Also, hopefully this will help. As current, the intake ducts are blank. On F-15's there is a transition of grey paint, which is flat, to gloss white paint right back to the turbine face. Do you plan on putting "animated" turbine faces on your F-15 model? or perhaps higher detailed "static" turbine faces. And on the other end of the engine, would it be possible to enhance the detail on teh burner cans? as seen here? There's no such thing as too many polygons Walmis! I'd love to see a super-detailed model!

The F-15 seat is indeed angled somewhat too far forward. The F-15's seat is angled at 15 degrees. You can see that in this diagram: And in this photo: Note the posture of the pilot in relation to the seat- The Seat is angled so that it's not totally vertical, but it's also nowhere near as angled back as the F-16's. Hope this helps!

Having seen F-15's do full AB takeoffs in person, I assure you, AB cones can be very long, and very intense. Too bad the graphics engine wont allow us to model the "spread" when the cone hits concrete on a high alpha climb, thats even cooler.
-
Why does it look like the AB cone is actually being angled further down than usual? For a second it almost looked like TVC!:joystick:

The Gordon book is fairly biased. It lists a DACT exercise that never happened @ Langley in 1992. Over at the Aircraft Resource Center message boards there is a poster called Murph, who flew F-15's for the 1st FW. He had friends who were there at the time, and dismiss the account. I trust Murph explicitly, if something did happen, he would simply say he couldnt talk about it. However, he did give details and says no DACT ever happened. What was said is that the Russians broke formation and got onto the tail of a F-15D. The F-15 pilot tried to do some minor manuvers to get the SU off his tail, but the SU stayed on him. This proves basically nothing, and is a pathetic example of "SU vs. F-15" fights in DACT. I think it's also on Hyperscale too. The Gordon book is very good for pictures and modeling perspectives, but it's "preformance data" is suspect.

ED agreed...The Mig 21 "CAN" be added ONLY IF...
ViperEagle replied to Witchking's topic in 3D Modeling for DCS World
That would be an extremely early MiG-21. The first shown here would be a more proper model. -
Ok...having flown the aircraft ingame now..There are a few things. Walmis, PLEASE feel free to tell me that I'm just bringing up things that have already been done. 1. Yes..the nosewheel turns the wrong way  2. I have to agree with the exhaust can details, would it be possible to add the actuator rods and such? ED, as said, did TRY and do this, but I have faith that you can do much better. 3. What do you have in mind for the intake trunks and the turbine faces? 4. You may want to check the nozzle animation, the real F-15 has a bit more movement to it. AGAIN, THANK YOU! it's fantastic, and for a beta, it's a SUPER FANTASTIC RIDE!

Actually I think the title of "Most Produced Aircraft" would belong to the Messerschmit BF-109 family, with an excess of 20,000+ Aircraft produced. BUT, a whole mess of MiG-21's were indeed built, I'd love to see it ingame. -
Actually, the AMRAAM did exist in the mid-late 80's, but granted, it was in developemental and testing phases. Historical accuracy doesnt really count anymore, seeing as, said before, the SU-25T and KA-50 and SU-34 etc are now included in the game(well, the KA-50 soon). I'd actually put the Game (honestly) right now closer to 1996-1999. In that case, the Flanker would still not have the R-77(which it is only getting now) and the Eagle would have a much more updated radar and even longer range, better AMRAAMS of the C or C-5 model. If I may be honest, if you want a Flanker than can honestly overcome an BASELINE Eagle in the BVR realm, you'd need a SU-27SM. Otherwise, the Flanker is better in some realms of WVR/BFM, but it simply cannot match in BVR.

Little problem without some Tomcats
ViperEagle replied to Corsair7662's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
CWIS is largely being replaced these days. What was more likely is that the radars were tracking the target, but it was determined to be non-hostile. My guess is that if it had been indeed dangerous it would have been eating missiles from the destroyers and cruisers before it was even within visual. IF it had gotten to the point where it did, and it was dangerous, the Rolling Airframe Missile launchers and CWIS would have been all over it like stink on s*** -
It was only some incredibly hateful, vicious and completely disgusting BS I have seen in a long time.

I think it may be the GPS antenna. A similar "bump" can be found in the F-14 B and D's dorsal spine.

