  1. Radar Gnoming Missile Target.
  2. Happy Birthday LOMAC, and congrats to ED for continuing work on this great sim!
  3. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the package and running the updater again. I found the same problem after trying to install a FPS tweak. Reinstalling the packager and updater should work.
  4. You have to Download the new package, which contains the newest version of the model as a whole. Which is what I believe is what is linked there. The updater that was released along with the original package, not the one that was IN the package, still works and updates the model.
  5. I'm going to be honest, I think that a F-14 sim, while fantastic, would be somewhat dated now. Yes I know "but WW2 sims have done great!" yes, they have. I simply think perhaps we need to look forward instead of back. Mind you, this is coming from someone who has an almost fanatical love for the F-14 in all it's forms. I simply have to wonder if perhaps we should concentrate on something that is new and in-service now. Mind you, I would love it to death, with a kickass A2A and A2G role. Personally I would LOVE to see a F/A-18 E-F sim, simply because it IS current, much like what ED has done with Blackshark, it is what is popular at the time. For the F model there would have to be an AI script for the backseater, but not a whole lot. I dare anyone to say they wouldnt love flying this badboy in a game:
  6. You are exactly correct. The red strut is a support member to take stress off of the hydrolic piston. If you go to Patricks Aviation, videos, and then look for "Ground opperations ar McGuire" you'll see it is removed almost immediately before the canopy is lowered.
  7. Thats just it, I dont know :pilotfly: I'm not exactly on the technical side of things, was just tossing an idea out.
  8. Oh yeah sure I did. Just wondering if anyone had thought about adding new sounds, instead of just over-writes of the original sounds.
  9. This thread was inspired by a post by Force_Feedback on the F-15 Release thread by Walmis. Has anyone tried to perhaps create a new set of "accurate" sounds for LO-1.12a? What I mean is that perhaps by adding new sounds and "scripts". An example..the ripping, roaring sound created by the F-15's engines at AB or at Mil power? When the F-15's engines start, you hear the Jet Fuel Starter spool up, and then the engine start and the JFS spool down, and then the same for the other side? Same for the Su-27, the MiG's, etc? Just an idea I'm tossing out.
  10. Actually, you can get pretty close to a running F-15 , especially at airshows. At a local Air show/ open house, a F-15B was started, engines facing the crowd, only about 60 or so feet away. You felt some pressure, but not a whole lot more. What you CAN sub for "being right behind" is being near last chance when a F-15 does a full AB take-off, you'll get a very accurate sound.
  11. Sorry if I came off snarky. What I mean is that it would be cheating to give the Eagle the Aim-120 Flying-beam-o-death with a 100% PK against everything between 10 and 45 miles, but it's also not exactly fair to limit the F-15 as well. What I want is a true representation of the F-15. What we have now is an aircraft that looks like a F-15, talks like an F-15, but doesnt walk like one. Trust me, I would be equally unhappy if MiG-29's and SU-27's were being dumbed down to straight-and-level-oops-we're dead" pilots and aircraft as well. Just when I take off in a F-15 in the game, I want that feeling of massive power, and that the missiles I shoot will fly their designed Mach 3, keep their energy like we know they do and have a realistic PK. I know ED tries, and I thank them for that, but perhaps what is needed is the actual data and experiences, which are provided in the case of the F-15, not so in the AMRAAM. I know fully combat loaded F-15's dont accelerate in vertical climbs, but having seen combat simulated loads and the F-15's abilities, it's not modeled right. BUT, this is a thread about missiles. From what I can see..the shape of the Aim-120 is right, so is it's destructive power, however, it's ability to maintain energy and speed, as well as its seeker ability is not accurate.
  12. This may not get me alot of fans, but you know..if you're going to model an aircraft, you should do it as realistically as possible. If the F-15 is that good in real life, it should be that good in the game. If the F-15 can carry an ARH missile and the non SM Flankers cannot, then that is too bad. If you want to balance the game, model the later version of the SU-27, instead of dumbing down the Eagle and it's weapons in order to "make it fair".
