Where did the excitement go?
bramski replied to dodger42's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I won't be touching Vista until the benefits outweigh the potential problems. At the moment it's pointless for gamers to upgrade to Vista. I say stick it on Ebay. -
This is going to be a cracking sim, I just installed the original with all its community mods and its quite stunning in places, it looks like it just hit the shelves, so I'm excited to see what this new version will look like once after the EECH community get their hands on it. I just hope the new DX9 support isn't Gaffa taped onto the old engine and ends up running like a pig.

Have you tried Newview? It's a TrackIR emulator but it can also be used without a cam for smoothing out panning and setting up custom views. I've not used it myself for custom views but it dows work flawlessly as a head tracker with my cheapo webcam and cam2pan. http://www.mousevision.com/game/html/newView.htm

Yea I'll stick with my x52, it's a bit of a shame though as the msffp is still a nice stick and it's in pristine condition, MS just abandoned it when XP came out. Oh right, I thought the Forcefeedback=true in the producer.cfg enebled FFB, that will explain why I'm not getting any effects then :D I've managed to get the stick installed and it gives off FFB effects and resistance in FS9, but only if I unplug my X52 otherwise it's a 1fps slide show (known bug) and even at that theres no way to control the forces, it's full power all the way. I tried it with the helos in Armed assault and it felt quite good with the stiff resistance and self centering but there was no FFB effects as I don't think it's programmed into the game. I guess it's back in the box with the old MSFFP as it's been pretty much crippled by Microsofts abandonment.

How do you get the force feedback working in winxp for the msffp stick? I can get it to recognise and install the drivers but the software isn't supported in winxp so I can't get any effects in games, all I get is full resistance and self centering because I can't control any of the sticks settings other than basic calibration in the gamecontroller section in xp control panel. I don't think I'd give my x52 up for it but I'd be tempted to make a cyclic of it for BS.

Just a brief follow up, heres one just been released http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=D2E2CAE1-6AEF-4A40-BD00-F0FB2A71E99F&displaylang=en no reported performance gains from the users over at guru3d.com which I heard of the update, but they're testing on the latest games, lockon may still benefit from the update, who knows... I'm too scared to try it :D

Check this one out, it looks genuine but who knows... http://www.therawfeed.com/2006/09/vr-gear-makes-rc-airplane-coolest-toy.html

Have you tried using triple buffering?

My brother in law just gave me an enemy engaged disk but it's got Apache vs Havok on it, is this a different version? an add on or something? I havent tried it yet.

That was very nice. I wasn't expecting it to buzz him like that

Thanks for that little piece of info there mate, I've been trying to get my cam2pan/newview to work in 1.12a for a fortnight now. Worked in 1.1 no probs but not 1.12a and after reading that I tried it out and it worked a treat :) Now I can go online and actually look and see where the missiles are coming from as they smash me down, again and again and again :pilotfly:

I hope you got your FPS prob sorted out, but incase you didn't check out this hotfix from MS, I'm pretty sure your laptop will be loaded with power managment features which this patch deals with. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256 Also check out http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=65211 for an affinity program that can launch apps with the affinity preset.

I found it on the Newsgroups.

I think it's a characteristic of the su25. With all other a/c I can trim using my rotaries, with the 25/T I have to tap it in incrementally using a mapped command. What I did was edited my 25/T profile to use the thumb mouse on my x52 throttle for trimming. Set the mouse to bands in the editor, 3 bands on the x and y axes, 0-40%, 40-60%, 60-100% and map the trim commands to that for the 25/T. I also did the same so that when the pinkie button is held in I can slew my shkval cursor.

I've only just got into flight sims, Lomac inparticular. I'm quite interested in joining a squadron but I really wanted to spend a month or so getting to grips with the sim and the various aircraft. I've gone through all the tutorials in Lomac and all the ones on Ironhands flankertraining site and I'm almost at the point where I'm ready to go online. I installed hyperlobby, ubi.com, and Teamspeak, I've nearly finished profiling my x52 for the individual aircraft although it seems like there's always something else to tweak :) I guess all that's left to do now is take the plunge and go online.

Looking for best x52 profile with .jpg documentation.
bramski replied to OsageCowboy's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I just bought an x52 a few weeks back and I was initially on the lookout for profiles. But after downloading a few I found it a lot easier to get to grips with the controls by making my own profiles as you absorb the layout as your programing into the x52 software. -
Picked up another disk today. My brother in law was kind enough to donate his :)
-
I'll pop into town and grab it if it's available. I know it's not the drive as it's running other disks no problem, plus I tried to copy the disk to see if I could get past the bit where it sticks but it dies at 89% everytime. I tried a system restore and I got my old Lomac installation back but now it just gives me application errors when I try and run it. my pwn bloody fault, trust me to kill my instllation on the day I get my new flight stick. thanks for the help anyways
-
As suspected, it stopped at the exact same part of the installation with a cyclic redundancy error.
-
unfortunately no, but I've covered the scratch on the topside with some reflective paper and taped it on to see if it gets it installed, desperate measures indeed :D
-
Just inspected it to see if cleaning it would help but it's been scratched topside, the data side is totally smooth but the reflective bit on the top has been scratched :(

Hi, I recently uninstalled my lockon installation after messing about with various addons and botched my setup a little. I had been playing Flaming cliffs and the 1.02 before that never needed the disk so it's been away in the box for a while. I decided to reinstall fresh tonight and there was a dirty great scratch near the end of the disk and now I can't reinstall, I just get an error loading the Denmark.ogg file and it dumps the whole installation after. To make things worse I just went out and bought a nice new x52 which is sitting idle now until I work out what I can do. Any suggestions?