Firstly, Thank you! I'm sure it was no small task to do this. For a Beta, it's great. Honestly, once the issues are fixed, it will look stunning, absolutely stunning. I'll be following it's progress closely, and when she's fully ready, she'll be on my HD for sure. THANK YOU

Yep.. And thats why the F-15 has been getting better and better and better, and the AMRAAMS are becoming the silver-bullet-of-death like they are in reality. At this rate, the F-15 might become too powerful! :smartass: And thats why the next Add-on is actually about the Apache! :smilewink: Folks..really, if the Flanker doesnt carry the R-77, then it doesnt. The Flanker can almost always turn better than the Eagle, can carry more weapons and fuel, has a better gun and has a helmet mounted sight qued to the R-73, in my opinion, more than makes up for the lack of ARH Missiles.

I have to disagree that the Su-27 will "always" beat an Eagle in a turning and burning fight. If you have a careful hand at manipulating the throttle and joystick, keep your speed between 350 and 550/600 knots, you CAN outturn a Flanker in a WVR/BFM angles fight. NOTE: I did not say it was Easy, and it'll take a while, but you'll find that the Flanker can be on your nose more than not in those conditions. It's all about energy management. Fight low and slow and you're dead. I made a recent post explaining the strengths and weaknesses of each aircraft, however, I will say one thing. The Su-27 isnt a perfect aircraft, it has the same laws applied to it as the Eagle does, and it can be beaten in a turning fight. When you take two aircraft of fairly similar abilities and two pilots of similar skill, it will come down to luck and circumstance as to who wins. A smart and careful F-15 pilot wouldnt let the Flanker survive past BVR anyway, but if this happened, the F-15 pilot also can beat a Flanker. The two aircraft arent as different as they seem. Their design histories are only off by a few years, and they also have very similar capabilities.

