  1. Correct me if I'm wrong but DSR has absolutely nothing with texture quality to do... it's effectively supersampling, basically anti-aliasing. Oh and this NVG mod may be the one mod that really makes me mouth water: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1652771#post1652771
  2. 2 degrees of twist could be considered normal... not 20. Only the black joystick is supposed to wiggle slightly, not the wheel below it or anything below the wheel.
  3. Not enough buttons sure... but do ANY other joysticks at that cheap cost have more buttons? Where I live all electronics have 1 year instant-exchange-warranty so if an axis broke I'd go have it exchanged in a day until I got on that works.
  4. In case you haven't heard: DCS 2.0 will come out November/December along with 5 or so new modules (Bf-109 K-4, Hawk, L-39C, L-39ZA, MiG-15bis) and about 2 new maps (Nevada Test and Training Range, Straits of Hormuz) so this winter is destined to be the time to play DCS. I'd say wait until the inevitable winter sale, stock up on as much as you can and enjoy the vanilla game until you mod it. Modding now is sort of meaningless since the new graphics update is only several weeks away. Also note that you should definitely have a solid HOTAS (cheapest: Saitek Cyborg F.L.Y. 5, most expensive: Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS) and pedals and head-tracking is also nice to have when playing DCS. Ideally you should have about $1000 of equipment. I mentioned the F.L.Y. 5 because it is both a joystick, with a dual throttle and has twist that can be used instead of pedals so it admirably gets you basically everything you really need at the cheapest cost available. As for computers building your own is the best an i5>i7, 8GB memory suffices, the strongest graphics card are exponentially more expensive and a silent computer beats a strong computer all days of the week when you’re only slow-surfing internet. Also if you abandon your dreams of overclocking (wasteful in my experience) you can save a lot of money on buying a cheap-ass motherboard, minimal or no cooling and in either case 400-500W is enough for a single card computer. Corsairs are bosses in mostly everything they do, ASUS/MSI both have the best motherboards and graphics cards and Western Digital/Samsung own HDD/SSDs. I saw you’re asking around in another thread.
  5. It happens. Always use your own judgement when making turns and if you notice you are drifting course correct by turning 5-9 degrees (>10°=U) off-course in the direction you want to go.
  6. I'm entirely unaware of your AI mod but generally yes, I would expect if you have 10 different aircraft going about with 10 different AIs the chance of unexpected behaviour would be greater than if all AI is handled by a consistent group: ED. So it may as well stay a mod/mods, not modules. Besides modules sound as something that would cost me money.
  7. My stick moves perfectly smoothly, the game detects it as moving perfectly smoothly and the cockpit stick moves perfectly smoothly. You've got a bug! Or your joystick is choppy.
  8. I can only see bad consequences of having AI modules... Why not just ask ED to improve the already existing AI and have us users not worry about having to buy and plug in a bunch of different AI modules so everyone end up with different enemy AI?
  9. Currently DCS only does not detect about 16 Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS commands if you plug and play which makes it impossible to use the commands in any other aircraft than the A-10C! While the commands work in the A-10C you will have to use some magic and work to make the commands operational in other aircraft which brings with it several quite unnecessary inconveniences. Since the HOTAS is supposed to be plug and play and DCS has evolved quite a bit since it was originally made I believe it would be excellent if ED made an effort to bring its compatibility with DCS up to date. Quite a lot of DCS players use the Warthog has I believe it would convenience everyone greatly and make extra software unnecessary if the game could be made to detect the commands! The commands are: Left Throttle Off Right Throttle Off Pinky Centre Speed Brake Centre Boat Centre China Hat Centre Left Engine Fuel Flow Override Right Engine Fuel Flow Override Left Engine Operate Normal Right Engine Operate Normal APU Off Autopilot Selector Altitude/Heading Radar Altimeter Disable Enhanced Attitude Control Off Flaps Manoeuvre (Autopilot disengage)* * Useless command. I don’t believe anyone will disagree having DCS detect the commands without extra software would be very convenient so the only question is how hard it would be for ED to do. In my experience control detection changes should be one of the easier things to do.
