  1. What's that big long "box" that can often be seen on the outer pylon(s) of the Ka-52?
  2. Nice vid! The satellite navigation system uses GLONASS and GPS too? Cause I'm not sure the Glonass system ever had as many satellites in orbit as the number shown on the ABRIS satellite screen. :)
  3. Actually, we need a movie that consists entirely of Ka-50s smashed to pieces in every possible way that can be imagined, and even in some that cannot. :D
  4. Well, the marketing department is doing great...
  5. I have no reason to doubt that the planes saw combat in Chechnya, but that was in 2000. Since then, they were most likely just airshow material. Also, the Iranian arms deal happened in 2006, so the Su-25 book obviously has no info in it, since it was published in 2004. http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2006/07/25/208010/farnborough-first-export-for-su-25t.html http://www.janes.com/defence/air_forces/news/jdw/jdw060913_1_n.shtml http://www.menewsline.com/stories/2006/february/02_08_1.html (sometimes they mess up the designation, but I think it's obvious that they're talking about the T model)
  6. Hmm, indeed, after searching a bit, I found reports that Su-25Ts were being sold to Iran. I guess that could mean that Russia is getting rid of these planes. Though some sources say RuAF planned to order at least 50 of the aircraft, but this was around the millennium. Also, some say that back in 1997 Georgia (whom supposedly still have some unfinished Su-25Ts at what once was Sukhoi's manufacturing plant in Tbilisi) also wanted to acquire some of these birds - looks like they settled with the Scorpion after all.
  7. Huh? Some sources say (that book, among others) that the Su-25T saw action in Chechnya, and also that Ethiopia received two of them in early 2000 (yes, Su-25Ts), and used them in combat during the final phase of the war with Eritrea. So how much of this is true, then?
  8. Just to be precise, the KM aka Scorpion is not Russian - those are Georgian planes upgraded with the help of an Israeli firm. And I guess there's no way in hell they'd share detailed info about them with a Russian game/sim developer...
  9. I think the Russian Air Force is getting the SM upgrade. By the way, does the RuAF operate Su-25TMs, or only Su-25Ts?
  10. Whoa great footage!
  11. Persian Gulf. Lots of opportunities in that one.
  12. That little time with Jane's F-15 had its effect on me, so...:) F-15E
  13. Hot Shots deer hunting season scene, anyone? :D
  14. Yes, but designing the Ka-52 and saying they are meant to work together with the 50s kinda looks like Kamov's way of trying to justify the existence of, and saving the Ka-50 project isn't it?
  15. @99th flyby AFAIK the Ka-50 is the only operational single seat helicopter. Also, the Ka-52 was created later, bacause they realized that the single seat thing is not as good as they thought, and also because of the need for a "pack leader" platform.
  16. If they got paid for making a Ka-50 sim, then I say it was a good deal, that both them and us simmers will profit from!
  17. You just made a terrible mistake, cause you know, some day after release, someone will quote this very post and complain and whine about all these missing things. :D
  18. I can agree with that, that was the subtle point of my previous post. I can also agree with your points about the exotic stuff, and that's part of the reason why I'm looking forward to black shark (and the su-25t, cause I'm yet to get FC), and not really interested in the apache. But ED have to consider the interest of the people, and quite a lot of them are from the US or want to fly US planes. Sales matters - I guess that was one of the reasons US planes made it into LO in the first place...
  19. You know the saying - gunships don't fly, instead they are so ugly that they are repulsed by the Earth itself. I guess that's why the Ka-50 can climb very good...:)
  20. Neat! Makes me want to fire up Jane's F-15 :P
  21. (...and I guess about imaging IR too) So, how does it work exactly? All they get is a picture, how does it lock on to targets/distuinguish targets from environment? By difference in contrast/brightness? Also, how does it track a moving target target? How does rain, snow, or heavy rain/snow affect its performance? How useful is it in low light level situations? As for the Ka-50, is it only the basic Shkval, or can the heli be fitted with LLLTV or IR pods?
