.

Found this on another forum: :) Blue water Navy truism; There are more planes in the ocean than there are submarines in the sky. If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter -- and therefore, unsafe. Navy carrier pilots to Air Force pilots: Flaring is like squatting to pee. When one engine fails on a twin-engine airplane you always have enough power left to get you to the scene of the crash. Without ammunition the USAF would be just another expensive flying club. What is the similarity between air traffic controllers and pilots? If a pilot screws up, the pilot dies; If ATC screws up, the pilot dies. Never trade luck for skill. The three most common expressions (or famous last words) in aviation are: "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh S#!+!" Weather forecasts are horoscopes with numbers. Progress in airline flying; now a flight attendant can get a pilot pregnant. Airspeed, altitude or brains. Two are always needed to successfully complete the flight. A smooth landing is mostly luck; two in a row is all luck; three in a row is prevarication. I remember when sex was safe and flying was dangerous. Mankind has a perfect record in aviation; we never left one up there! Flashlights are tubular metal containers kept in a flight bag for the purpose of storing dead batteries. Flying the airplane is more important than radioing your plight to a person on the ground incapable of understanding it or doing anything about it. When a flight is proceeding incredibly well, something was forgotten. Just remember, if you crash because of weather, your funeral will be held on a sunny day. Advice given to RAF pilots during W.W.II. When a prang (crash) seems inevitable, endeavor to strike the softest, cheapest object in the vicinity as slowly and gently as possible. The Piper Cub is the safest airplane in the world; it can just barely kill you. (Attributed to Max Stanley, Northrop test pilot) A pilot who doesn't have any fear probably isn't flying his plane to its maximum. (Jon McBride, astronaut) If you're faced with a forced landing, fly the thing as far into the crash as possible. (Bob Hoover - renowned aerobatic and test pilot) If an airplane is still in one piece, don't cheat on it; ride the bastard down. (Ernest K. Gann, author & aviator) Though I Fly Through the Valley of Death I Shall Fear No Evil For I am at 80,000 Feet and Climbing. (sign over the entrance to the SR-71 operating location Kadena, Japan). You've never been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3. (Paul F. Crickmore - test pilot) Never fly in the same cockpit with someone braver than you. There is no reason to fly through a thunderstorm in peacetime. (Sign over squadron ops desk at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ, 1970). The three best things in life are a good landing, a good orgasm, and a good bowel movement. The night carrier landing is one of the few opportunities in life where you get to experience all three at the same time. (Author unknown, but someone who's been there) "Now I know what a dog feels like watching TV." (A DC-9 captain trainee attempting to check out on the 'glass cockpit' of an A-320). If something hasn't broken on your helicopter, it's about to. An old Norwegian fighter pilot was invited to speak at an English woman's club luncheon about his flying experiences during WWII. "Und dere I vas at 4,000 ft... two Fokkers in front of me, a Fokker in back of me, four Fokkers above me!" At this point, some of the ladies became nervous about his language. The chairperson of the club then said, "Please don't be alarmed, Ladies. A Fokker is a type of German airplane... isn't that right, Mr.Olsen?" "Yah, yah, dat is right, but these Fokkers vas flyin' Messerschmitts!" For more, take a look at: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/765476/posts

I need BS but have to know about the hardware
Malleus replied to Goteb's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Doesn't all Low settings mean almost no objects on the ground? In LOFC, setting the Scenes to Low greatly improved performance, but pretty much disabled all objects (buildings, trees, etc). How's that in BS? -

Maybe you should add that to the thread title. :) -

If it works anything like LOFC, then it's a weekly disk check, and does not require internet access. Hopefully, it's the same this time. -

Thanks for the added info, weekly disk check should be OK. -

Splinter Cell 3 had Starforce, and was in my DVD drive for two-three months (with intensive gaming). After that, small cracks started to appear at the center of the disk. Luckily, tha game was properly cracked by then so I could put the disk to rest, but the game would have ended up unplayable if the disk blew up in the drive. I was happy to learn that LOFC uses weekly disk check. It's a good method, IMO. AFAIK, the limited activations thing is only in the downloadable version of the game. The disk version is only cd check. At least it should be like that. -

Two questions: Will the Starforce copy protection check the disk every time I play, or only every week (LOFC style)? Also, can I read this announcement somewhere in Russian? :) -
Recommended CPU specs doesn't sound as much far fetched as the minimal. I mean, P4 2,0 GHz? I struggle to make FC run at decent fps with my P4 3,0 GHz!

Ubisoft was merely the publisher of LO, the developer was ED from the start. LO is/was that unoptimized and unfinished because of what I said in my earlier post - Ubisoft didn't give ED the time and resources they need. Now the point is that BS looks a lot better than LO, but does it demand a that more powerful PC too? I selfishly hope that the engine has been optimized and tweaked, because atm there's slim chance for me to properly play this otherwise...
-
I thought Lock On was released in that state because ED didn't have time and resources to properly optimize and finish it. And I though part of the work on DCS:BS went into optimizing and tweaking the engine.
-
Maybe ED should officially announce a totally far fetched release date, like summer 2009. Maybe that would stop people asking about it. And if they happen to finish the game before that, than they would announce that the release have been brought forward, and everyone would be, like, 'Wow, awesome!'.:)
-
That would be a shame since trees look damn awesome in BS.
-
No kidding. :)

You know the saying ... it's not a bug, it's a feature!:smilewink:
-
What's all this talk about the Ka-50 not being night capable? It CAN fly at night. :) Also, I guess it can use unguided weapons (cannon, rockets) in the dark...
-
Hey wait a second, what 'cold war scale battle'? I thought DSC: Black Shark's campaign scenario will be more of a plausible Georgian - Russian almost assymetric conflict in Abkhazia, then a full on NATO vs Russia shootout.
-
+1.13d ... but only for the Zawhili Cd version 1.0A, of course.
-
I think it wouldn't make the game any better, while wasting dev resources that could be used for improving more important aspects of the sim.

DCS: Black Shark - Q&A **READ FIRST!**
Malleus replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hmm, IRL it's not all weather thanks to the Skhval, but what about the game? Will weather affect the TV targeting process in Black Shark? -
DCS: Black Shark - Q&A **READ FIRST!**
Malleus replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Is the representation of the snow better in DCS than in LO? I mean, in Lock On there was something like an animated 2d layer put on the screen, but it looked very artificial sometimes, it didn't even fill the whole FOV in zoomed out cockpit view. Any improvement to that? -
Lock On looks right and feels right. It's fun even just to fly around and explore the scenery. I also like that it's not uber realistic, it didn't take ages to learn. I like the choice of flyable planes, especially the Su-25T (and the AFM too). A great sim all in all.
