  1. Problem solved !!! Thanks Crazyeddie. I had actually done what you suggested but on reading your entry again I suddenly had a feeling I had missed something and sure enough I had forgotten to put the comma on the end of the entry. Thanks matey. Skatezilla cancel my last request old chap. Thanks anyway for all your efforts and, above all, for your template. I'll have to reupload my skins again now....
  2. Sorry to add to your woes SkateZilla but I have placed the empty.dds in folder and line in lua and it wiped out my entire livery in game but left the default in-game korea scheme and the new markings? Also in the model viewer I can see my livery but its now only just visible beneath the orange skin. It is obviously being obscured by the decal layer. Its a bit of a kick in the knickers but not unexpected with an ongoing beta release. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. To all those that have downloaded my latest skins with the included generic Squadron livery from www.lockonfiles.com: I have realised that I may made an error in the "description" file for the Basic squadron livery. (This applies to the included Basic livery file ONLY!!) If you find the sim is not applying the default numbers to your wingmen then open the included Basic Squadron livery folder, then open the "description" file (notepad works fine) and delete sections 3, 4, and 5. This is what you are deleting ("(LIVERY NAME)" is used as example only): {"F86_BORT NUMBER_01", 3,"f-86f_bort_number", false}, {"F86_BORT NUMBER_10", 3,"f-86f_bort_number", false}, {"F86_BORT NUMBER_100", 3,"f-86f_bort_number", false}, {"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_01", 3, "f-86f_bort_number_tail", false}, {"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_10", 3, "f-86f_bort_number_tail", false}, {"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_100", 3, "f-86f_bort_number_tail", false}, {"F86_BORT NUMBER_01", 0,"(LIVERY NAME)", false}, {"F86_BORT NUMBER_10", 0,"(LIVERY NAME)", false}, {"F86_BORT NUMBER_100", 0,"(LIVERY NAME)", false}, {"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_01", 0,"(LIVERY NAME)", false}, {"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_10", 0,"(LIVERY NAME)", false}, {"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_100", 0,"(LIVERY NAME)", false}, Then close the file, it will ask you if you wish to save changes, click yes. That should now allow the default numbers to be applied by the sim. To emphasize again this applies to the included BASIC Squadron livery ONLY. The same files uploaded to "DCS User Files" now have the corrected "description" file in them as I had already uploaded to the first site when I realised my mistake. Apologies for my carelessness but old age is a terrible thing. 4. Very impressed with those German skins! Just to update those that have downloaded my "Mig Mad Marine", "The Huff", Beauteous Butch II" and "Jabara's Sabre" I have now uploaded new versions of them at DSC User files and http://www.lockonfiles.com. They are based on my latest template and feature several modifications. I have included re-skinned drop tanks and due to several requests they now include a generic livery for your wingmen. I intend to leave them alone now and move onto other Sabres.
  5. Hello there "FivebyFive". Of course I have no problems with what you want to release. It appears we both arrived at the shark mouthed 51st skins together. I had little problem with the mouth as I had just done "Beauteous Butch II" prior to it so had learned the layout. It was the stripe sections that caused me to nearly lose the plot!!! With regards to the spec layer? You essentially create your own for each skin and then guide the game to it all through the .lua (Description file),but then you probably know all this from your WarThunder skins? My experience was in "IL2:46" and there was no spec layer so this has been a learning experience for me. Here's a link to the forum article that I used to learn the procedure. VERY useful. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=88855 the tutorial is the 4th entry down. The "model viewer" is another invaluable tool if you haven't already discovered it. I think its an absolutely brilliant piece of kit. When you refer to my "Template" I assume you mean the skins I have uploaded? I haven't released a template as yet. I'm waiting on the official one to arrive. Feel free to use my skin as a guide for the tail checks. As you will see there is a "dead zone" that separates the rudder from the tail so the checks need to be tailored to it. Not sure which I'm doing next. I have had a couple of requests which I'm considering at the moment. Feel free to PM me for any help/info. Bo
  6. Okay I'm back. I've been a little preoccupied with my latest release "HELL-ER BUST X". I thought the biggest challenge would be to get the shark? Tiger? mouth to align. Boy was I wrong! That was relatively simple! Getting the stripes to align over the canopy frame? Now that was an absolute b*****d! NMF has been tinkered with again and I have to say I think it looks relatively okay now, but I am not going to say I'm leaving it at that because we all now I can't back that up! Anyway it is going to be up before tomorrow at http://www.lockonfiles.com and DCS used files. I am also hoping to re-upload my previous release with the new NMF before Monday. I also would like to welcome "FiveByFive" who is submitting some nice stuff......even if he did beat me to the Shark? Tiger mouth!!! (Which is it by the way, anyone know....I want to say Tiger).
  7. with regards to my last release: "Beauteous Butch II" , I have since discovered that the name "Betty" should be painted on the starboard gun access panel. I will be updating this and my other releases. It may also have the blue intake marking enlarged slightly, it depends how brave I feel. "Mig Mad Marine", "The Huff" and "Jabara's Sabre" will all be released with my latest Natural metal finish as well as a custom Spec .dds for each. "The Huff" will also get red nose gear forward covers added, which is another detail I had missed ( thanks Basco1). I am also working on drop tank and pylons for each. If anyone has a particular kite they would like to see then let me know and I will see what I can do........no promises mind.
  8. Well after the build up Basco1 gave me I had to at least try! So heres the result. The intake marking was a pain due to warping and alignment issues so its isn't perfect but I think its pretty close. Should be up soon in the usual places.......with corrected readme file!
  9. Ooops! It looks as if I'm the culprit. Its a fair cop.Just checked my readme file and seen the error. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. That's what happens when you stay up to 3am working on on a skin before typing the readme.
  10. Tinkered a bit more with the Nm finish and I think I realy WILL leave it alone now...also spent some time today learning how to create custom SPEC .dds layers as I was unhappy with the way it made the ID bands look metallic gold rather than yellow. I think its sorted now. As I say its all an interesting learning experience. I may have to re-release my first three attempts soon with the fixes applied.
  11. "Genius" may be overstating a bit but thanks. If memory serves this was one of McConnells Sabres? It's on my to do list so I'll see what I can do. With regards to potential changes in the Sabre model? As has been said I think we are all aware of the potential pitfalls but it is serving as a good learning experience for creating liveries for DCS which differs considerably from my experience in skinning for "IL2:46". Plus it passes the time creatively.
  12. Thanks. Yes the lights are on. Its because the nav light switch is mapped to a switch on my throttle not the key board and my HOTAS setup is not connected at the moment. I spend more time skinning than flying when I get the bug.:smilewink:
  13. Uploaded now to lockonfiles.com and DCS User files (Latter seems to take a lot longer to make them available for some reason). I rechecked and rechecked my sources Strut and the wing insignia appears correct. But I welcome a second opinion as others catch mistakes I may have overlooked. I'm now starting on the next one. I think I will leave the NM finish alone for now.
  14. About to release John Glenn's "Mig Mad Marine". Tinkered about with the NM finish as I thought my previous attempt was too blue. Airbrake's interiors are now green and the fuel dump pipe is now red. Thanks to Basco1 for research assistance and Upuaut for help with the template. Hope to have this up at LockOn files and DCS User Files tomorrow.
  15. Thanks guys. I always welcome constructive criticism Basco1, its the only way you learn. The dash should have been done prior to releasing it, I had seen it but forgot. that will be fixed. The red pipe is on my to do list too. Thanks for the info Upuaut, Like your tulip nosed F-86's. (JG2?) Very cool.
  16. main_spec layer problem A little help please? I'm trying to use the main_spec layer but it leaves a vacant rectangle over the areas that would have contained the default serials/bort numbers. I have created liveries without this layer without issue I would just like to use this layer as it gives a nice gloss to the finish. I have examined the .dds hoping there would be an easy fix but to no avail. any ideas anyone?
  17. The Huff uploaded Okay chaps I've uploaded "The Huff" to LockOn files and it should be up soon at DCS User Files downloads.
  18. "The Huff" any interest? Thanks to SkateZilla's template and empty.dds I have now completed one of the most famous F-86's "The Huff". Not uploaded as yet, probably tomorrow. I have made a number of alterations to the stripes most notably increasing the width of the wing ID stripes which were far too narrow. The check tail was an interesting learning experience. Anyway let me know if you are interested in it.
  19. To paraphrase Troy McClure, some of you may remember me from such sims as "IL2:46". I originally posted about this on the screenshots thread and got some positive feedback so I have uploaded this skin (including a generic 4thFIW skin) at DCS User files section (not up yet) and it is available for download from http://www.LockOnfiles.com Its far from perfect as we really need the layered template but I decided to work with what was available.
  20. Thanks chaps. I will examine the link you kindly provided Sabre-TLA, thanks for that. I have now removed the stenciling from beneath the first row of victory markings and repositioned them slightly. I have just submitted the files to the User Files section of DCS so hopefully they will be up soon. The zip file contains both the Jabara and the generic 4th FIW liveries.
  21. While we're waiting for the proper layered template for the superb Sabre to be released I thought I'd have a tentative stab (no pun intended) at skinning in DCS which I have not tried before. (All my experience is in IL2:46 and a little FSX). This is a bit different in as much as the LUA file is concerned. So at the moment its baby steps. I have resized the star and bar markings as the "arms" were too long and the colours rather too bright, the wing insignia too small also. I have also applied the USAF legend to the upper starboard and lower port wings. I have changed the 24 serial prefix font to the correct style and tinkered about with the metal colour as best I can on a none layered template. (Still far from happy and await the EDGE update eagerly). As I said, "baby steps". But to start I thought I would do Major James Jabara's Sabre, as its in the "Mig Sweep" mission. The serial is not correct as I have yet to work out how to disable in-game BORT numbers (any advice welcomed on that point). I have also done a generic 4th FIW version without the Jabara name and kill markings to make up the rest of the flight. If there's any interest I will post them in the user files section and probably at Lock On Files too.
  22. I'd definitely buy it as long as the Phantom was there (B/C/D/J models preferably), ...make the GIB AI...with Yankee and Dixie station carriers....oh and the Skyhawk of course...not to mention the Skyraider....and the........well, you get the idea.
  23. Personally speaking, one of the flaws in the DCS system of aircraft releases (and I have all of them) is that whilst it is very nice to have such authentically detailed aircraft to fly, some of them have nowhere relevant to fly in. I refer to the Huey, P-51D (plus forthcoming 190D9) and now the excellent F-86 Sabre. It seems to me that with the release of the Sabre along with the P-51D and the AI Mig 15 that there is a serious argument building for the development of a 1950's Korean War add on, a 21st century, DCS quality, reboot of the old "Mig Alley" sim if you will. New terrain would be needed obviously, alongside new ground vehicles and infantry. AI IL2's and B-29s would be nice also. If successful then the scope for the release of other flyable aircraft of the period such as the Panther, Skyraider, Invader etc would appear to be considerable. It would be nice to have a committed "Flaming Cliffs" type of structure for them rather than just get "all dressed up with nowhere to go". So how about it? Pleeeease? (I've enclosed a "fiver", mums the word! :music_whistling:)
  24. I had the fuel tank waiting for the F-15 to install. Both work now and look very nice indeed. I'll get the missiles next. Amazing to think this is a mod made by someone at home! Top marks Mr Walmis Sir! Thanks guys.
  25. Thats the ticket! Thanks awfully old chap!
