$405? I pre-ordered from PCSuperStore and it was $493! -
I've read about that on a couple of games (namely Falcon), and I'm pretty much 90% sure that it's because some of the audio doesn't have a lot of low frequency content. I'm pretty audio savvy, so I'd have no problem editing the sounds and beefing them up. I did the same with Falcon a while back so that I could get a bit more rumble out of the engine (just on a regular subwoofer, not a ButtKicker).

Although I have my doubts about the true effectiveness of UAVs, I think that is outrageous logic. I'm sure glad you're not a military commander. "Why bother creating a safer and more productive battle plan? These men agreed to die for me, and I've got plenty more that will do so after them! Results by numbers!" If you think engaging in the pursuit of protecting lives (which possess skills and minds; far more difficult things to replace than machinery) is a "waste of money", then I pray you never have to go to war. Might as well get rid of military doctors too, huh? And search and rescue teams? Since everyone's life should apparently be viewed as completely expendable...
-
I was about to point that out, as well. WTF?

The flight model, or the damage model? I've never flown a real F-16 of course, or a military F-16 sim (have flown an A-10 one though!), but I've watched tons of F-16 HUD tapes and the flight behavior in Falcon really does seem extremely close. Of course the lack of workload in basic flying technique (due to fly-by-wire and the aid of the FLCS -- constant minor auto-trimming, automatic flap deployment depending on AoA, etc.) would feel different than anything less computerized, but based on my observations, that really IS the way the Viper flies.
-
Sorry to bump an old thread, but this looks really cool and I have a few questions. Firstly, will this work in FC2? Or just Black Shark? Secondly, is it possible to set up some of the feeds from http://www.liveatc.net to work in this mod? This could add some really cool immersion!

Hmm, well if all of the data is retrievable, that means with a bit of work, completely revamped cockpits for the current LO planes could possibly be created, right? :D I'm excited about the possibility of cockpits for new planes too, but equally excited about the possibility of brand new cockpits for the current LO planes.
-
Is it possible to use this "cockpit is hidden and another one is rendered over it" trick so that new, fully functional 3D pits for the regular LO planes could be made? For instance, since the HUD/MFDs/TEWS for the F-15 is already written into the game's code, could this trick be used so that users could create new pit models that are true 6DOF?

Oh, ok! In that case, I could definitely get a 650 watt Corsair for about the same price as a 750 watt Thermaltake. Would this be a smarter decision, since Corsair is higher quality? I'm hoping the 5770 should be alright for my needs. I'm mostly planning on playing Source engine (ie: the Half-Life 2 stuff) games, at 1440x900 of course. I think Fallout 3 and Just Cause 2 are pretty much the highest quality games I'll be playing, graphics wise.
-
Thanks guys, I'll definitely look into a quality brand, higher power PSU. I never realized they were so important, haha. So 800 watts is a reasonable amount? Is Thermaltake a decent brand? Corsairs sure are pricey. :( I don't plan to upgrade to a bigger monitor any time soon. I'm pretty happy with just my 19" one. If I'm running at 1440x900, do you guys think this GPU would be able to handle LO and some non-groundbreaking (graphics wise) FPS games pretty well? Since it's a low resolution by today's technology's standards, will I be getting good framerates? Also, is 6 GB of RAM adequate?
-
Hey guys, I'm getting a new system pretty soon. I love LO and would like to get some pretty decent performance out of it (LOFC2, and of course the DCS series, but I know that the requirements are all speculation at this moment), but I also play a lot of other FPS games too. Nothing super modern or demanding though (Just Cause 2 is about the most graphically enhanced game I plan on playing). How do these specs look? Anything I should change? -Intel® Core™ i7 950 Processor (4x 3.06GHz/8MB L3 Cache) -6 GB [2 GB X3] DDR3-1600 RAM -ATI Radeon HD 5770 - 1GB GPU -ASUS P6T SE Motherboard -600 Watt -- Standard PSU -1 TB HARD DRIVE -- 16M Cache, 7200 RPM, 3.0Gb/s -24X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive I'm probably going to do this through IBuyPower.com, since I'm not much of a builder and I've had a great experience with them with my last computer (5+ years ago). I'd like to keep everything under $1000 USD if possible (not counting the operating system). This current potential rig comes out to $950. I should also note that I'm not making films or looking for ultra-ridiculous graphics or anything like that. I run my games in 1440x900 and I'd like to have a smooth frame rate with moderately high settings (with a little bit of AA and AF). I don't require the best-of-the-best performance, triple monitors, or anything like that. Will this rig fit my needs?

Hey guys, I hope this type of post is allowed. If not, please delete it. I am selling a Gleim Private Pilot Kit. For those who don't know, this is basically a "at-home ground school course". I don't really have the money to pursue aviation so I'd like to get rid of it. The box has been sitting around for about a year, but everything in it is in new-condition. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=150330051336

Cougar Foxy vs. CH Conrol Manager
Markdude replied to RedTiger's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I just gave in and got a Cougar a few days ago and now I'm making a profile. I've got a quick question. Is the following possible? Let's say I have a time window of 1000ms for example. I want to program it so that if I press a button one time during that time window, it will execute command 'a' after the time has elapsed. If I press this button twice in this time window, it will execute command 'b' after the time elapsed. If I press this button three times in this time window, it will execute command 'c' after the time has elapsed. And so on and so forth. I was reading a thread on the logical programming part of Cougar World a few days ago and I thought I remembered seeing something like this, but the site is down right now. Anyone know how to do this? -
Anybody tried these? Wondering if it's worth the money. I'm looking to enhance my immersion, either by something like this or a bigger monitor. However, I'm on a budget and don't want to spend more than $500 and the biggest monitors I've been able to find are 22" and I'm not really sure if that's worth the dough since I have a 19" now. Anyone got any thoughts on the glasses or monitor suggestions?

