  1. Not much. Its nowhere near what I'm looking for. Just going to have to wait for DCS and partners / third parties to start making real vehicle modules and infantry. DCS: Tunguska would be nice! Of course I think your going to have to come down some on your prices and/or start making group packs for a decent price if you really want to attract buyers.
  2. Yep, get out of my downed Ka-50 and pull an Igla out of the storage hatch. :)
  3. Wikipedia and all the arms documents online are your friends. That's where I learned everything I know. Not as much seems to be written in books these days. For ex. programming books. Try finding a book that explains the inner secrets of Windows. Good luck. They don't seem to exist. Most knowledge nowdays is online in white papers and internet guru forums. Same with small arms and self-propelled AA. :) Just search like crazy using google and favorite everything you find for later raking through.
  4. For FPS, we really don't need that big a place to play in. Look at the old mods of UT1 and Quake 3 that we used to play in. They were tiny, but fun. And sometimes, you really needed transport in, or backup from heli's and APC's. I'm not really talking cities. Small bases would be enough. And you could have those in the middle of nowhere. Look at Crysis 1's Mesa for instance. There's really not that much detail there (except for terrain ) and its kind of small, yet its a sizeable map for FPS play and even somewhat decent for vehicles. You could stick that out in the middle of a wasteland, and the sim pilots could fly as far and wide as they wanted to. That place just stuck somewhere out on the Black Sea map plains would be a good test start. We could even have tiny maps, like Infiltration's Chemical Threat, where you fast rope off of a Black Hawk, to take out a warehouse thats a terrorist base out in the middle of a forest like terrain. Some people could play helicopter pilots, and after dropping off the troops, try to support with machine guns and rockets. Of course, the defenders might have RPGs! Or even an old Shilka. :)
  5. Exactly. Pretty much what I've said in the past on these forums.
  6. Its DCS "World", not DCS Flight Simulator. If they keep it just flight sim for much longer, they'll probably go broke. Players these days are looking for ARMA. And with BIS screwing up on the newest one, its DCS perfect chance to lure some of those players over here, especially the old hardcore modders. Look at some of the Arma Steam posts, DCS has been mentioned a number of times as a great candidate for an Arma replacement. No ones saying lower the sim level, I LOVE their flight sim. I'd love to see it in vehicles and infantry as well. What were saying is, you need to start making everything else too. And third parties can do that. Even modders, if you put out some good modding tools. I know that people that fly jets only, probably don't care whats beneath them. But I'm mostly a heli and A-10 pilot. So yeah, I'm looking for realistic terrain, buildings, and ground troops. If you jet jockeys don't want that, just stick with the original map and you'll have all the FPS for just the sky.
  7. I think if your computer can run Arma 3 at a decent fps, it could do that. Arma 3 is FAR harder on my computer than DCS. That building looks less than or near the same as Arma 2 quality.
  8. So its just like Arma. Except we sink through rocks and balconies. :p
  9. Well, we Arma types aren't that happy with BIS right now, so were looking around. So far, DCS looks like the best candidate to carry on a future ARMA.
  10. Yeah, I consider Arma 2 to be the last Arma. Now its COD with the kitchen sink thrown in. Its more of a ridiculous Gary's Mod now. I think they're just trying to milk money out of a dead game before they completely ditch it. The poll's pretty interesting so far. Almost evenly split between all three categories. Lol, I knew the die hards would jump on first and vote for planes only. Can't blame them for that. But I think most people (mostly the newer people ) can agree that its time to move on and include at LEAST realistic vehicles. Hope to see that M1A2 SEP module come out one day. If not from Eagle, then a third party. Surely there must be some third parties that are interested in realistic vehicles. And there was someone talking about the "arma" type vehicles. No, just to make things clear, I'm talking about REALISTIC vehicles. i.e. DCS level modules. Like Steel Beasts level ( or better ). One thing ED should think about is all the more modules they would sell by bringing in inf / vehicles. There are far more die hard FPS players out there than there are flight fanatics. Arma 3, as bad as it is, still sold over 1 million copies. Of course, people were expecting a lot more from it. I think DCS could deliver what they are really wanting. DCS really is the best flight sim I have ever played. I'm sure they could do the same with the rest of their "world". And of course, if you put out decent modding tools, a lot terrain / building makers would be happy to populate that world with all kinds of towns, bases, castles, forests, etc. You guys really could be the next Arma, in a LOT better way.
  11. Well, I would think vehicles aren't as hard to model as aircraft ( less worries about the "FM" ). Of course, the cockpit work is about the same. And I don't think there's that much to rigging infantry models (much less than FM). Actually, if you will just put out mod tools, there are a lot of really experienced ( and "pissed off!" ) Arma modders who would probably do a lot of stuff for you for free. If you attract the Arma people, you'll get a lot of "hobby" modders. Some of their stuff goes way beyond what BI ever did. Especially missions. These people put a LOT of hours into their work. I would love to see what they could do with DCS. And as someone above said, vehicle / infantry work would probably be done by third parties.
  12. Yeah, the MAINSTREAM INVADERS who want the next COD and roleplaying wanted it. Only a handful of people play vanilla A3 now, and the ACE team has quit in frustration. So, no more good ACE mods. And that was the only large semi-realistic mod there was. BI now listens only to the COD / RPG / Zombie types. People that have been with them longer than me and have thousands of posts are being totally ignored in order to get the rich kiddies and their money in. I can see their business point, but just totally ignoring the people who supported them all these years (especially the modders!) is unacceptable. Its just obvious what their new direction is. Way too obvious.
  13. Lol, have you seen Arma 2? We aren't looking for the graphics of A3. ;)
  14. Hey guys. I'm coming from the Armaverse, and after 10 years of happiness, I ( and many, many others ) are splitting paths with BI. They are just no longer any kind of military simulator. Their latest DLC is "Karts". Yeah, Go-Karts. We Arma types have been rudely awakened to the fact that the game has its sights firmly set on being the next COD / Counter-Strike clone ( with Go-Karts and Goat simulators!). Complete with tiny DLC ( think Arma:M40 Rifle with Scope $15, $3 more for Crazy Kapitalist Mouse skin! ) and micro-transactions. If you guys are looking for more players, we're looking for a new engine. Hope to see vehicle and infantry simulation in your future. Edit: Combined Arms is just not what were looking for. And thanks for your opinions!
