Various devs have said many times that the flight model is intertwined with the 3d cockpit and engine systems (3d models being the fastest/easiest?). I admit you know far, far more about software development than me, but what M3 says and what devs have been saying for a long time just seems to match up.
Looks like from their comments on the facebook announcement that it is real!
(Also, they say it's a step towards the corsair in development)

Yeah, there is still a part of me that thinks its an elaborate ruse.
In the video the cockpit looks kinda low res, the FM seeming strange, no announcement on the forums, their emblem, ect.
Not mine either, but it seems they are doing some sort of groundbreaking changes to the prop system and needed to have a test-bed for it. Maybe a small agile aerobatic plane met all the criteria and they thought "heck, why not make it public, we have to develop it anyway!"
I don't see why there's so much anger, think of the revenue generated by civ people coming to DCS. For me DCS is first and foremost about flying, i have come to love its attention to detail so much that i can't fly any other sim, it just doesn't feel right. Is it a combat simulator? Heck yeah! but that shouldn't get in the way of non combat aircraft getting a FM that is second to none.

They probably were planning to announce it today, but were having so much fun psychologically manipulating us that they decided to wait till sunday.
While it would seem strange to hype up an aerobatic biplane, I think it would be great fun and challenging.
P.S.
Not paid either, we should start a club! :megalol:
