I made a simple carrier landing mission: i start in the air, carrier is oriented at 316 deg, so the runway is oriented at 307 deg and if we consider the 5 deg magnetic deviation, it means i have to intercept the 302 deg radial to line-up for landing. The wind speed is 0, the carrier is static. Here are 2 images i took when pausing the simulation at 2.4 NM from the carrier (one image from the cockpit and one from external view, taken at the same moment in time); as you can see, the ILS is centered and the carrier is straight ahead, so i am perfectly lined-up, but the indicated heading in the cockpit is 290 and the one in the external view is 307 deg, so there is a 17deg difference and also the TACAN points around 15 deg to the right while the carrier is straight ahead.

Texture mod for Caucasus 2.5 terrain
Alex Voicu replied to Starway's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I love the different look and detailing of these textures, but at least with my current graphics settings some of the colors used seem a bit off. Others may feel differently though, but here's a list of the things i noticed: For summer textures: - there's too much of a blueish shade in the green color of the grass, fields and trees - trees are too dark in general For autumn textures: - trees are too orange/red, contrasting with the grass color - i really like the fields colors and detailing I attached 2 images to show my issues with tree colors. Anyway, this is great work, thanks a lot Starway ! -

32" monitor recommendations
Alex Voicu replied to doveman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I had a GTX 1060, recently changed to RTX 2070 and i didn't see any tearing or weird artifacts that Freesync is supposed to eliminate. Anyway, Freesync will only work with AMD graphic cards, so the monitor refresh rate will not be synchronized with the framerate but i doubt i would be able to tell the difference. -

I bought this one in november last year, and i'm very happy with it. It's quite cheap compared to equivalent top brands monitor but it performs quite well. https://eu.aoc.com/en/gaming/products/ag322qcx -
For the F14 i find it way too easy. I don't own the Hornet and i've never done any carrier landings in DCS before, i had no idea about the recommended airspeed or AOA or how to call the ball, and i succesfully landed on my second attempt. I only missed the wires on my first attempt because i am used to flare before touchdown.

The first set of TFRP pedals i bought lasted only about 3 months, after that i had some bad spikes from the potentiometer, magnetic sensor or whatever they use. Other users had the same experience and the replacements they received didn't have this problem, so maybe they had some bad production batches in the beginning. I bought a second set a couple of months ago as a temporary solution until i save the money for TPR, and it seems to be going well, no signs of wear on the sensor so far (fingers crossed). You will need to grease the rails on the TFRP pedals with Nyogel or other damping grease and maybe loose the screws a little, otherwise you may experience stiction problems.

[MiG-21 BiS] Green Cockpit
Alex Voicu replied to Mainstay's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
So this works with the current DCS version? I was waiting for this for a long time, thanks a lot ! -
I love it, looking forward to downloading this mod !

It's a nice Warthog model, but some of the details like the panel lines or rivets are far from competition level.

Taxi & Landing lights illuminating cockpit

I'm really happy with the latest update, quite a few problems were fixed. Thanks a lot Rudel and the other devs for your work ! I hope the PRMG will also be fixed soon. -
MiG-21 used to be my favorite ride... can't stand it now
Alex Voicu replied to streakeagle's topic in MiG-21Bis
I can't fly the Mig-21 in open beta 2.5.2 either, there are just too many problems with it. The landing lights are visible in the cockpit, the night lighting casts some weird shades on the inside of the windscreen, the PRMG is still not working, etc. Regarding the graphics, i think the cockpit looked much better in 2.5.0, before the major overhaul. If you look at the 2 screenshots below, you can see that many fine details are lost in open beta 2.5.2. Everything, from the instruments, to the switches on the radar control panel, to the radar warning receiver and the weathering on the instruments panel looks blurred in 2.5.2. I was told these changes have something to do with the new lighting system implemented by ED, but i have no idea if this will be fixed in the future. You may want to view the images in full screen to better judge the changes from 2.5.0 to 2.5.2: -

Windscreen reflections and optical sight purple tint
Alex Voicu replied to Alex Voicu's topic in 3D Model and Cockpit
I think there's a large difference between these images and the screenshots in my previous posts. In your images there are some reflections but they only cover relatively small areas of the windscreen. I don't see any fog caused by reflections that covers the whole windscreen side panels. The same goes for the optical sight; even if there's a slightly darker tint on the glass plate, the visibility through it is still crystal clear in real life. Obviously you can't say the same if you look at the in-game screenshots. -
Windscreen reflections and optical sight purple tint
Alex Voicu replied to Alex Voicu's topic in 3D Model and Cockpit
In addition to the poor visibility through the windscreen side panels (described above) more problems are caused by the changes to the optical sight. In the stable release (2.5.0) the visibility was still manageable because at least i was able to see through the central panel, but now in the open beta (2.5.2) we also have the purple tint on the optical sight, which also makes the visibility worse. It's not the color that is bothering me, but the fact that the glass panel becomes less transparent. To add to that, we also have the lens rim reflecting in the glass panel regardless of the lighting conditions, which i also find distracting. If you look at the screenshot below, it is hard to believe anyone would be able to spot a small target on the ground when looking through the optical sight. -
Windscreen reflections and optical sight purple tint
Alex Voicu replied to Alex Voicu's topic in 3D Model and Cockpit
Well it doesn't help much if the improvement is only visible in direct sunlight and not visible in all the other angles. What i'm trying to say is that the windscreen reflections are more or less visible all the time and they seem to cover the entire windscreen panels in a light fog. This makes the glass panels semi-opaque and the visibility is very poor, as you can see in the screenshots below. The canopy doesn't seem to be affected by reflections and the visibility is quite good when looking 90 deg left and right. When banking left and right one of the windscreen panels becomes almost opaque and you can barely see anything through it. -

Unfortunately in the latest patch there's no significant change for me either. I tested it in both Persian gulf and Caucasus maps and my results are similar to your screenshots. There's a very small improvement for the optical sight, but the purple tint is still very strong. Not much has changed in the windscreen side panels reflections. -
I love the Mig-21 module but i have some problems with the visibility from the cockpit. As you can see in the screenshot below, the reflections on the windscreen side panels and the purple tint on the optical sight are very strong and it's difficult to see the details on the ground. Most of the time i have only 1 windscreen panel with good visibility, for the other 2 panels all the details in front are lost in a purple or blue haze. Is it possible to tone down these visual effects?

I have the same problem in Open Beta 2.5.2 (PRMG dead) when trying to land at Krasnodar Central (channel 3) in bad weather. I have flown the exact same mission many times in Release version 2.5.0 and it worked perfectly, so something is broken for sure.

[REPORTED]Mig-21Bis Crash in 2.5.2OB1
Alex Voicu replied to Rex854Warrior's topic in General Problems
Changing the cockpit language works (plane is flyable) but it doesn't solve all the problems when flying over the Caucasus map. As you can see in the screenshot below, there are some issues with the warning lights group textures (the ugly grey color was not there before). I don't know what went wrong but in general the colors in the cockpit are much worse than before. It almost looks like a poor conversion to 256 color textures, while the colors on the original cockpit were absolutely beautiful. The landing lights are somehow illuminating the floor area and it looks terrible. I hope all these problems will be fixed and not only the crash with Persian Gulf map. I did buy the PG map but now it looks like i have to revert back to the release version because i don't want to fly the Mig-21 with all these issues. -
I recently started playing with the mission editor and i created a simple mission for Bf109 K4. First of all i didn't like the deserted airfields on the Normandy map and i tried to create the atmosphere of an active Luftwaffe airfield using static objects and ground units. I know it's not exactly accurate but i did my best with the limited number of useful objects in the WW2 Assets Pack. There are some FPS drops when something explodes on the ground but it's not too bad and the missions is playable for me. If you have any suggestions for improving the mission or historical accuracy i would be happy to make some changes. You can find the mission description, mission file and some screenshots below. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "We received alarming reports about a large Spitfire formation crossing the channel at low level. Since Bazenville is the only active airfield in the area, it's very likely that our airfield is the target. Unfortunately most of our planes just returned from a combat mission so they are currently refueling and rearming. We only have 4 planes available so do your best to defend the airfield. Start your engine and go through your check-list as fast as you can. The windsock indicates a light breeze from NE so after starting the engine turn left and travel to the SW end of the runway. After take-off keep flying NE at low level and try to avoid being spotted by the enemy flight. The heavy Flak fire will distract their pilots and with a bit of luck you will be able slip under undetected. With the wingman protecting your 6 o'clock, chase the isolated enemy planes and shoot down as many as you can. Good luck !" ATTACK_BAZENVILLE_109K4.miz
