  1. By the time it comes out current top of the range hardware will be entry level so even if you do have to upgrade it will be very inexpensive.
  2. You can pick up an e4300 Intel CPU for 70 pounds and it will overclock to at LEAST 3ghz at the change of a setting in the bios, with a good motherboard and memory with a decent cooler you'll get it up to 3.4ghz no problems. That for me is the biggest reason to go with intel at the moment. I just hope AMD come back with a massive right hook to Intel with a blisteringly fast and highly clockable chip soon because competition in the CPU and GPU game is vital.
  3. Thanks, I had a sneaking suspicion that it was installed but those features were either removed or installed seperately. I can get back to blowing stuff up now instead of trying to get this pit to work when it's already working
  4. Heres my pit once I have installed this mod using modman, notice the pilots knees are different and the MFD isn't displaying any data. Is the Kneeboard and MDF data display seperate addons and the pit is actually installed or is it just not installing at all?
  5. I've been trying to install this A10 cockpit upgrade for a while now. I've tried LOman, modman, with CCDS without CCDS and it won't work no matter how I try to install it. I don't have any other cockpit mods installed apart from the High res HUD and the no scratches canopy. Im using Flaming cliffs 1.12a. Any advice would be much appreciated. http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=75&lid=208&ttitle=Realistic_A-10A_Cockpit_v2_1.02/FC#dldetails
  6. Heres the F4AF and Red Viper ones. http://rapidshare.com/files/30329474/lineup.rar
  7. Remember to turn Trueview off in your LOMAC TIR Profile so that you can use the Z zoom axis whilst looking away from centre.
  8. Not since the cheap C2D cores that OC like crazy hit the market, theres never been a better time to go Intel.
  9. Yes a XP3200 going to an X2 4400 would be a huge boost, just as good as going to an e4300. If you weren't going to overclock it wouldn't be worth your time, because the 4300 and the x2 4400 are similar performers at stock clocks. But I still believe you would get a very good increase in performance from an Overclocked 4300 @ 3ghz, that's a 70% increase over stock clocks of 1.8, granted, the x2 4400 stocks at 2.2 I think but theres no way you could get anywhere near that kind of OC with the x2 4400.
  10. If you can throw a PC together have a look at this for 600 squids. No monitor but you can pick one up for about another 100 on top of that. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/
  11. My settings are the same as yours apart from a resolution of 1280x720 when I run my projector and 1280x1024 when Im running my monitor and heat blur off (Fly mainly A10 and 25T so don't really need Heat blur), 4xAA and 8xAF, I haven't personally tweaked my visibility settings as I don't really know what I'm doing but I am using the medium visibility preset in Modman which tweaks it in favour of higher FPS if Im not mistaken. I notice you have a custom visibility setting, is it tweaked for A2A or A2G? I'm looking for a good A2G visiblity setting if you can give me any pointers on what settings to play around with? Other hardware consists of asrock dual vsta mobo, X1950 pro GPU and 1gb ddr400 memory, looking to upgrade to fast ddr2 memory and mobo soon to allow for more clocking of the 4300 as the asrock board is a bit of a stepping stone to get me up and running with C2D. I'm really enjoying LOMAC with this setup at the moment and it will only get better as hardware progresses and prices fall over the next year or so. Forgot to mention, reflections on, no mirrors, I'm a mud mover :D
  12. The e4300 at 3ghz will give you a huuuge boost over your current system. I was running an old xp3200 chip before my upgrade to a 4300 and I was getting a lot of low minimum FPS when there was a lot of action on screen. I got a 4300 and clocked it to 2.4ghz and the difference was immense, now I rarely dip below 30 unless Im over a heavily populated city or in a massive A2G battle and even then its not that bad that it ruins the immersion. Lockon Loves the CPU cycles :D
  13. I managed to fix the ANT ELEV by opening up the throttle grip and squeezing the pot casing and arms with a pair of pincer pliers thanks to cubs thread on CW, cheers polecat :) Man what a real piece of hardware this is, I love it. I'm no where near as good with it yet as I was with my X52 but thats probably because I'm not used to the button locations and I dont have a good profile made up yet. I spent a couple of hours last night getting into the Foxy programming software and I've got my head around it so I'll have some profiles made up soon.