  10. Works except for the flaps because there are no "flaps up position", "flaps manoeuvre position" and "flaps down position" commands. Moving the flaps controls up/down only moves the flaps one step up/down. Still haven’t tested deliberate conflicts or other aircraft, may need time. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2222072#post2222072
  11. Edit: even better would be if you could modify DCS to natively detect the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS neutral switch positions such as EAC Off when you simplyplug and play so we could use such commands in any aircraft natively. Hi, ED. Can you please add three "flaps (set to) up/manoeuvre/down" commands? I don't believe I have to explain what I mean by this but I will explain it anyways and also explain why we need it in some detail: What do I mean? Currently only "flaps up" and "flaps down" commands are available in DCS so if you have a three-position switch that you wish to use to control your flaps you can only set it to move the flaps up one step or down one step at a time if you move it up or down with the middle position doing nothing which is clearly suboptimal. What I want is to be able to use the switch naturally: set it to up to move flaps to full up, set it to middle to move flaps to manoeuvre and set it to down to move flaps to full down. Why we need it... We don’t need it in the A-10C since the entire Warthog HOTAS works perfectly using plug and play however we do need it in all other aircraft (and the A-10C by extension). I've created a Warthog HOTAS profile that uses all 75 commands available on it and that doesn't skip a dozen neutral positions the way it does if you only plug and play. What this allows me to do is use all switch positions in all aircraft so for example I can use the EAC switch to set EAC to both on and off in the A-10A instead of only being able to set it to on which is very desirable. Using this profile I can perfectly emulate the A-10C vanilla controls: except for the flaps control. So: we need commands that allow us to use the flaps controls in a natural way and if we get this we will be able to use the flaps control naturally in all aircraft, which also is the final bit not working in my universal Warthog profile that is supposed to allow usage of all commands available with any aircraft without having to switch any profiles: as it should have worked out of the box. Also: centre position commands for the china hat and speed brake switches would be nice too since they’re non-existent though I’m currently not having any issues with the operation of them.
  12. I'm not sure how your system works but I've successfully created a desktop shortcut that starts DCS, TARGET and activates a universal profile that should work with any aircraft with one click. Basically 40 joystick and throttle commands are bound to DX-1-40 and 6 non-hold joystick commands (CMS, Disengage) and all throttle quadrant commands which of only two are hold (Ignite) are bound to keyboard key commands (LALT + RALT + Variable) which hopefully shouldn’t cause any crash issues that I’ve heard of and shouldn’t cause conflicts and I can still use the keyboard normally except there may be conflicts if I depress a throttle quadrant switch and a keyboard key simultaneously. After setting all of that up you only have to enter DCS and bind stuff however you want similar to plug and play except you will be able to use all 75 switch positions instead of only a dozen (neutral positions) less. So all I have to do now is bugtest it.
  13. I doubt they're being produced... hopefully they will create some similar stick of the same or another aircraft eventually and update the software while they're at it.
  14. Basically, how do I use all 75 buttons on my Warthog HOTAS in DCS? Using default DX it only seems you can use 40 so about 35 would have to be bound to keyboard keys meaning you wouldn't be able to use the actual keyboard keys without conflict... I can see many threads about this issue: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3593984/TARGET_vs_DirectX.html Any solution yet? It's a pissy issue.
  15. It’s easy to fly the A-10C with the Warthog HOTAS since it is plug and play. However when flying the A-10A I noticed how the EAC switch for example only executes an action when set to the up position and not also the down positions which degrades usability. It seems to me that the best thing would be if ED made it so the game automatically detects both on and off action on the HOTAS multi-position switches so we easily can use all switch positions with any aircraft. However the other obvious solution would be to very slowly bind all commands on the HOTAS to keyboard keys so the EAC switch up is bound to LALT+4 and down to LALT+5 which will turn it on/off in the A-10A… The issue then is that you would have to use separate profiles for every single aircraft. Maybe it would be easier to bind all HOTAS switches to something abstract such as binding the HOTAS EAC up to LCTRL+A and down to LCTRL+B, then bind LCTRL+A/LCTRL+B to the EAC functions in the A-10A and maybe something completely different in the UH-1H? Does anyone have a good set of profiles for all aircraft (though I’m probably going to have to spend a lot of time modifying them to suit my own tastes eventually) or does anyone have a universal profile as I described above where all HOTAS buttons and switches are bound to meaningless obscure keyboard commands so you can still use your keyboard as usual for example G for gears up/down at the same time as a HOTAS button is bound to LCTRL+G and also activates gears up/down in-game? If I understand correctly you have to start TARGET and activate a profile every time you want to use a profile, is that correct? Is there any way to have a profile automatically activate when you start your computer maybe? It would be very useful if you use an abstract universal profile at the very least.