The F-15 Eagle vs SU-27 B Flanker Thread
ViperEagle replied to selu_99's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Disclaimer: I am an American who has a great deal of pride in the F-15C Eagle . I live near a Air National Guard training base, infact the only one, for Air National Guard F-15's and also it trains Active Duty F-15 pilots, so I see the F-15 ALOT. However, I also have a sweet spot of love for the Su-27 Flanker. I find it to be the equal and in some ways, superior to the F-15 Eagle. it's beautiful, just as the Eagle is, and it's powerful and dangerous. I'm very happy Mexico may be getting some, because then I wont have to travel half-way around the world to see a Su-27! That being said, I am going to make this analysis as unbiased and factual as I can. ======================================================= I've found that the 1.12A/B Eagle is so badly porked, I actually reverted to 1.02 just to get some semblance of sanity. In reality, both aircraft have pro's and cons, if we're talking about the IN GAME Aircraft..well... The Eagle has advantages over the Flanker IN (NOTE in 1.02 AND in 1.12 *sometimes*) The Trans-sonic, mid to high altitude fight (400-600 mph/ 20,000-35,000 feet) fight is the Eagles sweet zone. Thats where it's wings are optimized for, it's also where it is superior in several ways to the Flanker. If the Eagle can keep the Flanker in the BVR realm and is flying correctly, isnt down low or launching from 40 NM away, then the Eagle can win. And likely will. If the Eagle gets in a WVR/BFM fight, if the Eagle can keep his/her speed up between 350-500 knots, isnt loaded down by excess fuel such as tanks and full internal, and can keep the fight between 20,000-35,000 Feet, the Eagle CAN and DOES have a slight advantage over the Flanker in sustained turn rate, acceleration and stability, and can gun the flanker down in those conditions. The Eagle has a MUCH more " point and click" radar. The Eagle can carry 8 Aim-120 AMRAAMS, giving it a "launch and leave" capability closer in. When the Eagle is loosing a turning fight, it can transition to the vertical quickly, and keep an advantage, even in a defensive engagement. When used properly, the Eagle can take on multiple opponents using the TWS Multi-Launch capability. The "work load" on the Eagle driver is much less than the Flankers, allowing the Eagle driver to concentrate more on the fight and less on manhandling the aircraft. Like it or not, the Eagle can SPAMRAAM and throw out 3 or 4 Amraams and take off, allowing them to go active and killl the flanker when it is out of range of the Eagle, since the Eagle has likely gone to Zone 5 burner and burned out of the Flankers sweet zone. However, the Flanker does have some advantages as well. It has longer internal legs, as much as a Eagle with a tank and full internals. It's heavier than the Eagle when it does this, but it can also maintain a fight with afterburner (reheat for our British gents) longer. It has a much more powerful gun. It's 30mm can take down an Eagle much more quickly with fewer hits than the Eagle can with it's 20mm. However it doesnt has as much ammo, so you better be a good shot, cause you dont have much spray time. But when it hits, it does massive damage. It can carry more Missiles as well. The Eagle can carry a maximum of 8 AAM's. The Flanker can carry 10 AAM's. This gives the Flanker a better "buffer zone". The Flanker can use more SARH missiles to force the Eagle on the defensive, and close in, when the Eagle is at low energy/defensive, and make a kill using heaters. However, the Eagle can also pop off an AMRAAM in "pitbull" and kill you close in, very easily. However, on the same note, it's possible that your R-27's have already killed the Eagle. It has superior low speed manuverability/low altitude manuvering characteristics, with a superior sustained/instantatious turn rate at LOW SPEEDS AND/OR LOW ALTITUDE. Down low and slow, it can eat Eagles for breakfeast, lunch and dinner. Up higher it is at a disadvantage between 20,000 and 40,000 feet, higher up or lower than 15,000 or so, it has a slight advantage. Keep that Eagle under 350 and below 15,000, and you can kill him. It has something that makes it LETHAL when the fight goes to the merge. It has a Helmet Cueing System combined with the R-73 AND it's HOBS manuverability, and that Eagle will have to work doubly hard to stay alive in a WVR/ BFM fight. The Eagle in LOMAC does NOT have this, therefore, it's a massive advantage in a turning and burning fight. (Note: Modern USAF/USANG F-15's do have the Aim-9X and Joint Helmet Cueing System with a more modern and capable HOBS capability, however, that is not modeled in LOMAC, tho with the Black Shark and SU-25T, it should now.) The Flanker is larger, and can absorb a little more damage than the Eagle and still fly and fight another day. While pretty, the Kobra is a pointless manuver in ACM. It leaves you with zero energy practically, and exposing a huge target for a Eagle to gun or throw a Sidewinder at you. Every time I've fought a Flanker and they do that, I've won. Keep it to airshow routines. CONCLUSION: When it comes down to it, Situational Awareness, Support, and most of all, the skill of the two respective pilots will determine who walks away, and who takes the Silk let-down. I personally fly F-15's mostly, however, the moment you DO NOT RESPECT your opponent OR his aircraft, you're the one who's going to be eating that shell or missile because you got arrogant. NOTE: The discussion above was in regards to how LOMAC has made the aircraft. If you want me to compare the most modern varients of the Eagle and Su-27 (I am not including the Su-30 family or the Su-33's because the question was Flanker (Su-27) vs. Eagle), then I would say the F-15C with the AN/APG 63 V3(AESA radar) , Aim-120D and Aim-9X is in a slightly better position than the Su-27SM -
A week ! Cannot wait!

Sorry for kicking a hornets nest  In reality, I would be extremely happy with detailed actuator rods, some turbine spinning detail and perhaps some other smaller improvements. Of course, what I would really love is an Active Flight Model like the 25T. But, I'm not going to be ingrateful. Thank you so much for making an updated F-15 model!
-
I'm new here, but I want to thank you for your work. I'm syre the model will look great once it's finished, it already looks great. Question: In what detail are the engine nozzles rendered/created? because the actual P&W F100's have very intricate actuator rods and detailing. Is thise nozzle closer to that, or closer to the baseline F-15 from LO/FC? A shame we cant edit the actual preformance properties to give us the Updated MSIP-II aircraft with the uprated P&W F100-P220's, the AN/APG-63 (V)1 or V2 radar, or even the V3 radars that about 178 active duty Eagles are going to be getting. Trust me, a F-15C MSIP-II P&W F100-P220/Aim-9X/Aim-120C-5(orD)/JHMCS/ AN/APG-63V1(or2) would be an absolute beastly killer in the game. Like Comparing a F-16A to a F-16C Blk.52

Skins have been done of these two squadrons, but I think perhaps they could use an upgrade. 173rd FW, 114th TFTS "The Eagle Beavers"- Klamath Falls "Oregon ANG" 142nd FW 123rd FS "The Redhaws" Oregon ANG The links to the older version of these skins can be found here: http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=70&min=20&orderby=titleA&show=20#cat