  14. Heres another good one, it's all the ingame tutorials converted to divx and available to watch online. Superb http://bvr.jpn.org/lockon/training/FC_eng/index.html
  15. Ok, Grease was good, plenty of it and made sure it was all distributed around the gimbals nicely. Speed Brake housing is a little loose but nothing to really bitch about, dogfight housing feels good. Those throttle indents are a bit clunky though and Im thinking of greasing them down or removing them I've not decided which yet. Bad news, ANT ELEV is knackered, very intermittent with data transmission and no indent unless I pull the grey ant hat down. I could send it back to Amazon but chances are I could wait all that time and end up with another just like this one as it seems to be a common fault in newer cougars. Theres a simple fix for it on cougars world so I'll go to the diy store tomorrow and get a few bits n pieces for the cougar and I'll open it up and fix it myself. My wife thinks Im crazy for not sending it back and I suppose she's right, she also thinks Im crazy for talking to my computer and sticking infrared lights to my head too and I suppose shes bang on the money there as well  Apart from that it feels good, a LOT stiffer than my x52 but I'll get used to it, I only had a wee test flight in the 25T and I struggled a bit at first, especially with no twist rudder for lining up my landings and bombing runs but felt myself getting more precise after a wee while and only stopped to make up a profile for the 25t. I'll hook up the pedals from my DFP steering wheel in the meantime till I get a decent pair of rudders. All I need to do now is get my head around the Foxy software and get myself some profiles made up for myself. It's gonna be a bit of a learning curve over the next week and it will no doubt eat into my flying time but it should pay back in the end.
  16. Heres my newview 37 folder zipped up with a bunch of profiles inside it. http://rapidshare.com/files/27567506/NewView_37ss.rar
  17. Well that was quick. Opened the door this morning to be greeted by a delivery guy holding a rather large box, signed for it, opened it, huge big chunk a metal inside. I'm reading the guide again and preparing to flash it and check the gimbals for grease, then it'll be a quick bit of programming for a 25T profile then I'll take her for a spin... :pilotfly:
  18. Select the lockon profile in freelook or lockon/il2 mode in cam2pan.
  19. Cam2pan when used alongside Newview with an LED works very well. Cam2pan is $10 I think, newview is free, and you can get an LED for pennies from ebay. You can also use Freelook with Newview and it's free. I had problems with Freelook disabling my camera each time I used it so I ended up buying cam2pan and I'm pleased with it. The only major downside with cam2pan and freelook is that they are resource hungry and will most certainly have quite a large impact on performance in lomac unless you're running dual core. Here's how to configure Newview to run alongside cam2pan/freelook in Lomac. First up install cam2pan or freelook, then open up newview (config.exe) and register the DLL, it's the big "add DLL to registry button" :) once you have done that run LOMAC once then close it down again, this is done to add the lomac INI file to the newview folder so that it's available for configuration. Go back to the Newview folder and run the config.exe again, you should now see LOCK ON_1.INI or something similar below the open profile button. Ok now go to the helmet section, you'll see it up at the top of the Application, it's the 5th tab. Once in there you'll see lots of options, make sure the following 2 are selected "Enabled on startup" and "External interface (cam2pan etc..)" You can also select a deadzone and I would reccommend a minimum value of 4 for each box (standard and floating) a smoothing level of at least 15 to start of with and a medium response curve. These are just to get you started, once you're familiar with the program and it's at least working in LOMAC you can tweak it to your liking. Next go into the "buttons/assignments" tab and double click the centering option, it will expand and you want to click on the centre with return option, I set this to the same key that I use to centre view in lomac so that if I need to resync my view I just press that whilst looking forward. Next you want to look down till you see the helmet option, again double click to expand it and select "Helmet mode (Helmet/Hat)" assign a button to this, it's basically an on off swith to disable/enable it ingame. Next up you want to look up at the top of the application and click on the "additional settings" tab, then "miscellaneous" and make sure the "Direct keyboard scan(LOCK ON mode)" is selcted.... apply it all and you're good to go. Cam2pan set to flashlight mode, auto start, speed settings are personal but use 21% for horizontal and 25% vertical. Make sure you're webcam is set to it's lowest crappyest settings it can do so as to keep the framerate high on the camera. You can set this in cam2pan "settings/video format/" suggest I420 format and 160x120 resolution if available. Turn off auto exposure, set to black and white mode in cam2pan "settings/video source" Thats' all I can think of just now if I've missed anything I'll post it up later.
  20. Have any of you guys seen these http://www.headplay.com/ Due out at the end of the month, priced in at $400-/+
  21. Yea Blaze I'm confident that I'll be able to fix any problems that may arise without too much hassle, between this place and cougar world I'm in good hands. Regarding delivery, hopefully I'll be very busy next weekend!!! :D
  22. Thanks for all the info guys, and especially for that guide Polecat, I'll soak that up while I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver the stick. :)
  23. Ok the deed is done, I've spent more in the pub in one sitting so I don't even know why Im even giving it a second thought as the thing will never be outta my hands. Kuky, how much will the NXT mod set me back?
  24. Man it's so tempting, I've got 1 click shopping enabled in amazon and my finger is twitching everytime the mouse hovers near the buy now button :D
  25. I was wondering if there are many Cougar users here at the Lockon forums. I'm thinking of buying one and selling my Saitek X52 but Im not 100% sure it's a wise move as I've read about reliability issues with the stock cougar an'd I really can't see me shelling out 130 quid for the stick and another 200 to mod it. Any opinions?
