  1. Same here. Credit card gives you the protection mentioned, plus some other benefits (for some cards anyway; like included travel insurance, rewards schemes and what not) But to return to the question: taking up a loan for a PC is a big no-no for me personally. In 24 months your rig isn't worth half of what it is now, and even less in comparison to the interest they charge you on top of it. The interest rates on shorter term loans are even worse usually. Follow the advice somebody else gave earlier: pay cash (or by credit card). If you can't afford it, borrow money from a friend or family member (usually interest free). That also gives extra incentive for paying back quickly! :)
  2. Damn, I deleted the open beta from my PC only yesterday. Wasn't aware that moving forward things come to openbeta first and then get released on official branch days later. Anyway, good stuff! Looking forward to installing the update come Monday :) (and may finally feel brave enough to join multiplayer too -- mostly as target practice for other players and AI, I suppose :D)
  3. That confused me as well. It seems that you have to be on the glide slope (guessing game with the Mustang!) to ever be able to obtain clearance for landing. If you are too far off, they will just ignore your request for landing. Not sure if this is expected or bugged, as I'm only a mediocre virtual pilot at best :) My feeling is that it can't be right, because if I have to get so close to the runway to actually obtain clearance, and the tower has reasons to refuse it, it may just mean that something bigger or faster is coming in from behind you! :helpsmilie:
  4. Nice rig! You'll be pleased with that beast of a graphics card and can enjoy the Huey with about 50+ fps in heavy fighting and smoke! (easily 80 fps otherwise) Congrats in advance  You mentioned CyberPower in your first post. I ordered my rig (see signature) only two months ago from CyberPower UK. I'm not sure if it's actually the same company as in the US, but if they are, I can absolutely recommend them. Fast delivery and very professionally assembled (I'm very picky about proper internal cabling :music_whistling:)
  5. Hi guys, I know it has come up a few times that the AN/ARA-8 (and a few other systems) are not implemented. However, as they are actually clickable with moving switches and buttons, I'm wondering if there are any plans to fill them with life? Couldn't find any posts saying "not going to happen" or "work in progress" or "is on our list"... What's the situation? Would be really cool to have that implemented! Please. :music_whistling:
  6. I did this: Downloaded latest driver: ftp://ftp.saitek.com/pub/software/full/Saitek_X52Pro_Flight_Controller_7_0_27_13_x64_Drivers.exe (This is valid for all 64bit Windows versions; I'm on Win 7 Pro 64bit) Installed it. And it'll ask you to plug it in, if I remember correctly. I then plugged it into a USB 2.0 port (black ports, not blue). Done. Had other problems with USB at that time, but that was completely unrelated. See your other thread on that subject ;)
  7. I find most missions way too hard too. Instead I focused on preparing simple stuff in the mission editor. That also gives me the opportunity to practise EXACTLY what I want to practise without being forced to deal with stuff that I'm not ready for. You might want to give that a go, too, Gerg. The mission editor looks confusing at first, but it won't take you more than 30 minutes to create a first simple mission. Afterwards it's just rinse and repeat with minor changes to increase difficulty for yourself. All the more advanced options like triggers, lua predicates and whatnot, you can entirely ignore initially.
  8. Doh! That was it. I used the "COMM Communications Menu" shortcut. Thanks saburo!
  9. Hi guys, I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong here, or if this is indeed a bug. Probably it's me, so I'd appreciate some help. I created a super simple mission, where I start airborne with the Mustang, close to airfield. Purpose of this exercise is to practise my landing. So far so good. The problem I'm having is the radio. I've set the Mustang's Radio Channel A to the frequency of the tower I'm headed to. When I press the button to fire up the comms menu to get landing clearance, nothing happens. The menu doesn't come up at all. However, as soon as I'm on the ground, comms work just fine. And once I'm airborne again, the menu won't come up any more. Any help would be appreciated. Mission and track attached (ignore my bouncy landing :music_whistling:) Thanks guys! N.B.: I'm using the latest 1.2.7 update, if that's relevant. mustang-landing.miz 140126-mustang-radio-not-working-in-air.trk
  10. Really cool video! I made the mistake to watch your other Youtube video as well... Now I want DCS WWII even more... :music_whistling: When did they say they'd release it again? :joystick:
  11. I've got the same stick and had all sorts of problems with USB which also affected other peripherals. A recent BIOS update resolved those issues. (Asus P9X79 Pro) Before you go for a BIOS update, check if there are any updates for your mainboard chipsets. Also, try avoiding any sorts of USB hubs while you're trying to narrow down the issue. Use a black port on the back of your PC. Blue is USB 3, white is probably a special USB port, which can be used to flash your mainboard BIOS (for ASUS anyway) USB 3 is only good for disks and other peripherals which transfer a lot of data. Some USB 2 devices don't like them, and definitely don't benefit from using them. Hope that helps.
  12. Uninstalling Lock On worked for me. And FC3 is still available and working.
  13. :megalol: My impression is that gamers are definitely NOT the target group for DCS, and I'm thankful for that! I wouldn't mind "fetch quests" though... aka Huey missions with sling load :music_whistling:
  14. Feels like the pitch axis has been shifted a bit? Not so much pulling on the cyclic needed any more during take-off and hovering. Feels less wobbly in ground effect. But it may just be me because I've spent a lot of time in the Huey the last days :joystick: Anyway... Keep up the great work ED & Co!!
  15. Thanks Steve! I'll see that I get around to installing the beta in the coming days, practice a little more, and then I'll certainly check out the server soon!
  16. Flightsim newbie says hi Hi folks, After silently lurking around in this forum for months, I thought it might be about time that I said hello! So there you go: Hello! I'm quite impressed by the overall friendly atmosphere here, and the many people who actively help others! As the title suggests, I'm relatively new to flight sims. I have good excuses for that though! (poor quality 10+ years ago when I checked last; lack of "gaming" rig; lack of time etc) Anyway, I came across DCS World a couple of months ago, and although I have barely scratched the surface of any of the modules (bought them all :music_whistling:) I love it! Now, lacking any previous flight sim experience or skills, the learning curve is steep. Steep as a wall, actually. :D But I love a good challenge, and who would have thought that it can be so rewarding to get that bird off the ground (with the full manual startup routine), or even land it without accident! :pilotfly: (Still working on the latter with my favourite whirly bird, the Huey) I recently replaced my "gaming" laptop (it had a nice GPU and spec for a laptop, but it was close to melting under DCS' requirements). Now I've got a fairly powerful rig. I use it for work mostly, but couldn't resist to get the new GTX780 Ti, which means DCS will become all the more enjoyable! The bad news for you guys: It probably also means that I may torpedo --I mean vikhr-- you with newbie questions. So anyway, see you guys out there (once I found a newbie friendly EU server)! I'll be the one with the parachute... easier to land safely!
  17. Not that I had a lot of time to fly in DCSW lately, but hey, this winter sale bastard was exactly what was needed to complete my suite! FC3 and Combined Arms are missing no more :D