I downloaded the CH software and programmed everything already. :joystick: I also made a really ghetto layout with an image I found on the web. Here is my LOMAC setup: And here is my RedViper setup: As you can see, I'm to keep as many of the commands the same or very similar on both sims. Right now, for LOMAC, I can't really think of anything to put on the hat that is used for Display Management in RedViper (toggling SOI, HSD distance, etc.), so some of those commands are blank. But that hat is actually going to be used for POV in both games until I get TrackIR. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Keep in mind I'm trying to keep the commands similar (ie: trying to avoid stuff like button A controls airbrake in one sim and controls jettison weapons in another sim). Also wondering what to do about the throttle hat used for radar gain/bar scan in RedViper. I've got it set up to change the radar azimuth scan in LOMAC, but I can't think of anything similar enough to radar gain in LOMAC since you don't need it for AA and the A-10 doesn't have a radar (I don't fly Russian planes). Any ideas are welcome. On the topic at hand, I've decided the labels aren't really a big deal, but once again, keeping all the commands the same in different games is a major plus. I'm also going to be purchasing a set of X-Keys to use as an upfront control panel: Hopefully with this, I'll barely ever have to use my keyboard at all. Obviously, some of these commands will be used in one sim but not another (ie: no 2nd engine commands in RedViper), but I think I've got most of my bases covered. The numbered ICP commands in the center are going to be directly mapped to the actual ICP commands in RedViper, but in LOMAC they will just be mapped to numbers so I can use this for radio and such (the COMM button is going to be mapped to bring up the radio command list). Meanwhile, there's some other numbered buttons on the right. For LOMAC, these buttons will be mapped to the respective function above the number (extra radar modes, dump fuel, single/pair bombs, salvo mode, etc). For RedViper, these will be used as regular numbers, once again for radio communication. Because of all the commands at my fingers here, I think I also won't need to use multiple modes on the Fighterstick and Throttle. Anyway, I'm pretty excited now and just wanted to share that. Any feedback is welcome. My list of stuff to buy: CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals, ButtKicker Gamer, TrackIR 4 I can't wait to have a pimped out flight sim rig. :pilotfly:

Cool, got it. Btw, is there any chance someone could upload their key command chart? I don't have Lock On installed on my laptop but I'd like to start mapping some things out. EDIT: Never mind, I found them in Kon's starter pack. Thanks!
-
I also had a quick question about the programming controls for CH. Is it possible to program a certain button so that the first time it is pressed it does a certain command, and then the second time it is pressed it does a different command? For instance, I would like to have a button pressed the first time designate a target, and undesignate it the next time I press it. Is that possible?
-
Hey, thanks for the reply. I actually found an image online kind of like that and I am already mapping out some controls, lol. The labels are pretty much for aesthetic purposes only. I am going to be purchasing a set of X-Keys soon which will have most of my non-HOTAS controls (engines, ICP, master modes, etc.), so I am going to be keeping my HOTAS controls pretty simple and relatively similar from game to game/ac-to-ac, so I don't think that it will be a problem. I'll have the controls memorized before too long anyway, so it's not really for reference, just to look cool basically. It also won't be intricately detailed labels, just simple stuff like "Trim" "TMS" "Airbrake" "Rdr Slew" etc.

By the way, I'm at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ (A-10 training base!) for a PDT (I'm in ROTC and this is basically an incentive trip to show us what the 'real' AF is like and how a base operates; it's basically a paid vacation and it kicks ass), and after doing tons of other cool stuff (like watching A-10's launch rockets and strafe targets at less than a mile away at the range, touring C-130's, C-17's, and HH-60's, and watching them test restored F-4s from the control tower), today we got some time in the A-10 simulators. Well, actually they have two sets. There are the full cockpit A-10A simulators with the 150 degree field of view, but they weren't available because some pilots were doing checkrides in them. But they have more simplified A-10C simulators that are designed basically just to teach the differences in weapon employment from the A to C model (active joystick, throttle, HUD, ICP, and MFD controls), and we got to spend some time in them. They were a ton of fun, and after using that sim's HOTAS and feeling the precision and tension, I am definitely spoiled and my X-52 just won't do any more. I don't expect the CH to be up to par with these sims obviously, but I think it's closer to what I'm looking for since the X-52 kind of feels like a toy. I'm also getting a KC-135 ride next Wednesday. :pilotfly:

Hey guys, I believe soon I am going to be upgrading to a CH Fighterstick and Pro Throttle, and to spiff up the look a little bit, I am thinking about getting a cheap label maker and labeling the buttons on the stick. I've been looking on Amazon but I really have no idea which one to use. So far, the smallest tape size I've come across is 3/8" in width, and I don't have any way to measure it on hand, but that seems like it might be a bit too big since some of the labels on the throttle controls will be pretty close together. I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a label maker that would suit this purpose. Basically, I would like one that can print very small and fine/neat labels, that either have white text on clear tape or white text on black tape. Any suggestions?

Is There a Dual Core Advantage?
Markdude replied to FA_Crazy-Canuck's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I wasn't aware you would have to change the motherboard. I thought that was only if you have to buy a new motherboard because the new CPU is a different kind of chipset. The processor I'm getting is the same kind of chipset (AM2) and I'd really like to avoid getting a new motherboard. Would I still have to? -
I think I recall that Eidos' JSF allowed you to do so.

I have a pretty newbish question about processors and I thought this might be a good place to ask it... I'm buying a new processor soon, and I was wondering, after I physically install it, am I going to have to reinstall my OS or anything like that?