  16. I think ED should hire a ton of new guys to create campaigns, missions and training missions for all currently available aircraft because the availability is quite sparse. We need manuals too. Overall it would be great if ED could upgrade the ATCs, ground crew, ground units and more general things like that too now that they're upgrading to DCS 2.0 and not only upgrade graphics. The No. 1 issue with DCS is how uninteresting the bundled missions often are and the second issue is everything DCS doesn't do. Everything DCS does do though, from runway to runway, is excellent. Everything on the ground except for start-up/shut-down is quite meh.
  17. Yes, I most often do. I'm certain that's not the issue with this mission though since QFE is 29.89 if I remember correctly which makes a difference of a couple dozen feet or so and I flew everything in between +500/-100 and still didn’t qualify. Oh and I skipped ahead and completed BFT. Epic ending! I’ve spent about 20 hours with BFT which of 4h30m was the campaign qualification so the campaign is certainly worth its $5. So now I'm going to start inching my way into AFT and play other aircraft too. :pilotfly:
  18. Campaign mission BFT10 contains a critical bug! Can't be won. Between Waypoint 2 and 3 after you get in the air you are expected to maintain 6000 ft but after a moment the instructor says "Maintain 6000 ft!" and then terminates the mission claiming you exceeded the Q- criteria even if your altitude is 6000 ft, 6010 ft or 6100 ft... Stand-alone mission works. In BFT09 I have also detected an issue where if you do not actually cross the extended runway during final approach you will not be allowed to descend so if you are coming in at an angle slightly north of it you will be failed as you descend. All you have to do though is increase the width of the final approach detection zone. All players have to do is make sure they overshoot the final approach slightly but if you don’t know that you’re in for something of a surprise as you attempt to descend. Edit: attempted increasing or decreasing altitude slightly in BFT10 and I'm still terminated every single time. Here's the track where I get Q- at 6100 in the middle of WP2 and WP3 after he says "You can use any navaids..." http://www.filedropper.com/bft10q- Track is about 15-20 minutes I think and plays at x8 until I'm approaching 6000 ft.
  19. Oh, that's where I did park though. Maybe there's a scripting error in the non-campaign mission. If you're going to move this campaign to the NTTR is that going to cost anything? I also suggest you still make the missions playable in Georgia since NTTR is going to cost some money, I think, so maybe not everyone will buy it. I’m definitely going to. Edit: In BFT02 the shut-down zone should be expanded slightly as this wasn't close enough to qualify and I had to start-up again, spin around a bit closer, shut-down aaand got a Q- because I had 0 seconds to shut-down. I usually park in the octagons which works in the other missions I've played... Edit2: In BFT09 I got terminate terminate terminate for not maintaining pattern altitude even though the height indicator arrow thing was dropping and I was only about 5 nm from the runway... dang... I think I've been terminated in some mission because of the instructor insisting on me maintaining pattern altitude before too.
  20. Anyone got No. 2 there in higher resolution?
  21. Wait for winter... maybe then we'll see Mig21bis and Hawk sales... and everything else that may be out by then.
  22. I've been anticipating 2.0 in November ever since we first started hearing several modules coming then. It seems they've attempted to co-ordinate everything but it may not work out. Should be a good winter and new year for DCS though.
  23. The BFT09 non-campaign training mission doesn't have any initial message. In BFT12 I accidentally parked on the first revetment to the left instead of right d'oh
  24. In the BFT09 training mission you don't give any initial instructions at the beginning of the mission (should say "Climb to angels 7, 350 degrees at 260 knots"). And at the end of the BFT12 training mission at Kobuleti the instructor never says if you're qualified or not. Also several training missions start with somewhat strange flight configurations in my opinion: throttle master exterior lights switch centre, strobe off, IFF antenna/master mode dial aft/off, right MFCD not set to CDU and master arm/guns arm armed set to armed. Edit: and how do you spiral dive correctly?! I nose down 10 degrees then start banking 60 degrees which brings my nose up and I can maintain at most 5 degrees nose down! I can’t bank more (not allowed), less (levels me out), pitch up (levels me out), down (banking not allowed) and throttle up and down seems completely ineffective. In your video you somehow just do it but my aircraft doesn’t work that way. Are you pedalling down like a madman?
  25. Ahhh... cool. So for the spiral dive you basically have to: I guess maybe I'm turning too slowly and dropping too quickly. Very neat checks.