  13. Dontchya mean the F-15  I agree, however, what would be even more impressive would be holographic sound. What is needed is someone to be wearing a microphone over each ear, and go out and stand around F-15's at Start up, idle, taxi, take off, AB take-off, landing and shut down. I'm sure someone could do it, provided they have the right contacts. But the problem is, the F-15's engines are also more felt than heard, something that is difficult, if not impossible to replicate.
  14. the F-15's radar is still a mishmash of many radars and less capable than it's real life representation. Overall, the F-15's thrust is still porked.
  15. Also, the Cope India F-15's were limited in their tactics, formations, speeds and such and were badly outnumbered, something like 3 v. 10. The Eagles were also denied AWACS, ARH missiles (limited to simulating Aim-7's with a range of 15-20 miles, with the AMRAAMS ARH range being 30+). They also did not have Aim-9X's or JHMCS. Basically, they were playing a part, and got beaten. Now if full-up F-15C's from Alaska with the AN/APG-63V2, Aim-120C-5's, JHMCS+Aim-9X and AWACS, with unilimited tactics and even numbers, you would have likely seen a different result.
  16. BS=Black Shark.
  17. Turkey Feathers :music_whistling: And I'd be happy with animated or higher detailed static turbine blades. I'm already VERY happy with the model. Honestly, it's great, and I love it. All the big stuff on the model is done, and I'm extremely grateful. The rest is just little detail stuff. Thanks Walmis!
  18. Sorry, I guess I havent quite gotten used to the reimagined Batman Begins world.
  19. Because ED's parents were killed by the Joker?
  20. Hey Walmis, I think honestly, at least in my case, I can live with simply higher detailed static turbine face blades and blades in the burner cans than rotating ones. If you cant figure it out, it's not a huge issue. However, have you looked into the SU-25T scripts to maybe see how they did it? (I know, obvious question). But I also agree, the nose/canopy issue should be on a list of fixes for the next update, but again...thank you for all your hard work, for this, I'd be willing to pay!
  21. Actually, based on what was seen at Nellis last week...the F-22 can do a "real" cobra, and do it very well.
  22. Ok...one little problem with the Kobra/Cobra/Snake-named-manuver. Dogfights are all about energy, energy is LIFE. This article plays on the assumption that you can have enough time to : 1. See your approaching attacker (This is assuming you havent eaten a SARH or ARH missile before this at a head-on aspect shot). 2. Plan your movements, and target him (Why wouldnt you shoot him now? he's approaching you, a headon shot, at a fast closing rate) 3. in the instant split second where your two aircraft merge and pass, you instantly drop yourself to near zero airspeed and zero energy, flip back to take a shot at a target that is already past you and is likely accelerating away or into a turn. You, attempting to regain power and energy, are now on a defensive position, facing away from your attacker. Or lets presume you were already IN a defensive posture, you just brought yourself slow and killed your energy...for what? You just made yourself a very nice, large target for a gunzo, heater or fox 3 kill. The F-22, F-15 and F-16 can do the cobra, the F-22 can do a "true" cobra". You dont see the USAF touting the Cobra as it's hallmark manuver that will truly kill any opponent. I've even see a F-22 pilot call it "that airshow trick".
  23. On small thing Walmis. The "Tail stinger", the housing that contains the tailhook that extends between the engine nozzles? Is actually deleted/removed on all F-15's now. The tailhook is natural metal and exposed. Basically, it's sticking out of the rear of the actual body. Secondly, on most F-15's, the interior of the engine nozzles are streaked with black and white, much like automotive exhausts. The white color is more present in engines that burn very rich, and darker in leaner engines. You can see both the lack of a "stinger" and the staining of the engine nozzle in the attached pictures of Oregon ANG F-15D's. Also there's a very nice detailed shot of the inside of the nozzle. I hope this helps!
  24. Walmis, THANK YOU! I can honestly say that the new engine nozzles blow anything else out of the water. They are wonderful. I even reinstalled Flaming Cliffs JUST to play with the model. Considering the wonderful detail work you did on the engine nozzles, I cannot wait to see the work you are hopefully going to do on the intakes and turbine faces! A huge rep is inbound!
  25. A question... When I try to install the new package, it says that Lock On: Flaming Cliffs is a must. The previous package did not. Is there any way to modify the system so it doesnt require FC? Since I primarily use 1.02?
